It's time for Watts to leave - according to Barrett

Well according to Damien Barrett it is: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-04-16/time-to-leave-jack

JACK Watts needs to leave Melbourne.

Melbourne needs to let him go.

Things just haven¹t worked for individual or club since they joined amid manic publicity at the 2008 national draft, and even in a best-case scenario from here, they are not going to work for a very, very long time.

He called the Moneyball strategy failing and now he is calling the Watts/Melbourne situation not working anytime soon. What else can this modern day Nostrodamus predict?

Barrett is an A grade [censored]. It's time for Watts to pull his finger out, but he has a couple more years before we give him the boot I'd say.

Still only 22 and has shown bits, just has to put something together.

One of the least credible journalists, and of those twats who insists on asserting his predictions as fact.

It's Round 3 you [censored] purple [censored], just let the season play out before heaping more [censored] on the MFC that we can't do anything about.

"Maybe it can be traced back to his very first game in the AFL, round 11 2009. Having quarantined Watts from the pressures of the big-time for the first half of the season, Melbourne officials abandoned the cotton-wool approach and, putting its own public relations requirements ahead of Watts, unveiled him in front of 61,000 spectators in the Queen¹s Birthday game against Collingwood."

He's not wrong about that.

That entire thing was embarrassing for the club and Watts. They actually made an announcement as the team ran out: "Ladies and gentlement, No.1 draft pick Jack Watts, and the Melbourne Football Club."

God awful.

Another Jack Watts opinion piece? Boring, I'd prefer to read stories about Carlton being on the verge of 0-4, having no decent KPP's and the fact they lured Malthouse back from retirement with an outdated game plan?

Watts needs confidence.

If we were to give up on players because of a lack of confidence we would strike a line through half the list.

We persevere, not because of where he was picked, but because of the person he is and the player he could be.

And, I responded to this thread because a few MFC fans think like this, not because of Barrett.

Please don't read Damian Barrett.

He likes easy kills and we are surrounded by blood in the water.

Don't click the link.

It was an awful day.

Nothing's changed.

He's copped a heavy tag in his first two games and struggled to cope.

Mind you, I don't think our coaches have helped him enough....but, he needs to stand up.

I thought Barrett was a journo. Somehow, somewhere in the last two years (I'd say now he's with crocmedia) he's gone from that to editorialising. And he's not terribly good at it. All he does is agree with the top clubs and disagree with the strugglers. No matter what.

If it came to it, I'd put money on him writing an article defending Essendon, even if the players were blatantly injecting HGH, just because they're winning.

An absolute [censored].

No one doubts the ability he has, but there is no physical side to his game. With Hogan coming in next year he won't be returning forward, leave him at Casey for at least three weeks(considering how we are travelling to drop a player then rush them back after one decent game in the seconds defeats the purpose, and he hasnt even played one yet) then try him on a wing for a few weeks. If he plays to his potential he could become dangerous and prove a difficult match up. If not i have no problems trading him at years end, his no.1 pick status means nothing, he's still young enough for another club to think they could turn him around and could be part of a deal for a midfield player from a top 6 club with salary cap issues because Watts next contract won't be worth much. We've all seen how money can change people's minds.

What a joke.

Lets say this about every single player that may find it easier to play in a top side.....

I want him to stay, a coach show faith in him, provide the structures to draw on the attributes which he possesses that are AFL standard (speed, decision making, kicking skills)

If I was Jack Watts I'd of already told the club I want out.

It's a disgrace what Neeld has done to Watts.

The media was already using Watts as our poster boy for failure, then Neeld goes and subs him - then drops him!

It's a disgrace, on top of that he has second gamer Terlich doing the kick outs.

I won't feel one bit of pity for Mark Neeld when he is sacked.

Agreed. Chuck him on a wing (ala Richo) and let him run riot

Barrett is a drop kick, but there’s a bit more substance in this article than most that he has written.

How dare he make our pin-up boy earn his spot! Dean Bailey would have never done that!

Unless we get a youngish ready-made elite player in return (which won't happen), no way should we let him go. Who are we going to replace him with? Another 18 year old kid that will get smashed? No thanks. We need to keep players like Watts and Sylvia.

Not sure if you're referring to my post as a joke, but in response to yours- How is Cale Morton finding it in a top side?? Top sides don't gift players games but back themselves to turn careers around. We drafted Watts as a forward, with recent recruiting Neeld doesn't want him up there, reading pre season training reports he was the go to man coming out of defence....dropped after two games. He is running out of options. Neeld, Craig and Misson are not stupid, any chance Jack might be part of the problem. We often ask should we have traded Sylia while he still had youth on his side, lets learn from that.

Ridiculous article, written by a ridiculous man, to feed the ridiculous masses of morons who have given up on a young KPF.

Harden up people!

Watts is no longer a "young KPF" - with Clark, Dawes and Hogan where will Watts fit in? If he can't get a game ahead of Sellar or Pedersen that should be setting off the bells ringing.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
