"Trenners may be at risk of losing his mate."

That's called a quote.

How is that suggesting that we should cut players? It is stating a risk.

A risk of what? Being cut perhaps?

Just think you're being a bit trigger happy mate, that's all. Let the season play out a bit before we start saying who might be losing their mates.

No doubt he may have disappointed to date (has had plenty of mates there though). Luke has had more than his share of injuries and this year was his first real chance at a preseason, unfortunately I understand he did have a couple of setbacks there though as well (speaking to his sponsor). However with all that in mind I think Luke has plenty to offer and hasn't yet played to his ability. His kicking and grunt should be an asset and I hope he displays it in 2013.

Agree that he would want a better showing this year.

Wanted to see peoples thoughts on Luke, so far in my opinion he has not made the grade.

Sure it is good to add some brute and mongrel in the team but if they are unable to effect the actual scoreline by doing it then I do not see much point to having it in the team.

I know he has had some injuries however so has many other players such as Blease, Evans and Jetta who are showing obvious signs of putting in the hard yards to make the cut.

I hope he can turn things around this year because I think if he doesn't then Trenners may be at risk of losing his mate.

If you really want to see people's thoughts, you could start by not putting your own point of view in the thread title. Then the thread can at least start objectively and balanced.

This year is his first pre season when he has nearly completed all sessions. So in at the end other words this has been his best so far, and that why im willing to judge him at the end of the year. Still think he has alot to offer but injurys have really slowed him down. Was a star at jnr level and i remember a couple of phantom drafts he was rated a top 10 prospect.

He had a couple of good games first up but seems to be in search of a position at the moment. I think the big hammy he did at the dome put him back quite a bit and he still hasn't regained the depth he had in his kicking before that injury although some of the track watches have noted it is back.

One of a few that needs to move forward this year, wouldn't write him off as a BP special just yet.

Season 1 - injured entire year

Season 2 - made a nice fist of playing half back flank, disposal and toughness impressive but lacked the fitnessed to do it for the whole year

Season 3 - Up and down year again not having a full season, flashes of quality play but not enough, used as a forward and sometimes as a sub and with the lack of ball coming in to Melbourne forwards line it was hardly a surprise

Season 4 ??? Looked to have a better preseason and fitter but still some injuries

So end of story we have a guy who can play footy and kick the ball and is tough and aggressive. Injuries have prevented him developing fitness and consistentsy. We now need to see him play another season to work out if he'll be a talented half forward with midfield ability like Paul Chapman or a battler.

You dont give young fellas much of a chance do you?

Tappy and Trenners just need to string a couple of injury free seasons together.

Is he 20 yet? Geez your a hard marker, i suppose he is too skinny too?

Jury out to consider the case over the next 7 months or so, weighing the contemporary evidence as stated by so many - will return to court in October with their verdict.

i believe he is being played out of position and should be moved to play the Paul Chapman role. As a juniour he played his footy in the forward pocket and was a deadly kick for goal. Obviously he does not have the pace of other small forwards but has a good set of hands and goal sense

I don't see Chappy in Tapscott. Chappy is a natural ball winner, smart and could easily play as a mid. Tapscott isn't.

Like Strauss, a player I'm hoping rather then knowing.

Boourns! Well before his time seeing it shows the wrecker in action. As HT pointed out it's Paul "Supergoal" Wheatley.

Sorry it is a very small image i am looking at.

All i could see was 31 & Kasperksy....I was then feeling very ill..

I now feel better!

There's a difference between saying a player could be cut and suggesting he should be cut

It's a fair question because he is yet to cement a spot in the side going into his fourth year. I'm a fan and am hoping he can turn it around this year but if not his spot will definitely be reviewed at the end of the season.

Just reckon the combination of saying he's "another one of BP's specials" and "Trenners may be at risk of losing his mate" is making it clear what the OP thinks in regards to cutting him.

Farout! I'd say Tappscott has shown about as much as Blease...... His first couple of games were as good as any of our new players....

Is this the same at all clubs, dc, or are we just terrible at developing highly rated juniors? I wonder where some of these guys might be at if they were picked up by Coll or Haw or Geelong.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
