Hopefully this gives you all a bit of a laugh...

From the Herald Sun, 4 January 2013

"There has also been strong backing for West Coast at the seemingly generous odds of $7.

“We took a $3000 bet on West Coast at $7 for a potential $21,000 collect right after the announcement that they had recruited classy midfielder Cale Morton so plenty of punters are confident they have the list to go to the next level this season,” Hamilton said."

"Classy"must mean something else over there .

I dont know who is fooling themselves more-the WC punter or the Dees guy who put on 5k to collect 75.

I'm over sports betting .

They have destroyed cricket , along with James Slitherland and co.

Watch them influence , then ruin football.

I should read

We took a $3000 bet on Cale Morton at $1000 for a potential big collect right after the announcement that they had recruited him to make the starting 22 at WC, so some dumb punter is confident he has what it takes to go to the next level this season, we reckon he's done his balls” Hamilton said."

I think Bennell will be the one to lead them to a premiership...Morton will just be his right hand man. If those two are given a chance with the Eagles at the top level they'll each consistently rack up 40+ disposals at 98%+ efficiency. They're that good.

I wish the Dees had invested more time into them... 2013 will be their year! And if it's not, 2014 will be.

Sarcasm.

Surely he is "the missing link": he will instil that missing hardness that they need to bring them to the top.

Contrary to what's said here, Morton's not useless.

He just doesn't fit into Neeld's strategy. And that's okay.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does well with WCE.

I'm with you, I won't be the least bit surprised. The Eagles' track record for actually developing young talent into solid footballers is in another stratosphere compared to ours.

The article itself is usual Herald Sun BS. I read their articles online and fully expect sentences to finish with 'lol', 'WTF' and smily tags.
That being said, while he won't be the missing link to them winning a flag, he may improve. If he does, it will be an indictment on the old regime and to an extent a blot on the current regime.

He definately doesn't look the same as last year. Has definately put on muscle.

The fact that this is his last crack at it as spurred him on I recon.

Will be interesting to see how he goes.

Yeah,

Looks like hes got a tan and grown dreddies aswell.

Morton has the chance to make some on here eat their words.....

He looks bigger, but not by much..... He will get a lot bigger and stronger...... and in two years he will dominate....... there will be people on here crying, then blaming the FD.....

He has more skill than he is given credit for on here......

If Cale Morton dominates for Meth Coke i will be filthy on Cale Morton.

People have every right to be on his back.

He had ample opportunities at MFC to shine and didn't.

That kick last year was pitiful. And who kicked it.

Cale himself. Nobody could do it for him.

I will not be eating words if he succeeds. I will be furious as an MFC Member that we were used.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute.
