Neeld on Insider

Goddard will go to Fremantle if he leaves St. Kilda. Cloke's off to Carlton. Boak's off to Geelong, and Caddy's off to either Essendon or North Melbourne..

I'm forecasting an underwhelming trade period..

theres a certain undeniable logic to all of that. What it says to me is we arent looking at whom Neeld is.

All of these are somewhat linear ideals and I have my thought that Neeld is quite lateral whe it comes to who he wants to do what he deins.

We may all well be quite surpised by who end up lobbing on our doorstep. I cant think who personally.

What we rent privvy to but the club will be is who ( players ) has put feelers out . Everyones looking at the FA list but before FA there was just the field...its sill there.

I fess up. Im fascinated by the lead up to the preseason. Its like a multi dimensional game of chess that morphs as you play

true. It would be tough for them to do a deal. North might be better placed...I'm sure we could do a deal that would satisfy GC if he chose to return to Melbourne, but all reports suggest he has his heart set on Essendon.

Perhaps someone should tell him we have a three game winning streak against them..

well if his heart is set on essendon he is in for some dissapointment, cant see who essendon would give up

Well, I think you're probably right there. The David Mackay offer really came from left field. No-one saw that coming. I thought it was a terrific play, and i'm disappointed he didn't take the offer. I'm sure they're working really hard behind the scenes going after not just free agents, but all manner of uncontracted players, and also players in top sides who are just on the periphery, who could play a role for us..

It will be interesting. No one thought we'd get Mitch Clark, so who knows what might turn up as the trade deadline approaches..

Well, Essendon tried to pull off one of those BigFooty type trades last year for him, by bundling up excess stock in the hopes that GC would be bamboozled by numbers. If we trade 5 of our injury prone duds for your young star...that'll work huh??? I think it involved Hooker and Gumbleton from memory.

GC didn't wan't a bar of it obviously.

Don't be too quick to bag Gumby. He might wind up playing for us next year :D

That's if he doesn't snap in half before trade week. Seriously, he's the kind of character who would get run over by a bus while enjoying a picnic in the Botanical Gardens..

We have enough of those already.

experienced players btter not be more B grade hard working mids. Iv said it once and i will say it again, I will have a fit if we give up draft picks or big coin for B grade midfielders who work hard.

Well, it doesn't mean we can't have a crack.

We got Mitch Clark, so who knows...

Bet you MFC wouldnt get him if he'd watched them play in 2012 first.

How about buildng a team with what they've got,the early draftpicks, plus one or two promising young imports to grow along with the list.

Its crazy I know, but it just might work

At last, someone who is thinking - as long as our recruiters are up to it.

True, but he wouldn't cost all that much, he's not a first choice player at the Bombers, he's had years in the system and he's finally starting to show a bit. I'd give them a third round pick for him quite happily. Maybe thrown in one of our tradeable players as well.

This goes to the heart of it in a way. All this was done almost off the cuff and with simple dumb determination ( dumb in this instance simply meaning blind -faith style ) So given a good time to think about things and plan , who knows who is on the radar.

Trade month & draft day will be busy.

If it aint Cloke is it Goddard??

We have the war chest.....

Well now it seems confirmed that we're not chasing Cloke

Oh No, what will Clarkey do now, all on his lonesome > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cviMM02_ixI

We'll just have ta find some Mids now, won't we? Send out the Lynch Mob ! Pronto. ;)

there is no way caddy is going to essendon they have nothing to give i think our pick 13 would get the deal done

Might be part of a three way deal. Keep Tippett in mind.

On the other hand, could Crows get pick 2 from GC and use it on Grundy?

After reading the many posts on this site and listening to some (a lot) of the media stuff I was getting concerned with how we were looking to rebuild the club.

Listening to Neeld restored a bit of faith that he has the right approach, what that really means is he has an approach that I agree with, let's hope it is the right one. No Cloke as a quick fix, thank ... that was a beat up and use our early draft picks to get the best young talent. If the right player is available then go after him. It's going to be more of a build from within approach with a top up along the way.

I think there will be a fair turnover of our list at the end of the season, up to 10 players could go but I don't think you will see us being as active during the trade period as many do. The draft and list development will be our way forward.

Has David Mackay signed a new conract with Adelaide?

Would love it if we could get him to rotate off half back and through the midfield.

Was thinking we could try and secure him through a three way deal that would of seen Stef Martin go to the filth as has been rumored.

Probably boring when compared to the recruiting discussion about Cloke, Boak, Caddy etc - but it'll be interesting to see who we pick with our rookie selections this year.

Who are the good VFL, SAFL, WAFL players that we might target? For instance, Zorko looks a ripper for the Lions (I know he wasn't a rookie, but he seems to be the type of player that can be unearthed through the rookie draft).

I've heard Mark Hutchings from West Perth is a likely lad (character, ability etc). Others have obviously been mentioned as good rookie prospects too.

I used to find the rookie draft to be a bit 'ho hum' - I now think it's bloody important. Will be interesting this year, and should give another good insight into Neeld's thinking/strategy.

I think it could be a bit ho-hum for us this year Ron.

I wouldn't be suprised if we only pick 2 rookies, being one Clint Bartram and Liam Jurrah.

Bartram to see if he can recover from his knee issue and Liam for his obvious court case in March.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
