Dunn in one who has put his head down in the second half of the season and has shown he is prepeared to work hard and get stuck in. Now, that alone should not guarantee you a spot on a senior AFL list but in our side it leapfrogs him ahead of several others who just coast through games and really give us nothing.

Has earned a reprieve for mine.

I'm really keen to see what the entirety of Demonland thinks. I personally cannot believe anyone thinks that we should be giving Dunn a new contract, but it seems there are plenty who think his last few weeks have earned it, so I really want to know what the general consensus is.

I think we need Dunny at the moment. But in saying that, IMO he is as good as he's going to be.

But i think we need to move others on, so we can't unsettle the place too much. So for me, he gets a 1Yr or 2, & that'll be the end for him after that.

I'm OK to trade him if theres interest, but we need to bring in some mature bodied players to replace some who need fresh pastures.

We do Need change, to facilitate a 'Culture change'.

To me he represents everything that is wrong with the MFC....he is a flat track bully.....plays well against the poor young teams and goes missing against good opposition.

Spends half the game playing for free kicks instead of just getting the ball....

Not to mention he is gutless.....he will pick a fight with the youngest kid on the opposition. I was disgusted when I saw him at 1/4 time against the Suns chesting some of the young sun players and mouthing off..... 1 good quarter against a team of kids.....someone needed to remind him we had only won 2 games at that point. Put ur head down and play the game....

I thought he did okay against Chad Cornes yesterday.

100% Required .... Lynden has alway been played out of position which I believe halted his development as a forward of some type.

Has pace and physicality about him and alway busts his ass. Neeld running him in defense is interstng, I thinking he is testing him down there to see if he can be a run off half back booming kick type players ..... Interesting concept as he does have a great boot on him. Interested on others thoughts on that.

The mind boggles really as the best thing that can be said of him really is he's bad, just not as bad as some. Golly, praise indeed....a real keeper.

Agree. It seems that people are saying we should keep him because there are worse. To me, that's not a reason for keeping him.

I'm also interested to know who goes before him. Bate is one. Morton probably is another. But after that, I think Dunn is as good a candidate as any to go.

You're wrong, so here's the correction... What I believe is being said is that NO team has 22 superstars, not even Geelong or Hawthorn. If you ranked the players from 1-22 you would have players who would be listed as the last 6, doesn't mean they are bad players, just means they're not the best, it's really not that hard to understand when you take off your Dunn hate goggles...

Well of course a team has a bottom 6. The fact that Dunn is in the bottom 6 is surely reason to question him, given he's been on the list for so long.

Your only reason for keeping him seems to be that every team has a bottom 6. That's such a bad argument that it's not funny. I'd rather our bottom 6 be players who are young and showing signs of improvement. Dunn hasn't improved in 4 years, at least.

Good point deestar. The defence of the Daniher teams were always undersized but they had dash (Brown, Biz, Whelan, Yze). The defence of the last few years has better size but not great delivery. If we have Grimes playing more in the mid, then we really need another defender with a good kick to complement Frawley and Watts. Garland, Rivers and Tom Mac are solid defenders but hardly strong with disposal.

I say no. If he's to stay, then he will either be given a two year deal (very generous and while not quite Newton-ensue, would have Demonland in meltdown early in 2014), or a one year deal, in which case I wonder what the point would be. An extra senior body in a young side in 2013? Wait and see how he goes in a settled position for a year (in his 9th season)? I'm not going to tear my hair out if he's re-signed but I wouldn't keep him.

Part of my patience with Neeld is based on the need for him to completely overhaul the list, gameplan and culture of the place. That includes a huge cull of the list at season's end and holding onto guys who may come good after 8 years is just pointless when we're nowhere near a flag

He's one of about 3 players on the list that has kicking skills above the poverty line , so should stay.

Has been pretty much our best player over the last month, and should be rewarded with a 1 or 2 year contract.

Bate, Bail, Moloney, Fitzpatrick, Petterd and Sellar should be thrown out the door before Dunn.

Bail and Sellar are better than Dunn.

If we're basing things on the last three weeks, Sellar's efforts have been just as good as Dunn's, and he's been kicking goals in the forward line. Moreover, before he got injured he was playing a good role in defence and freeing up Garland and Rivers to go forward. I see no discernible difference between what Sellar offers and what Dunn offers, except that Sellar is a KPP whereas Dunn is a mid (works in Sellar's favour).

Bail cops a lot on this site, but I think, just like what people say of Dunn, he works hard and plays his role. Apparently that's good enough when you've been on the list for 8 years instead of 4.

I think he should be offered a year at this stage. He's not our best, but he's responded to the call, gritted his teeth and got on with it. A year's contract will show whether he's just put the effort in to get another contract or whether he has started to get the best out of himself.

By the way, I also think Joel Macdonald should be given another year.

You see, this is where I have trouble. If this is his best, that's not worth it. Surely. I mean, he's been here for so long now, if what he's giving us now is his best, why keep him? There's no upside if this is his best, and if it's not, when will we ever see it?

I know I sound like a broken record on this, so ignore me if you want, but I am honestly flabbergasted at the level of support for a player who, in all fairness, has gone nowhere in the last few years, and who just two years ago did the exact same thing he's doing now (played some reasonable games late in the year, sucked in the FD, got a new contract, and didn't improve beyond that, even regressing). And at the same time, people want to kick Rohan Bail out the door, despite him having had half the time Dunn's had to show his worth (not necessarily you, I'm just saying).

Has shaved off the mo so he stays. He is not a great player, but who is in our side. He can do a job, kick a goal, shut a player down and is not our worst. He also has experience. I would give him another year. There are plenty to go before him.

spot on. good depth, can kick

Really? Name them. I don't think there are as many as people think, if you compare them to Dunn.

Morton

Bail

Evans

Bennell

Bartram

Ricky P

Spencer

Green (ret)

Davey (should ret)

Moloney (should trade)

Evans doesn't count, he's a rookie. Green too, as a veteran.

Agree re: Morton, Petterd, and Bennell, and I'll thrown in Bate too. They're all gone, surely. Disagree re: Bail, unsure on Spencer, as he seems to be offering something and ruckman are scarce, and I have no idea where Bartram's at with his rehab but I think I'd prefer a hobbled Bartram to a fit Dunn anyway.

Anyway, point is, I don't think Dunn is in front of anyone except the three I mentioned, and even if he is, we need to clean the list out.

when the list is cleaned we still need some big bodies. If Dunn goes who replaces him. Ready to play. If we trade him what is acceptable? We don't need more skinny 18 year olds as a trade.

Anyone that thinks he will not be around next year are deluding themselves,

He does what the coach asks of him,

this group of players play better when he and his aggression real or otherwise are on the field,

Will he be around when we play finals again probably not, but he has improved unlike some who were about the same level 6-10 months ago,

Go Dees a win again, another next week would be nice for Greeny

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
