After being sidelined with concussion for a long time he returned yesterday only to be taken off the ground for a concussion test. He,his family and team mates must be concerned about what lies ahead. I dip my lid to you Rohan. You're not the best player and I have given you plenty over the years when it comes to your football skills. Yesterday you looked pretty sharp and had a crack all day. I will never ever question your endeavor.

I think the knock to the head obviously put a big concern over his day but before that (when the team was up and about) he was playing pretty good footy! Skills looked good for him as well.

I was quite impressed by his disposal and ability to resume his AFL career without a hitch. I really hope everything turns out well for him after his career health wise.

I've met Rohan, seems a decent sort of bloke!

But he should leave while he still has a future.

Another blow to the head could really mess up his life!

We already lost bartram. Losing Ro would be a massive blow in terms of small defensive players. His probably one of the few players i have seen to not let being down in a game slow him in any way.

Really hope he pulls through

I know concussion is still a work in progress from medical experts but I do hope if Rohan is seen to be in danger he will be told to end his career.

shouldn't he have worn a helmlet like inb the old days?

The evidence that helmets help prevent concussion are inconclusive.

Bail's hardness, speed and competitiveness was on display yesterday. Be a big loss for mine if he has to retire. BUT your health is paramount.

Actually they are conclusive.....they DON'T prevent concussion. They help prevent scalp and cranial injuries, e.g. lacerations and skull fractures. Concussion is a product of the brain 'sloshing' within the cranial cavity, which in turn is a product of the head coming to a sudden 'stop', generally termed 'decleration forces' such as with any of the hits we see that result in concussion. Helmets don't prevent this.

Thats crap, shouldnt be allowed to play for the club again unless he wears a helmet, just another lawsuit headed MFC way.

Actually it's not crap. There is NO evidence, and that's worldwide, that helmets prevents concussion, and there's a reason. See my post above. The facts.

I hope he can continue. He has run and grunt and late in a game is still grunting and running.

But like I said to the woman in the crowd in front of me yesterday - I think Ro is done. He has suffered 5 (I think) concussions now.

I read an article many months ago in (I think) the Age suggesting that helmets of themselves did nothing to prevent concussion.

They certainly cannot prevent the brain bouncing around after a heavy knock to the head!

I'm sure none of us want to see Rohan end up like Daniel Bell!

What a very compassionate response! Well done, champ.

Have always loved Bail's effort and persistence. Thought he was one of the best on Saturday.

Disappointed for him that he had to be checked for concussion during the game, but really pleased (1) that the club took the cautious approach and (2) with the new substitute rule which gave the club time to check before having to activate a permanent substitution which would have been unnecessary in this instance.

One small change is needed - the player being tested for concussion should be wearing a different colour bib on the bench (yellow, for example) so everyone can understand what's going on.

That is a really good idea. An announcement was made that he was subbed off then I saw him in green and thought that we had stuffed up and someone lost the red one or forgot to put it on him. The announcement maybe should also state subbed for test or something like that.

Loved seeing Bail in that first half - he was great but after watching the Rohan Bail interview on the Robo show it just feels wrong (quite sad really). Hate to see him go but if it happens again I think he might be gone - there has to be a point where we put his well-being before the clubs.

For those calling for him to retire, I think we should just let Rohan and the experts deal with that. Melbourne have taken a cautious approach and that is to be commended. I really liked his game on Saturday and have always seen something in him, so hopefully he can continue his career, and post career, unaffected.

It has to be a worry for Rohan and the club and I know there is no scientific evidence on the use of helmets but Paul Callery swears by it and it didn't hurt Gary Wilson. It's got to be worth a try if he's going to continue playing. As an ex player it's probably a good time for Paul and Rohan to have a chat.

Happy he is ok.

It's his vocation and his decision.

And helmets will make it worse. They give you a false sense of security.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
