Suns chase Frawley

Looks like he is going to knuckle down for the rest of this year and next year. If we are showing signs of improvement, he will stay. If we are still terrible and a long as he is busting his nuts for the jumper, you can't have too many qualms with him if he wanted to look elsewhere.

Personally, I think we will be on the improve and he will sign in the middle of next year.

I wasn't only talking money, if he wants 4 or 5 years give it to him

why would we offer 5 years if the only thing he would want is on field success and we show nothing next year. We need to prove to players like Frawley that we will continue to improve and strive ourself up the ladder. Like they said on radio the CEO's and coaches would have drummed it into him that stick with us we are going places for the last 6 years and only to get zilch back. Look if we don't start improving and next year becomes another disaster then I don't blame frawley for leaving but atm we must continue to improve!

and f we are going to just let our players leave we are no chance of improving. we need to keep the core group of senior proven players and build around them, trade in one or two others and draft the best mids at our picks and it should turn reasonably quickly

'Chip" will stay, we are going to start moving up next year and he will realise that all the hard times were worth as will Watts. Don't know about Col Sylvia though, he's a bit older and might think he needs to go now.

offer him what he wants

and offer it now

Never a good idea.

Its a team sport and its never good to focus on one player.

To pay any player what they want will leave less for other required players.

It would be a road to failure and will make things worse if he is unable to play.

Also any player who wants to leave, should.

It much better to have players who actually wants to play for the MFC even if they have less skills.

I think he will stay if we show some improvement between now and his contract running out, backing the club to offer him a contract that reflects just how important he is to us.

We need to get our house in order before we start putting the hard word on players.

Lets give them a reason to stay not simply guilt them into it.

Indeed. PJ recently made a comment about players feeling as if they are wasting their careers being here and I'm sure Frawley is one of them. To that end I'm neither confident or unconfident that he will stay; it's a simple equation of if we get our act in to gear on and off field he'll stay, if we keep acting like a pack of incompetent mungbeans, he will go.

I agree, but it's not just that.

Instead of going to him and giving some spiel about how good he is and talk of the promise (and potential) of all these kids we have - tell him that we have changed things so that he can have an environment that will help him get the most out of himself professionally and personally.

When I hear MFC officials talking about the future by reeling off names I cringe - talk about the culture you want to have, the environment that will be in place, the goals you have set for your football department.

Thankfully, there has been less of that this year with Jackson as CEO and the fact that MFC officials are dropping like mid-tier actors in the movie Contagion.

I take it Frawley will be a restricted free agent next year as compared to an unrestricted free agent like Sylvia this year.

Is that right?

Out of interest, how was this? Were we trying to work our way into that mini draft?

We were keen. But moved on quickly once we realised that we would need to give up too much.

Dont think we were even close to a deal.

I believe that is correct Mr Burgundy.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
