Brisbane will bring back Simon Black who got through the twos on the weekend. They will get a massive boost when he is in the side.

We wont win but I expect us to put up a fight.

I'd be very surprised if we won. I don't think we can beat them in melbourne let alone up there. Brisbane are much better than what they are showing right now. We could be the mercy kill they are looking for.

Happy to be proven wrong though!

With Casey in good form, Spencer, Rodan and Strauss would seem contenders for a spot although Jamar/Gawn (Spencer), Terlich (Strauss) and Byrnes (Rodan) won't be dropped.

Good to see some pressure for spots coming from Casey, will only sharpen them up.

With Dawes and Dunn to come back from injury the pressure will only build. Hopefully Dunn will put some pressure on Watts to take it up a gear.

As soon as someone starts one of these threads we lose. You are all kidding yourself. Will back Brisbane at the line and make a fortune

What a cheery soul you are !

Redden, Hanley and McGrath are all likely to be omissions.

Just saying.

Interesting. Redden and Hanley especially are big outs.

it will be tough.. but we wont get the points.

I just hope we can stay with them for a while.

They will be DESPERATE for a win and might just take their anger out on us

And why would the MFC be any less DESPERATE considering the rough ride we have all endured.

If Neeld wishes to remain the long term coach then games like next weekend are crucial.

He must prepare the side to win. The rest lies on the players shoulders after the have crossed the white line.

Brisbane will be rightly favourites, but to answer the question I do believe we are a chance.

Nothing like a win, to boost confidence.

Remarkably, if we win this week we are likely to be 11th or 12th. That is how close the competition is at the moment.

We are a chance, a $5.50 chance. Reckon though there'll be takers and we'll start shorter.

Agreed. Against ANY other team we were down by 100+ at 3 quarter time today. A 12 goal quarter would have been no use. I can honestly say the first 3 quarters were the worst I have ever seen from and MFC side. Despite it appearing our intensity and defensive side were solid in the 1st quarter we still managed to give up 3 goals to an U19 side. And then the intensity disappeared, the willingness to spread for each other or to cover the GWS spread was utterly disgusting and our willingness to compete was putrid. That was not a professional standard of sporting event today. We will get smashed next week.

I'm at the point where I can't even try to wear the rose colored glasses anymore. I believe the supporters need to start to enact a subtle change in culture by demanding improvement instead of being satisfied with patches of decent football (which is all we've seen for the last 15 years).

I can kind of forgive some of the missed targets because that MAY improve over time...but the dropped chest marks I just can't come to grips with. These guys must have been good at taking chest marks in their junior days to have even been considered for drafting?? The continual handballing backwards to stationary targets without anybody moving at pace to receive and carry is just killing us. I blame the coaching entirely for this situation. I also blame the coaches for not having our players at 100% intensity 100% of the time. Nobody can tell me those blokes were fair dinkum all day today. We're a team that has been trying to work on our defensive side yet we can leak 5 goals in 10 minutes even against an ordinary side. How about we start by setting one goal for the match. Let's have 100 tackles each game (I conceed our tackling numbers were better today, but they have been deplorable this year). If everyone is so sure our list is so terrible then you can assume we won't have the ball as much as our opposition, so why don't we put them under some pressure? How many teams have lost games where they've had 100 tackles? Seriously would have thought this was the easiest part of the game to control and something that sits in the hands of the coaching staff to drive.

And lastly, there are 2 ways you can carry yourself as a talented/good player in a struggling team. The Nathan Jones way or the James Frawley way. I can safely say I am proud to have one of those 2 blokes wearing our jumper and representing our club every week, not so much the other one lately.

100 tackles in a match for a team almost never happens.

In fact, not one team managed it for this round of football.

How about we set realistic goals?

Fair enough...but not many other teams have as little of the ball as we do...meaning our opponents have it much more, meaning we should be tackling more often...

why do people go out of their way to be negative, to the point they just blatently make things up 'every quarter but one' , how about 2 today and 2 last week, for a total of 4, 3 more than you purport

Sorry to burst your happy bubble but our performances in the other quarters far outweigh the "good" footy that you purport that we have played. I apologise for my arithmetic errors. One hundred point drubbings tend to make me dyslexic.

Redden has been cleared, Hanley has 1 week.

Black back? Maybe. He said at the weekend that he felt he needed another week, but given how they played yesterday ...

Yes but Black played for their two's on the weekend and will be brought in for a bit of leadership through the middle, may struggle to run out the game but will come in if 60/70% because they will want to set the standard early

We have all seen how bad we can play, but the last quarter against the GWS also showed us how we can play. I dont expect we will kick 12.xx too often, but be competitive put in, tackle, tackle, shepherd and help each other out. Any we may have a chance. A bit of confidence is all these guys need to get them off the floor and get them moving in the right directly.

Posted

An inexperienced side in GWS came very close to winning today. The last quarter was something both sides were not expecting.

Every round MFC are a chance, the problem is that when they are 2-3 goals down they give up, today being an exception.

nope, the last few weeks we were to inexperienced & undersized.

week 1 was a selection blunder, as much as anything.

Belief is a complicated thing, & selection is crucial to it.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
