When the deck chairs stop shuffling and elan and results start appearing in that order I will ditch my cynicism. Have heard too many tiresome excuses and false promises that justify our lameness past, present and perhaps future. As the old saying goes "show me the money?" Fortunately I have many real positives in my life to be cheerful about. And many other supporters feel like me but not many would waste their time here.

Fair enough ADC, but why comment now? Using that logic we could have traded in Ablett , Pendlebury and Selwood and got Goddard and Lake as free agents and you still wouldn't be happy. Proof in the pudding and all that

It.s called negotiating P_Man

Walsh wouldn't be earning his coin if he didn't make these noises.

Dawes will arrive in the Red & Blue & it will be on our terms, the Pies must move him on & they know it.

I understand and appreciate that. I was also making reference to his condescending words regarding our club.

Plus the way he dealt with Wellingham's exit. He just comes across as a real grub.

In the past 12 months I have come to the realisation that the major problem is the organisation at the top end that is the real problem. Players and FD have been scapegoats. They have failed this club badly and appear immune from removal. Only when they are gone I believe we will start moving forward.

Pick 3 (Hogan) is more our "reward" for finishing 16th in '012 no?

Net return for Scully is more pick 4, Dawes and Barry.

You could look at it that way, but 13 was tied to Hogan as well.

There were 3 other clubs circling this morning....i actually thought the Dogs had finalized the deal so i am most suprised...

Many people forget....Neeld Coached Dawes & Leigh Brown played alongside him...So they would know what they are getting.

A Collingwood supporter said on SEN this afternoon that Dawes was a MFC supporter as a kid and that she thought this might have had some influence on his decision, along with Neeld and Brown having been at Collingwood with him.

That battle has been run and won ADC. Time to move on.

Getting Dawes is just a desperate act to get a name player to the club to make believe we are moving forward. Same for the lions and bulldogs.

Comedy gold! As a kid i loved Oscar the Grouch - thought he was hilarious. I'd never block you ADC - too funny. 1415 posts of pure comic genius.

I love the fact that we are getting two premiership players who will show most of the list just what hard work really means.

Having said all that I have a sick feeling in my stomach that we won't get a deal done with Collingwood who will hold out and keep Dawes.

Harrington and Neeld have been brilliant this trade period

I am backing them to get Dawesto the MFC while still keeping pick 20.

Perhaps Stef Martin and our 3rd rounder to the Pies for Dawes.

Any more than pick 20 is to much....... It's nice to have a player say they want to play for us....... But don't pay overs!!

If we want a fair deal, then we shouldn't deal with Collingwood...... Pederson looks a better option, for a fair trade....

Pick 20 and Stef Martin or Ricky Petterd would be my offer.

I'm happy to pay a little over the top for him.

Would rather that than miss out altogether.

That's more than a little over the top though. Pick 20 is more than fair. If someone trumps that offer a la Melbourne with Clark last year then we can reevaluate. He's marginally better than Ben Holland, who we got for pick 20.

Posted

We've also got the GWS guys coming out of contract next year to buy us the last pieces of the puzzle.

I've been thinking exactly this. Viney plus pick 4 and a rejuvenated Trengove and Blease with a bigger tank makes us far more impressive in the midfield in 2013. Add topline midfielder from GWS or Gold Coast in 12 months and our jigsaw is near complete.

he was drafted at pick 28. You can't tell me he is worth more than pick 20 a couple (good, but mostly average) years later!

If we get him for 20, I'll accept it. I'd prefer to do the Dawes, Ray, pick 39 deal.

If they want more than that, then too bad.

But knowing Collingwood, they squeeze everything they can get because they know they can, e.g Tarrant, a few years ago. He was worth a mid 2nd rounder AT WORST, they got him for 2 picks in the 40s+ purely for the fact that Tarrant would just walk, and go to them in the draft.

People forget quickly just how rubbish Melbourne were this year. Being worried about pick 20 being "overs" is silly, we would be getting an experienced, strong and proven forward who would be a pillar to the team's structure.

Hardly think he is PROVEN.

I'm very happy we have him, but he has had one good year (still only kick 30 goals). He'll be an asset, and will improve. 20 is still overs in my book

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
