Jake Stringer

Dr. Mubutu

There is another write up about him today. I think on the afl site. Talks a bit about his injury. If someone could find the link and post??

Here it is.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/150045/default.aspx

Just for some more substance. Midfielder/Forward. He's not a key position forward, He's bollocking forward. Strong, bursting pace. Can find the ball, so they throw him in the midfield, the ball comes to him and he bursts a couple of tackles and then boom! into the forward line. Has good skills as well.

He basically shouldn't have played this year because he had a Barlow type injury. But, professional, persistent, willing to face his fears and run through pain he did. Will be better next year and will be a dynamo barring injury in the future.

Personally I think he'll be picked up by the Dogs with either 5 or 6. They are in the frame for a young and tough player like Stringer.

Would be dreaming if he slipped to 20 and too early for 4. Still reckon Wines is our man.

In the article it mentions that he still limps a bit from the broken leg...

This raises massive question marks on his long term viability.

I think he is going to slide MASSIVELY, and will be a huge bargain in the 2nd round for whoever gets him as long as his leg holds up

I would rather take the punt on menzel if talented forwards with leg issues is on the agenda

If the Dogs get him then we had the ability to get him first.

This is confusing.

We seem to have dismissed Stringer without thought yet the very same supporters believe the Bulldogs will snap him up one or two picks later?

In addition everyone believes Stringer will be a bargain after our pick 4. What's up with that? Why don't WE take him then?

There's doubt over Wines' kicking yet Stringer nailed the kicking tests at the Draft Combine.

Nothing adds up here.

I'm pretty sure that Stringer has trained with the Dogs and they were very impressed, so it is likely that he will go with pick 5 or 6.

  • 4 years later...

There were a few rumblings in the media that he would be traded at the end of the year. The Michael Walters thread prompted this thought bubble. Would we be interested in him? He's an upgrade on Kent and could really blossom with actual key forwards surrounding him, letting him be a high half forward or deeper goal sneak.

Perhaps Mitch Hannan is the next 2015/16 Jake Stringer and we won't need to bother with drafting another forward and Stringer will fizzle out back to the suburban leagues.

We wouldn't be MFC if we used pick 4 on a player that delivered...... Stringer looks like he actually might be a good pick up..... So it's a big no way from us.....

Update.

Good get from Tatu - we picked the Toump.

However, 2015 draft, pick 4 Melbourne: C. Oliver.

Another addition to the "when do we break these embarrassing records" thread. Thankfully.

(This because we bid on a certain Callum Mills with pick 3).

I think he's been figured out by the system. In the modern game you've got to have multiple strings to your bow to be an A grader, with the absolute 'must' have being hard work. His last 18 months have been really, really average for a guy with his abilities and it seems to add up to clubs consistently knowing what to do to keep him out of games.

If they wanted a straight swap for Buggy I'd at least hear them out though ?
