In Watts Tynan Gysberts Morton Petterd Fitzpatrick

l think we might get beaten by them, there playing better than us at the moment.

In :-

Watts (if fit - to play down back)

Gys (Class link player we need)

Morton (play for rest of the season & tell him he's playing for spot on the list - & we need the outside run)

Out :-

Dunn (can't play key defence - too stupid and unreliable)

Jetta (think he'll get a week with a guilty plea)

Spencer (better off letting Martin ruck solo with relief from Sellar)

Agree with you about Jetta, stupid thing to do. On the other hand I thought that Martin was totally ineffectual yesterday.

Dunn, no value he's like a spoilt brat when he gets beaten, which is quite often; no self control just lashes out like an idiot.

Probably because he's not going to be dropped by Neeld when he's captain. Also I thought he was serviceable yesterday, plenty more needed from him though.

Out: Jetta (sus), Bail, Joel Macdonald/Sellar, Dunn

Ins: Gysberts, Couch, Watts, Morton

Watts is a no brainer if fit. I think it's about time Gysberts got a game, his talent is unquestioned and he's been in the bests for long enough now, he's earnt a recall. Morton should be given a last ditch chance to salvage his career with Melbourne, and it really costs us nothing. If he goes long and direct with his kicking he looks ok, the moment he starts to get cute that's when he gets in trouble. Couch has gone back to the VFL and seemingly done what he needed to go, I want to see him get another chance.

On match ups, I want us to send Jordie to perhaps Bennell, fact is Ablett is likely todo as he pleases no matter who we put on him, no make sure he's a lone soldier.

i am still furious with Ryan Ferguson who cost us Sewell by refusing to go to Hawthorn. We should have threatened him with "you will never play another senior game for us if you don't go". We were weak.

Might as well have. Sylvia crashed a pack for a mark; Ferguson was his only casualty- out for 8? weeks, never to fire a shot again. Actually, I liked ferguson; fearless - then there's Sylvia :(.

Folks should get used to the co-captains and the leadership group being "safe" from being dropped or de-listed. Won't happen.

In: 1. 2nd efforts (Kangas showed up our lack of the contest), 2. a fwd that stays within 50 metre arc as a target (like the simpson desert at times, players were in the centre and had to stop as there was no one ahead), 3. centres clearances (we were smashed)

Out: 1. sideways/backwards kicks 2. Jetta, as slow as the fox glacier 3. going wide, then wider (use the corridor, we did it 5-6 and got goals from most)

I have almost zero knowledge of the Suns' forward line.

Is there a match up for Sellar?

If not, I don't know if he is worth including as he doesn't offer much else.

Disagree

6 or 7 years ago it was "when sylvia, bate, dunn, johnstone and mclean get games under there belt we will be unstopable"

2 or 3 years ago it was "when trengrove, watts, straus, blease, cook get games bla bla bla"

now its "when viney, toumpas, grundy whoever get games"

Seems to be a common denominator here... hmmmm...

It's frustrating, but that's just life for a Melbourne supporter; Look forward to the draft, because one day we'll hit it rich!

Look we have deficiencies- and the only way to fix them is to draft right. Fact of life. A win against a lowly team does nothing for culture. I'm all for wins- a win against a top team and a few competitive efforts against strong teams to end the season would be a perfect springboard into next season, and if this were to happen I wouldn't mind having to use a top pick on Viney and missing out on getting an extra highly touted junior, because it would mean we are on the right track- but we are not.

We will be convincingly beaten by all teams pushing for the 8, and we need every extra leg-up we can be awarded come draft time. For this reason I will be [censored] with a meaningless win against gold Coast, it will prove nothing and improve our position nought. It will be counter-productive even. You are basically giving up what could potentially be a 10 year- 200 game gun, for 4 meaningless points.

I was thinking the same thing. That handpass to the sniping whinger Harvey was dreadful. Another by way of an errant pass. I wonder if he needs a "rest".

Anyone who thinks Morton should come in should look at the Frankston game. Then read Clint Bizkits appraisal elsewhere in game thread. Then put that into context with the contested possesion count in the North game! A stat which shows we were slaughtered!

So some want to put a bloke in who is so far outside i.e uncontested you need a telescope to see him to address our inside contested possesion problem??

The game aint won with outside runners, but with inside grunters who run and carry!

Get Real!

My Inns: Fitzpatrick, Gysberts, Couch ( wouldn't have dropped him in the first place) and Watts

Outs : Seller , Dunne, Strauss, Spencer

That's for a start

I was at the game and this is unmitigated crap. I know he's a soft target for everybody, but he did put his body on the line on a number of occasions, especially when he was running on the wing and knew someone was coming the other way. He's lost me too, because of his decision making and turnovers, but he played a decent game at Frankston.

Unlike others I think this week's team selections will be fascinating. We've a month of the season to go, there will be major changes at season's end, we've got players such as Morton and Gysberts coming off good games and we're up against the Gold Coast at home. Chatting to my Brother today and he's convinced that if Morton and Gysberts are not selected for this game then you won't see them at the club next year. I think he's right. If you're not going to play these two players now they're definitely not in your future plans.

I like Gysberts, always have. His first games were really promising, run, carry, spread, fearless and with a touch of class.

Since that time he has had a frustrating run with some serious injuries. I thought his game on the weekend displayed a solid return to form and fitness.

I would find it astounding if he were overlooked again and would question the logic of selection.

On the other hand we have Morton. Morton did some nice things as he does, but in reality it all comes back to his appetite for contested ball. He gives the impression he is apprehensive about having to get his own ball and as long as he continues to have lingering doubts, I believe the selectors will also have "Lingering doubts". I think his progress hasn't only halted but has in fact deteriorated because of this single factor. The game at this level is minutely dissected. Opposition analysts sieze on every weakness and will plot relentlessly to expose players and their inabilities. I believe Morton has well and trully been nutted out. Until he is able to lose apprehension he will, I believe stay at Casey. I saw one very poor effort which cost a goal. And remember this is Frankston perrenial VFL cellar dwellers. Nup not up to it, Yet!! Equally I will be astounded if he is included this week! Having said that anything's possible!

If you are thinking of the intercepted handpass just after Trengove slipped almost flat on his face, you are a hard man. Find examples where he was under less pressure - I expect there are some.

Don't see why JT would be dropped. I think he played okay on Saturday.

Don't care who plays this week, I will be there and support but this year has smashed me to the point of not caring anymore.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
