I'm not unhappy with watts game but he just lacks intensity and appetite for the contest.

He was in our best today.

Was our only decent forward in the second half.

It's clear, once again, that our major problem is a lack of run in our midfield.

We were beaten on the counterattack many times because we don't have that running power across the board. They got outside us too easily and we struggled to place enough pressure on them to make it difficult.

You can tell that we are trying to play attacking football, but we lack the runners to get to the contests first and work past to carry the footy.

People bemoan selecting athletes over footballers, but we didn't do that and we are now paying the price.

I want to see Pedo dropped for at least a month on the back of one disgraceful act. With Sylvia sprinting down the wing and looking certain to bring it into the 50 and take a shot, what does Pedo do? He leads right into Col's space, bringing a Brisbane player with him, and blocks a certain score. Disgraceful selfish and stupid play. The guy showed in one moment that he doesn't have two braincells to rub together. Bring Fitzy in if we want a depth forward.

I lost count of the number of times we had players jogging through the middle by themselves when Brisbane had the ball.

Every one of those players should be dropped.

If you can't pick up a man then f off.

& this is exactly watt saps the teams confidence & desire to run hard & work for one another. he's a passenger.

Passenger??

Did you see the goals he kicked under pressure?

All class.

He is the best finisher in the team, and the best skilled player, and you guys want to get rid of him?

Who for Sellar?

Agreed. But can we drop all our players because they were all guilty.

Watts has copped his whack but I'd keep him up forward. He was much better up there.

The most glaring thing today was how important Nate Jones is. He was tagged out of the game by Raines and as a result we couldn't win a clearance.

Wah wah wah get your chins up you babies

No matter how stupid you are you can (hopefully) count, we have matched our opponent for 7 of the last 12 quarters. These are obviously small joys but clearly we have improved since the start of the year. 3 weeks ago we lost by 148, today by 28. Obviously some of you are so pathetic that this rate of improvement is not enough for you.

Today at 3:40 into the last qtr, a shot on goal from Sylvia would have reduced the margin to 13 points, he just missed. We matched them for goals in the 1st,2nd and 4th quarters, only losing by the 3 extra goals we conceded in the third. Obviously they kept fighting for most of the game unlike lying down they did for large periods of the first 3 rounds.

This was an interstate game without Clark or Dawes, I think it is fair to say those 2 are worth the 3 goals we lost by. Clearly the likes of Jones, McDonald, Trengove and Grimes were well below their best today. We KNOW they are better than that. We have Viney, Toumpas and Hogan to come into the side over the next few... and I don't know wtf is wrong with some people but Byrnes and Rodan were OK today. Just because you hate losing doesn't give you the right to blatently lie in order to slag off Neeld.

We are coming from a long way back, these needs to occur gradually, you can't just expect to improve 1000% from week to the next. Stop your bloody whingeing FCS.

Well spoken C&B! Too many unfair critics on this site. The boys ARE improving and trying bloody hard.

The big mistakes that hurt more than the rest...

Byrnes kicking into mark... Brisbane Goal!

McDonald dropped mark... Brisbane Goal!

The umpire paying ridiculous holding ball against Tierlich in goalsquare... Brisbane Goal!

Oh yes... Bail not hitting up Davey in goalsquare in last qtr... cost us a certain Goal!

Sylvia streaming forward, Pedersen fails to push forward to create the overlap, Sylvia hand all's to a stationary Pedersen who is immediately tackled cost us a goal.

There would be at least several more examples if you went back and reviewed the tape which is why I put today's loss solely on the players heads, not Neeld's. He should have moved Watts forward earlier though as he was clearly struggling (again) down back and we struggled to find targets up forward.

all of a sudden this place is the Brent Moloney fan club, when last year you couldn't open a thread without somebody knifing him

hey guess what, we have turned over well over 30 players in the last 3-4 years, a couple of them might actually do OK for other clubs

some of you are so peahearted and intent on finding fault in the club it is absurd

It really is our third quarters that have been bad. Why?? Its not like we tire because often our fourth is way better than our third. Is it they are conserving energy for the last? Just puttin it out there.....

I know some posters and many long time Dees supporters want to dream but [censored] me!

PLEASE put this club out of its misery. All this list can do is beat a bunch of school kids who have played less than 40 games of AFL and it took them 3 quarters to do that.

If I hear Neeld say one more time we are a young developing list I will spew up!!

It is heartbreaking to watch this appalling football club and appalling coach and appalling list of people who call themselves AFL listed footballers.

This football club should be relegated to C grade a amateurs ......what a farce of a list.

We matched them in the first quarter, and couldn't keep it up for the whole game. There is only one reason for that: fitness. There's only one cure for that problem: time and effort. Misson is one of the best fitness guys in the game, so I'm confident he can get us to the point where we can play our best for as long as the game goes. We're not there yet, but we will.

We have a glaring problem in the midfield.... and we let a guy go that get 36 possessions against us. Yes well done MFC

Neeld had no choice but to drop him last year. His performances were terrible.

Neeld came in with a scorched earth policy at the club and has shredded a fragile culture elimiinating and disenfranchising players young and old.

By the time he was dropped last year, Neeld had already undermined him.

He is no A grade champion. He is a C grade midfielder that rises to B against weaker teams.

We have an E grade midfield and he made us pay.

We needed wins this year after the shite that was served up last year. This was one of those games that we should have focussed ourselves to win.

We were so off Brisbanes pace it was embarrassing.

What I find most-puzzling in all of this is that there is absolutely no evidence of the team taking any direction at all towards being anything like the hardest to play against.

Contrarily our opponents normally get to use the ball unopposed more than 100 times in a game of footy. It has become very tiresome and predictable.

The Demons are however becoming one of the hardest teams in the AFL to watch.

After two pre seasons with Misson we should be closer to the even bottom half of the teams. We are along way.

Neeld promised a more competitive outfit. He is kidding.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
