On the Couch - Brock talks about 'tanking'

JR I won't yell at you

But I do share the sentiment.

We are irrelevant in 2012 and have been since the first couple of games.

2013 will be similar, any one that thinks with our list we will win more than a hand full of games next year is ignoring reality.

It is time that a number of people involved with the management of MFC either stood down or were asked to leave.

Over the last 4 years they have bought us to this point.

We are the laughing stock of the league.

Drastic situations deserve drastic action.

No worries old dee, we always have a good debate....but....

Everyone knows this club is down at the moment and so let's pick on a soft target. Horrific injuries, poor list and poor selections have taken us backwards.

Do you think that Neeld doesn't know all this? What about the scrutiny on Richmond? Best midfield ever and still can't make it? Voss? Tries to buy a flag but takes the club backwards 5 years by recruiting Fevola. Western Bulldogs? That's right, Western who?

Sheahan, Roos and Healy are irrelevant.

Indeed. What is McLean doing on the show? He is not in Carlton's best 22 (up until last week or so, maybe). Can only be to give him media time to visit the MFC history.

Did you watch the game on the weekend? He kicked the winning goal. He's on because he's an interesting story about how football styles come in and out of fashion.

Stop trying to distract from the fact that what he said was right and what the club did has left us in a poor position in terms of culture and pride.

Hope it does. But I have no confidence in the club to get it right, and even if you add a Judd and a Dangerfield to the list, it doesn't change the huge cultural issues at the club.

But then ... why didn't tanking affect Carlton, West Coast, Collingwood or Hawthorn's culture in such a way.

Unfortunately there are no simplistic conclusions in this matter.

One of the myriad of reasons Cameron Schwab should get the lemonade and sass....... this was his blue print - and he had a masssive influence on both tanking and the recruiting strategy of outside runners instead of the footballers (like geelong and collingwood) - also overseen appointment of last two lemmings (aka coaches).

Blame schwab.... get a life we dont know if any of this is even true mate

Who could forget the round 22 game known as the Kruzer cup. When Carlton let Travis Jognstone run free and he got 40 possies. That was tanking. It cant be investigated because everyone will just deny it. The AFL have already knocked this on the head.

I think this club and mark neeld has been through enough this season. Let it go.

agree %100 and if i ever ever hear of mclean , referred to as brock again go sign up with i will chunder , fair dinkum the dog is a traitor and a basket case , yet there are those in here who want the [censored] back , ! well f@#k you are soft , go sign up with the cardboards , [censored] off , who needs supporters like you , , weak as water , how about stickin fat with us , ? if not go away , dog bum sniffers , , grrr im [censored] off !

Makes me wonder when everyone who hates the administration will have the balls to do something about it rather than just complaining endlessly on forums. If the board goes up uncontested and the AGM features one person asking a half-angry question again then I'm never taking any "sack the board/CEO/etc" posts seriously again.

I go to school and still whack off to Spankwire videos, so clearly I'm not qualified.

But I well and truly hope Schwab gets executed when the time comes.

I never said tanking was the sole reason for the cultural issues, I said it was one of a myriad of reasons. Many of which, clubs like Hawthorn and West Coast don't have. I agree it is definitely not as simple as just saying we tanked, now we have a shitty culture.

JR the problem is we were crap before all the injuries.

Now I will admit the injuries have not helped but I seriously doubt the we would have won more than a couple of extra games with no injuries.

We have one genuine win against a team that you can be fairly confident is not top eight quality.

At least Neeld is finally trying to introduce a hard edged, competitive, disciplined, professional culture into this club.

Got a suit of armour or an invisibility cloak handy ? lol

People need to acknowledge that we don't know if the tanking was worth it or not because we haven't yet seen the fruit of the Scully compo picks.

It's been 6 years since we played finals. If it weren't for the brand new expansion teams we would be bottom of the ladder. Again. I have never been more ashamed to be a Melbourne supporter.

He kicked the match winning goal that kept Carlton's season alive. He's been Carlton's best player the last 5 weeks. In the absence of Judd he has stepped up and carried the team, playing some fantastic footy, better than any of our players.

Yeah, good on you brocky! I remember when our coach had the nerve to play Garland and Rivers in the forward line! Can you believe that? Or when he dropped our reigning B & F winner! What a tankapalooza! Or when he threw Magner into the forward line! Ha! Lynden Dunn in the backline, Matthew Bate getting a game, drafting James Sellar, etc etc etc. I demand a full and thorough investigation.

Jt He has been the GM through almost all of this unmitigated disaster.

When and where does the buck eventually stop.

Somewhere some time some one has to shoulder the blame.

I know the administration isn't out there playing at the G, or pulling match day moves, but they have now been in charge of 4 disastrous years of footy. What blame do they get?

I always found it odd that Connolly was suddenly silenced. Never to be heard or seen again. The rumblings about him were loud. And negative. Same goes for Schwab, who was out the door until 186 happened.

I'm not about to run for election here (sorry to disappoint!), but I certainly would like to see an amicable push for change at the top.

Jim did what he had to do to save us from death, and I will forever love him for that, but the rest of the men who came with him should now be accountable for what is happening not just off, but also on the field. They, after all, chose both footy departments.

Don't remember McLean being flagged as the guest this week, do you?

My guess? his manager (Ricky?) offered him up as a juicy interviewee, especially considering his patch of good form. His last chance of pay day! Ratten was less than glowing as a reference.

No, it's a by product, and again your not actually making an argument that says what he said was incorrect. All your doing is saying 'why is he even on?'.

I'd argue that the 30+ posts on this site alone in the last 45 minutes prove that the story is relevant and you can stick your head in the sand as long as you want but the problems not going away.

Lets not rewrite history. There is one reason and one reason only why Brock went to Carlton, we refused to give him a 3 year contact at $400000.00 per year. Carlton gave it to him and we wouldn't. He had come off another injury and his form wasn't great. That's right, hard to believe when a club like Carlton is involved, they gave him the money and he left. They offered us pick 11 and we grabbed it. Now lets not say it was for any other reason as if we had antied up the dollars he would have stayed.

PS. On another note I think Sheahan's constant criticism of us and his description of the "club" as pathetic and disgraceful is the worst piece of journalism ever seen and he should be ashamed of himself. I go further, I would publicly state that he is not welcome and to hell with the consequences.

Correct. I don't question what he said (just wondering why he said it now, this week).

No question the MFC was seeking the compensation pick.

We are not the first club to do so by a long way. FWIW, if carlton hadn't scored Judd by a fraudulent deal outside the salary cap, I reckon they would be at the arse end of the ladder now.

Ed. FWIW I rate McLean as a straight up guy/player. gave $10k to the club debt reduction FFS. BUT, he won't be at carlton next year, none the less. :o

We cannot compete with the top 8 teams....yet!

The draft will be bloody important, but so will another preseason where players will need to step up or get out.

Jonesy is responding, Howe is responding, Tommy Mac is responding, Chip has been unbelievable this year (considering all the inside 50s!) Watts has developed poise and has become a leader down back, Blease is a lot of fun and the two skips will work out.

Our job is not to white ant, but to support.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
