I hate Hawthorn more than any club in the competition and by a long way. I dislike there supporters, in fact the only two times I have come close to belting someone at the footy was last year against Hawthorn when some low life got into the trident reserved area with his mates and got right on our faces and my brother who is a Hawthorn supporter after Jimmy ran across the mark.

The underlying issue I have with Hawthorn is that we the MFC are their Bi..hes, their whipping boys, they own us and have done for some time. We talk about '87, the '88 through the early 90's and especially over the past 9 years. 2004 they sucked winning 4 games beat us round 1, 2005 Hawthorn Sucked winning 5 matches, they beat us, 2006 one year we smashed them and this would be the last win over them, the loss round 1 2008 was smashing, they destroyed us and basically have done so every game since. 2011 we had them at half time to be absolutely smashed in the third quarter. This week if they decide to beat us by 120 points they will.

We move into Sunday, I will be their but unless our team can show some sort of fight It could be only for a very short time. The Biff is out of the game but we need to start something in the first quarter, all in just hopefully may fire us up and get them off there game. Hawthorn in 2008 played unsocial football, every chance they had to stick an elbow in your ribs and annoy the crap out of you the did, this is what we need to do. If it gets heated so be it a few fines, god knows our players haven't deserved their full match payments over the past 9 weeks anyway.

I heard Dermie talking about the Hawthorn/Essendon game I believe 2006 or 07, the frustration on the past players was the Hawthorn had become Esseondons Whipping boys, they still got beaten that game but the next they won and haven't lost to them since. It was the turning point for that young inexpereinced Group.

YOU GOTTA SUPPORT THE TEAM by George on the Outer

It was Jerry Seinfelds response to a question from Elaine what compels a seemingly normal human being to do something like that?

So what would compel a seemingly normal Melbourne supporter to turn up and watch what could only be described as a massacre in the making?

You guessed it:

Now I know this is meant to be a preview but we first look at the recent history.

Round 7, 2012

Melbourne 6.13 (49)

Hawthorn 15.25 (115)

Round 18, 2011

Melbourne 12.6 (78)

Hawthorn 20.12 (132)

Round 2, 2011

Melbourne 12.5 (77)

Hawthorn 16.26 (122)

Round 20, 2010

Melbourne 12.6 (78)

Hawthorn 15.9 (99)

Round 1, 2010

Melbourne 8.13 (61)

Hawthorn 17.15 (117)

Well theres nothing in that recent history which would inspire anyone the only common factor seems to be that Melbourne are only capable of 18 to 20 scoring shots on goal in the whole game!

Phew! I thought that Mark Neeld's presence caused us to stink but it seems that we have been consistently on the nose for a long time before that, and I didnt want to dredge too far back into the past against Hawthorn, lest I come up against a certain preliminary final match in the late 80s!

We do, of course, live with eternal hope. We could find someone in the side who has the same intestinal fortitude as Ben Watson in this clip:

Also note we would struggle to have ANY recent pictures on the walls at the club if we used the Patriots criteria.

And Watsons comment stuff like that doesnt take a whole lot of talent rings particularly with what is lacking at Melbourne today. Its all about effortits all the fans need, but they are being starved of any sort of hope until the players decide that they are prepared to put in

Hawthorn 15.25.115 defeated Melbourne 6.13.49 in Round 7, 2012 at the MCG

I still hate Vandenburg and Hawks for his/their weak, thug actions in the "line in the sand" game and that was against a team I also don't like.

Unfortunately I don't think much will change for us this weekend, even if we wanted to play unsocial footy we wouldn't get near them as we are to slow and their foot skills destroy us. It will all be frees and 50's for them. God I'm just thinking of how many Buddy will kick on the weekend, he has not had a huge game yet this year has he...

I'll be there with a bunch of Hawks mates hating it but showing some f ing support I guess.

I feel the same way... I have always liked that footy is one of the only games in the world where you can sit next to someone who goes for the opposition, to, from and at the stadium without an issue - but sometimes there will always be some drunken low life who has to ruin it.

If you want a bit of passion on the field put Davey and Tappy in. So far they have been the only players I have seen that if one of their team mates is getting pushed around they will stand up.

I could be really pedantic here and complain about the misuse of the term "whipping boy" but instead I'll just say that I agree 100% with the content of the post. There are a few teams out there that always smash us and it's getting old. Hawthorn, Carlton and North. Every bloody time they walk all over us. Time for the Demons to draw their "line in the sand" and go out and show the world that they are nobody's [censored]. It could never be better timed than this week, but I somehow don't think it's going to happen, and that just makes me sad.

As bad and I hate saying this I just hope Hawthorn beat us by a minimum of 80 points, I just want Neeld gone by Monday to end this madness at least for now. I don't want him coaching at the Pies game.

I hate Hawthorn with a passion and I always want the dees every week to have a red hot dip but I don't want them to take it easy on us because people feel sorry for us!

Neeld should just do the right thing and resign after this game so the club doesn't have to pay the guy out. He created a big part of this mess he should just do the club and himself a massive favour

I want to see us lose by 30, then by 20 the following week against the Pies. Then beat St Kilda and the Dogs.

I see Fitz named on an extended Bench. That's not quite a "He will play as a forward this week" is it?

I'll take a bench of Nicholson, Fitzpatrick, Strauss and Kent (em) thanks.

Surprised Magner is out. Thought he'd done ok and his hard body would have been useful against the Hawks.

Thats one pathetic interchange!

dropping Jetta and Gawn is dumb.

Keeping Sellars is worse .

FFS.

Jamar will be thrashed by Hale ,as in the past .

Mitchell will get 500 kicks

We are completely F&%ked.

Posted

How many players in that team would get a game in a top 8 Afl side??? One of the worst teams I have ever seen.maybe 8 players, 10 at absolute max!

Posted

Surely Jetta deserved another run ahead of Nicholson and Bail.

Disagree to an extent. Jetta has really not done much to prove his worth. Not that Nicholson really has, but he's quicker, better defensively and despite the fact he is not a very good user of the footy, at least he gets it.

In terms of Bail, I don't think he's even in the top 30 at our club, and that's really saying something. He's awful.

Posted

So Jamar remains and Gawn is out? Staggered by that if its the case.

Posted

Bwahahaha we just keep getting worse.....

Posted

Don't understand the logic of selecting Howe at CHF and then playing him as the spare man at full back for a large chunk of the game. If that's Neeld's way of stemming the flood of goals, by dropping players back, then he'll need the whole team crowded around Hawthorn's goal square.

I'm hoping Fitzy gets a shot in the fwd line and bags 3 goals. Think he deserves 5-6 games to see what he can offer. Has done well at Casey for a while now.

Posted

Dear Mark Neeld,

Each week I question you a little more.

This week you've managed to somehow drop Gawn, who is a glimmer of hope in the dark hole you've created.

This week, I officially declare you delusional.

Also James Magner sends his love.

Regards,

Jaded.

Magner out.... Next out should be Neeld, what a stupid omission.

Yep, NFI.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
