Personally I'm going with Colquhoun.

We could do with another small defender/midfielder who can use the ball well.

Strauss is yet to make that spot his own yet, so with Colquhoun, Tarich, Jetta & Toumpas to possibly spend his first year down there it could certainly give us some options.

I'd never heard of three of our national draft selections before last night, so I figure I have buckley's of picking the rookies.

Colqhoun for sure. So composed, lovely weighted kick off half-back. Was the one for me that stood out for SA in the championships. Sets up the play from the back. Neeld may think he is a bit on the light side though. I like him more than Strauss as he gets more involved. A bit like a young General.

Garlett seems like the biggest waste of talent! He should be able to make it in AFL but until (if ever) he sorts his off field issues i don't think any club would risk him, even if he does only take up a rookie spot.

Out of those options Colquhoun would be the best option imo. Great user of the ball off half back, like Watts?

Wouldn't touch Garlett with a 10 ft pole. We're building a culture but I don't think it's strong enough yet to bring in culture sores and try to turn them around.

I voted Colquhoun, was keen on him after watching a few games of the champs. He kept getting his hands on the ball and almost always used it well. The knock on him would be he was a receiver and from memory didn't win a lot of his own ball.

Nelson is another I'd be keen on, had a very good year in the WAFL and worked hard on his weaknesses from all reports I've read.

I'm still o/s and can't watch vids on the wifi I've been getting, but I read that Neeld is keen to go youth with these picks to develop them. Colquhuon and Nelson would fit that mould with our first pick. I think we need another small forward as well with one of the picks.

Would love us to pick up Nick Rippon from the Rebels, is meant to be a bit small, but he looked good in the limited footage i saw of him, really took the game on

If I were Neeld I'd select Garlett, call the kid into his office and say "Against the advice of my recruiters and my own better judgement I'm going to give you a lifeline at an AFL career. But you're going to do it the hard way. A rookie spot on minimum wage and a guarantee that you won't be elevated onto the senior list in 2013. You'll be playing every game at Casey in a bid to show us that you have the desire and discipline necessary to play AFL football. Do that and this time next year we'll consider you for a spot on the senior list. It'll be entirely up to you. No babysitting, no coddling. Everything's on you. But let me be clear ... while you're at this club you'll be on one strike. One stuff up, one report of you getting up to no good and you're out the door ... no ifs, ands or buts. Gone. You're expected at training at 3pm tomorrow. Be a good idea to get there early. Good luck."

i'd love it to be garlett - as nomoremrniceguy says, it's the opportunity to give a super talent a chance and prove that the culture we are building is strong enough to take a wayward boy and turn him into a mature man.

i expect it'll be colquhoun or some other bloke none of us have ever heard of based upon our later picks in the national draft.

Garlett ,purely because he can suck back cans and smokes with Neeldy after training whilst we build our culture thingo.

colquhoun - rebounding defender with great skills

for our 2nd rookie pick i think we should go for emmanuel irra. neeldy says that he doesn't mind having these youngsters develop for a while, and looking at his amazing pace and excellent disposal, i think that if given time to develop, irra could become a very good player as well as providing some serious x factor.

andrew boston should also be heavily looked at

Sam Colquhoun - Was rated really highly and somehow slipped. Could be a very good player for us (or whoever picks him up). You can never have too many good users.

I wouldn't be horribly upset if we used the last spot on Garlett, but you'd call it a speculative pick at best given his obvious issues.

You feel he may be irrapressible?

hehe yes robbie. i don't know whether he would be worth it but his 2 youtube highlights from 2 games show good skill levels and a good feel for the game

does make you think that if he can do that in just 3 years what a couple of rookie years could do

i'd expect for a refugee who's only been in the country 3 years and whose family are living in adelaide that a shift on his own might be too big a wrench

Don't be boring guys! Garlett could be anything. Bit of tough love and out of his friendship group he'll come good!

Unfortunately the media frenzy that surrounds the AFL these days means that it is generally more hassle than it is worth with players that are likely to play up..the knock on effect to sponsorship etc means they would have to be a pretty amazing player to justify the risk.

The last thing we need next year is off field headlines - surely we have had enough of those for a lifetime!!

Neeld said in his recap of the draft that they still had a few kids on their list that were not drafted. If I was him however, I would sit young Jimmy Toumpas down and ask him his thoughts on SA players that were not drafted. I'd do the same with the other recruits. Information from within the coal face could uncover a real gem.

For a guy who has only played the game for 3 years, irra is quite impressive. has good feel for all aspects

If you think Irra can bring something to the table ,without getting annoyed .

And he doesn't become tating ,remains sponsible.

Then its probably not an ational decision .

We may need him .

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
