Pretty disappointing, but you win some and you lose some.

As far as a loss goes, I've experienced worse as a Melbourne supporter.

Good luck to him.

P.S.- Ross Lyon is such a [censored]. Always loathed the guy.

What a bittersweet moment. He's obviously a loyal type of guy if he's formed that much of a bond with the boys already. I expect once he walks through the door at Freo and gets in to training and really gets in to it he'll be just as happy there as he was with us. I guess at the end of the day he'll be living the dream even if it didn't quite pan out the way we all thought it would.

Jeez I feel robbed, but amused at the same time. That's how the system works, so no point dwelling on it too much. Good luck Jack.

I feel a bit robbed losing this guy, but our other picks look pretty good though.

I think with Jack going to freo, he will really struggle to get a game there. He'll be behind Sandilands, Clarke and Griffen. All these guys are very good on their day so they would all have to go down injured or 2 of them before he would get a game imo. You could possibly say he would be in the same situation as if he was playing for us, but his chances would be better as Jamar is our only truely proven AFL level ruckman.

It really is a shame we've missed out on him, sounds like the guys had an emotional roller coster over the last few weeks. Not picked up in the NAB draft, training with us and for all he's been told will be a demon, gets to know all the players only to be picked up by Freo. Sounds like the coaching staff tried to make it as easy as they could for him, good comments from Neeld.

Good luck to him.

I'm disappointed too, but I see a couple of positives as well:

1) Jack Hannath's disappiontment is clear evidence of a special type of bond developing at our footy club, the likes of which I doubt we have seen since the Swooper days. This sort of mutual respect and comradeship between players, coaching staff et al is a prerequisite to success. Long may it flourish!

2) another rookie will get an opportunity to develop in a great learning environment, make a name for himself and hopefully do our jumper proud.

ps. I'm enjoying being 'fired up' at the moment, so please don't throw cold water on my party by telling me not to get ahead of myself.

It's so nice having players actually want to come to our club, and being disappointed having to go elsewhere. Great to see the team actually becoming a TEAM.

Good luck to Jack; maybe he'll be a Demon at some point down the road.

Waving goodbye to Moloney was the best thing that has happened to this club since the 2000 Prelim Final.

Spoilt brat. Who wants to be yelled and bullied by a guy who racks up stats against bottom sides??

No wonder the vibe around the club has improved out of sight.

Really? The best thing since 2000?! In 12 years? It's not hard to think of a number of good times since then (albeit few), rather than slagging off one who has moved on having represented the red & blue as one of the "best things", WYL.

I prefer not to celebrate and trash talk a former player and representative of our club. Moloney may have had his flaws - it's been documented - but I wish him the best in his future endeavours with his new club and beyond.

By all means WYL, slag as many people as you want in the book you're writing about yourself (in 50shadesofWYL), where there will undoubtedly be no code of conduct.

you dont have to agree with my sentiments but i will put $$$ on it being correct.

He was a bad egg. That is not slagging. It is recognizing a problem.

As for the book i am writing. That is your choice, but don't slag it off entirely before you have read one word.

You may just enjoy it...without even wanting to.

As for a lack of code of conduct, well it just shows you have never ventured into anything remotely to do with publishing or copyright.

Like I said his flaws were well documented. It's already been recognized and dealt with.

As for the code of conduct...well, that seems to have gone straight through to the keeper, again.

only in your eyes. I am well aware of what can be published and what cannot. I certainly don't wish to spend months in court defending remarks. Life is too short for that.

"50 shades of WYL...Not bad i like that"

Once you start writing about things that happened over 40 years it does get like that.

If we really want Hannath we should let him know and he can sign a 1 year contract with Feo and ask to be traded or walk at the end of next year.

It does sound as if Freo didn't even bother talking to him. If true, that is pretty poor behaviour and in fact may be revenge for Clark.

absolutely. Ross Lyon would have loved Mitch Clark in his Forward Line in 2012, they would have got mighy close to that cup with Clark.

He would have been Filthy at what unfolded.

Can you blame him?

The MFC should watch the progress of Hannath closely. He may yet play for us in 2-3 years if he is up to it.

Not sure that is the best thing to happen, Redleg. A truly professional player would grasp the opportunity given regardless of club, commit and give it his all. Not sure I'd trust a (currently) fringe player who would enter into a sneaky deal behind another club's back. As we've seen with Tippett, these things are not looked upon well by Vlad - not that we are necessarily talking about the same deal or that Hannath is in the same class as Tippett.

12 mths is a long time in footy and this time next year I'm guessing that Hannath will be thinking much differently about his selection. I too am disappointed we did not get him, however I wish him well at Freo.

Isn't it great that players want to come to MFC. How things change.

This is a superb moment capturing the emotion as Hannath is told he'll be playing AFL next year, but not with the Dees:

Well done to the whole content and digital team, including all the happy snaps from Matt Burgan, the coverage of this

camp has been first class.

That's powerful, fly-on-the-wall stuff...

Burgan and co. should win a Walkley...

very nice touch MFC well done.

After last season's debacle i am very impressed with our supporters.

Can't wait for Denham to slag off at us for losing Jack and predicting that he will the best ruckman the game has ever seen.

You're letting your emotions get the better of you. There's nothing to gain from this proposal other than messing with the young man's head. He's been given his one shot at a career, the last thing he should be doing is spending a precious season thinking about being elsewhere. He needs to focus. We say thanks anyway, we wish him well, we shut the door behind him.

Says you.

I remember another player doing exactly the same, his name is Nathan Buckley. Yes I know he missed 3 flags with the Lions.

All I am saying is that if he really wanted to play for us he could get back here via a few methods.

Of course I would be happy for the kid to have an AFL career even at Freo.

I am pretty sure that he will forget about us as soon as he lands at Freo training and be happy where he is..

Again, I was just saying for players who want to play somewhere else, like Luke Ball and Tippett for example, there are ways.

Superb video that. I love the honesty - he really didn't want to leave, and was disappointed that he wouldn't be joining the Dees, even though he's now living the dream.

Very bittersweet - great to see he's going to get the opportunity to play footy at the top level but i was getting pretty comfortable at the thought he would be joining us. Would be very happy if he ended up back at the Dees in a couple of years time, but that's the kind of question we ask him when he comes out of contract, not when he's just been one of the lucky kids drafted into the AFL.

Wishing him all the best of luck.

Posted

I wish him well also, good luck and a long successful career Jack.

From a Dee point of view it was interesting to see the bond between the players after such a short time. I've heard talk of Neeld not being a great communicator with players, well I think his impromptu speech was on the money and showed a lot of respect and you could see the feeling from everyone. If this kid really wanted to play with us after a couple of weeks at the club then Neeld and his FD must be doing a lot right.

Hey...we may well have a real team to support next year.

Just shows how brutal the whole drafting thing is. People's lives and not knowing which side of the country they are going to be living for the next 2 years. And there the lucky ones that get drafted!!

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
