I wouldn't be surprised if Nicholson is brought in to play as a small defender.

I think he gets a gig at the expense of Blease.

Hes has the best endurance in the club, so id get him out there.

Carlton will most likely bring Waite in next week, so we need to be able to cover two tall forwards. Thus both Frawley and McDonald stay in.

We will need to be able to cover their smalls, so it would be a good thing to bring in Strauss and/or Nicho to help out with that.

Dunn is also deserving of a start after some really good form in the 2's.

If we don't have Clark back they bring in Fitzpatrick, don't play Pedersen again.

Given the poor performance of the Carlton backline, it could well be worth playing Watts forward again, in particular because it clears a spot in the backline for Dunn.

Thus we have Ins:

Dunn, Strauss/Nicho, Clark/Fitz

Outs:

Pedo

Giving us an extended squad. Refinements to be made later on :P

Rohan Bail should be dropped for torching his teammates four times and missing shots at goal instead. Cost us massively, as all were at important stages of the match too....

Not a hope in the world. He runs in a team that won't, so it would be to the overall detriment of the team. Happy for him to get a kick in the ring gear for torching his team mates in front of goals, but you're kidding yourself if you reckon he will be dropped.

Strauss should definitely come in ahead of Nicholson to play as a small defender. Nicholson's form has been mediocre and shouldn't be rewarded over Strauss who has been dominant in the seconds.

If Viney is right, yep. As for Dawes will we give him a week and bring him in for the Gold Coast

If we play Clark before he is 198% fit I will go on a killing rampage. No more Clark heart attacks please.

No game frightens me more than a Carlton game. So many Carlton supporting friends, so little I can say when they thrash us. Again.

I'm actually happy that the upcoming game isn't covered in my membership.

Good excuse not to go and have to listen to by Carlton mates feel sorry for me as they whip our butts again.

what position would you play blease? Back to half back??

Dunn is actually pretty quick. But id have Strauss to yarran, terlich to garland and garland for betts. Dunn I'd play on a Mitch Robinson or resting midfielder. See if he can be the half back flanker who can intercept mark and help out talls that we really need.

Frawley to Rowe and sellar to hampson

I think your match ups are about right. Whether they work is another issue but it's about where they will start.

With Blease it's hard to tell from the TV but in games I've seen he gets too deep forward with nowhere to go, wing to HB maybe but....has he got the endurance level? no. I think he has a bit to offer but like the team is struggling.

Strauss is a positional player, he can play on a opponent & run off him to deliver. HBF

Nicho should come in, as a 'run with' outside player. not a defender. wing

Blease started well, until he copped that heavy knock - review will show it was high and I'm tipping that the Lions player will get a week.

That knocked the wind out of his sails.

Must stay in the team and play on the wing.

Viney, Dawes and Strauss to come in.

Cam P, Rodan and Davey to travel to Casey.

I have a good idea.

Play three 195cm slow, big men on Betts, Garlett & Yarran and tell them to stay nearby in their zones.

Should be an interesting experiment ... oh, wait.

When we actually had opportunities in the forward line yesterday there was no true forward to kick to until Watts went forward. If Clark and Dawes don't play, I'd play Watts in the forward line and drop Pederson.

I'd then bring Dunn in to take up Watts position in the backline.

Based on reports on recent Casey games, I'd also bring in Strauss and move Grimes back to the midfield and drop Rodan, I can't see what he's offering.

Finally, Davey should either play a full game (my preference) or go back to Casey. Two games as the sub is enough for any player. Blease, if he stays in the side, could be the sub.

A bit over the top but agree with the sentiment. He should have kicked at least 4 and the Davey burn was terrible.

Viney , Dunn or Strauss would have been handy yesterday.

Ok so I had a second thought on things. I still think we need Sellar in to replace Tom McDonald. He's really struggling right now on big forwards who play him deep as Sentanta and Leuy have. And Strauss and Dunn to come back in.

My biggest rethink has been on Watts. My instincts all say drop him but if it comes down to him, Blease or Rodan for a half forward role maybe we stick with Jack. Playing against Carlton is a really good test of his mental effort.

I've tried to rejig the midfield. What we've seen in the last few games is that Byrnes is one of our best game runners and at finding the ball. Its time for him to play much more a wing, particularly the left footer wing. I've also put Bail into the midfield to tag one of Judd or Murphy. He's been our most physical player lately and won a few nice hard ball gets before burning team mates on the weekend when he's goal hungry. Maybe getting him up the ground makes him think about his disposal more.

Finally I don't see the point in using Davey as an impact player when we are likely to be 10 goals down. And it will be doing nothing for his fitness. I'd like to see Matt Jones have a trial run as the sub to give him a bit of a lighter week and also to challenge him to play as an impact player. I think if the player can play well the sub can be a tool to actually bring back form. If we send Jones in when others are tired he could really find how well he can cover the ground and add physicality to his game with tackling and other things.

I am curious how the forward line is going to look.

Does Clark come back?

Is Dawes ready? Doubtful

Does Fitzpatrick come in 7 goals in 2 games.

Does Pederson get dropped?

Also does Watts go forward?

Option 1

HF Howe Gawn Sylvia

FF Byrnes Clark Fitzpatrick

Option 2

HF Howe Gawn Sylvia

FF Byrnes Fitzpatrick Pederson

Option 3

HF Howe Dawes Sylvia

FF Byrnes Clark Gawn

Option 4

HF Howe Gawn Sylvia

FF Byrnes Fitzpatrick Watts

I don't think Nicholson should come in at all. His form hasn't warranted it in my opinion.

Ok so I had a second thought on things.

Do you want have a third go?

Maybe it's just me (I don't think it is just me, but I felt like saying that..) but I'd have Tom McDonald over Sellar every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

And it's a Sunday game....

Due to his form as an average wingman at Casey whilst Strauss has been in the best 3 weeks in a row.

This is coming from the president of the Dean Kent Fan Club.

FFS, Kent has played 4 games in the VFL, and was "6th" best in one of them. I love Kent as much as the next bloke, but let's give the bloke a game when he earns it.

NB - I know you didn't include Kent in your second team.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie
