Casey Scorpions coaching decision

The Casey Scorpions have started training for 2013 without a senior coach although an appointment is imminent.

According to this article in the Leader Newspapers circulating in the Casey area - Casey Scorpions squad still strong

■ the Casey Scorpions have retained the bulk of their senior players;

■ departures include Rian McGough (Tatura), Dave Collins (local football) and Matt Fieldsend (Port Melbourne);

■ training with the Scorps are Gippsland Power graduates Anthony Tipungwuti, Daniel Jackson, Jarryd Drew, Tom Fusinato, Darcy Irwin and Brenton Hillard as are former North Melbourne-listed Ben Hughes and Cranbourne ruck prospect Michael Boland. Northern Territorian Tipungwuti, who came to Victoria in his early teens to further his prospects in the game, was with the Power for three seasons and is a chance to be drafted in next month's rookie draft.

■ George Morgan (former Warragul senior coach) has been appointed an assistant coach; and

■ Simon Pasinati (Keysborough) will coach the Development League team.

The article mentioned that several candidates were 'at the demons'

To me that sounds a little more specific than just having MFC connections.

Could we see Satterly or one of the other development coaches be installed as the Casey coach as part of the discussions that occurred recently with Casey in financial strife? It would certainly assist with the development of the MFC juniors... almost like having our own team in the VFL.

The only thing the Scorps need now is a coach. Despite media reports over the past month that an announcement is imminent, the team remains without a coach less than two weeks before the Xmas break.

With many of Melbourne's young recruits likely to spend a fair amount of time at Casey next year, the situation could hardly be described as satisfactory.

Not satisfactory, but not really surprising in the circumstances KC. Maybe CC should step into the breach in an interim capacity. This could happen without disrupting Melbourne's established coaching arrangements.

Maybe not such a good idea, the club has been trying to distance him from the FD after problems with CS & CC getting to involved and the whole Bailey 186 thing. Would rather pass on that one.

I would like to see it being an MFC full-time appointment though.

I agree rjay, but if it comes down to Casey having no coach in the New Year, both Casey and Melbourne would be compromised. In the end it boils down to how close they are to appointing the new Casey coach. Hopefully they won't need CC (or anyone else) as a 'stop gap'.

It is certainly an extraordinary situation for a VFL club to have no coach by now.

KC and others, I do have to ask, how will this have such a big impact on us, in the immediate future that is?

The entire Melbourne list train together during preseason, and I'd imagine for most of the normal season's training sessions. How much do our "reserves players" have to do with the Casey team, other than on game day?

Also, while any coach in the VFL will have their game plans, etc, I would've thought that when a Melbourne listed player plays for Casey, they would have certain expectations and plays that the MFC would want them to work on, and that would take higher priority over the Casey game plan.

I may be totally wrong. As I'm not in Victoria, I don't have a huge amount of exposure to the VFL. One thing that I will say (which will probably be let down due to the previous sentence), I think the VFL is a total inconvenience to AFL clubs, especially those that don't have standalone teams. The VFL/AFL system as it is doesn't work, and disadvantages teams that are aligned to VFL clubs. The sooner the AFL stepped in and restructured it, the better we (MFC) will be.

A very big part of this though wad the insistance that Melbourne have a greatert say in how Casey went about , well everything lol as I seem to remember the tone of the article was even them Melb was worried about Casey and far from impressed by its ability to run itself let alone any alignment and as such the interests of Melb.

Then it went bang !!! Then Casey went for a chat with Vlads ppl and I belive we held their hand at that point (happy to be corrected)

Not much seems to have surfaced ,publicly, about the conditions of its bail out but one might suppose some of the overiding conditions probably didn't/don't sit well with dyed in the wool casey stalwarts-.

This sounds very much like the rucking of antlers. Casey won't win this and need to get on board the new reality.

It will be frustrating for some, humbling for others.

You'd have to think that all the decent coaches interested in a job next year have already been signed up - and even a gun new coach needs time to get to know his players.

The delay is a real concern - it must be working against Casey's recruiting and pre-season training plans vis a vis the other VFL clubs.

I want Jesse Hogan to play in a well coached competitive team next year. With every passing "coachless" day this becomes less and less likely.
