What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is an honest to god FOOTBALLER. Yes, you heard it. A footballer at the MFC. He can mark it, he can kick it AND (now this is key) he will bloody shepherd for you once he gives you the ball.

I'll admit up front that I didn't see today's game (engaging in my own sporting exploits, don't have foxtel), as such I take it as given that he played well today

I love watching him play as much as the rest posting on this thread, but i cannot let the 'good kick' comment through to the keeper. I went to both corporate dome games as well as the tiges match and his kicking was borderline shambolic in all 3. I'm sure it wasn't always this way, and have memories of him being actually quite good by foot (both set shots and around the ground), so he will hopefully turn it aroundsooner rather than later

NB my favourite Howe moment still remains the uncontested hanger over nobody in the pocket against the Giants, pure gold.

Possibly.

I've never really watched video of myself so it's hard to say.

Can take a hanger too. Very nice. I'd love to see him, Clark and Jurrah all fit and firing in the forward line, although I'm worried that Clark is going to kill a few of his team-mates unlucky enough to drift into his path next year. Can someone allay my concerns in that regard?

Also, add Cloke and we go from the worst forward line in years (ie the one we fielded today) to perhaps our best ever.

we won't get Cloke and as far as l'm concerned he is overrated, 1 million a year, you've got to be kidding. Get Josh Caddy and Travis Boak for that price, 650 to Boak and 350 to Caddy.

Now that forward line would get the kids putting on Demons jumpers again.

Went to a park in North Perth today and b#gger me, came across a kid no more than 4 in the full Melbourne strip!

From the article Middle men see Dees home:

Sylvia laughed when Howe was mentioned. He's becoming that sort of player that brings a smile to everyone's face. "As soon as we see Jeremy Howe one-on-one we just kick it to him and know he is going to take the grab," Sylvia said.

Having a teammate that you can just implicitly trust to take the grab must be invaluable.

I hope his development continues. I worry though that he is going to seriously injure himself one day. Tends to take the big leap all too often and he is not a power forward. I woud like to see him develop his skills for a more mobile lead up game.

On SEN yesterday they mentioned a number of times that he'd taken the fifth most contested marks in the AFL this year*. But I wouldn't say he's the best ever. I'd certainly have Wayne Carey and Jonathon Brown ahead of him. But I'm very happy with what I see out there.

I recall in Dean Bailey's first game as coach we had one contested mark for the whole game (Kyle Cheney). How the gameplan has changed!

*SEN didn't say who the four above him are. My guess: Pavlich, Hawkins, maybe Roughead (Hawthorn's, of course) and J Brown?

Could well be one of the best recruits we've had in the last 5 years at this rate. Kid is a gun

I reckon he is right now Hatchman and we have not had to wait 3-4 years for him to mature, put on weight, grow into his frame or all the other bull--it.

Was a goer from his first game

Yep, went out and watched him in the Casey game before he came up and looked the goods then, so did a young guy called Tommy Mc. had to ask a lady with a record out at Werribee, who is number???? think it was 74.

Another poster mentioned Paul Vander Haar and I agree. Howe has a way to go to catch the Flying Dutchman. I'm only talking "speccies" here, but I loved watching Trevor Barker, Knights and Modra for their marking exploits. Howe has every opportunity to be rated alongside, or better by the end of his career.

And I don't agree with the poster who said Ablett got higher.

(but yeah, Portland was just that little too far from the G. Now its 20 minutes via the Eastern freeway)

Guest José Mourinho

The next step is to have teammates that you implicitly trust to shepherd, tackle and spread hard.

I think that might also describe Howe, funnily enough.

Neeld could have taken the easy step after seeing Howe's marking ability and just thrown him forward and keep him there for his career. Good on Neeld for trying to make him into more then a highlight reel.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
