Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

A very well summed up analysis of where the club sits RB. I would love more supporters to be able to see this. i am encouraged by the change in attitude with the playing group. yeah the skills are ordinary and the team is playing like [censored] but they are playing a hard accountable brand of footy. the rest will change with some good drafting and recruiting.

tsk, who let you back in? Something screwy going on with the ban function on this forum.

My ban list has just increased by 100% - from one to two; see ya Jackie, have really enjoyed your constructive, intelligent contributions.

Malthouse also rated our list very highly... There's some rooted reality for you!

Here's some reality for you, stuie.

Malthouse would know Neeld's ability far better than any sideline observation he may have once held of MFC's list.

And I expect any positive views he MAY once have held were based on some of our 2010 performances, rather than those we were dishing out in 2011. Hard, for instance, for any reasonable observer to think our list is the future of the game after being belted by 31 goals at Geelong only one year ago.

I also expect Malthouse no longer holds that view of MFC's list. I strongly suspect he still rates Neeld though.

Just starting to wonder if Malthouse's recommendation was some sort of backhander. In some organisations its best to remove someone not quite up to it by giving them a good referral for another job just to get rid of them.

Do you believe the moon landing actually occurred Jackie?

the last thing I wish to is create further division odr disharmony on the site .We have relatively so few menbers that those who have remain should be commended and stick together .However, ,can anyone provide me with some tangible or measurable evidence that we have made any progress in any area with Neeld and his assistants .We have had B and K winners in Green ,Davey and Moloney playing in the ressies and duds like Magner ,Couch and Spencer playing seniors .We have had first round draft choices like Morton and Watts playing in the ressies and last round picks like Bail and

Mckenzie playing for Firsts .Its like an episode of Seinfeld .I expected that the back half of the season would see a marked improvement but that has not happened .We were terrible in the first NAB cup loss to the Suns and we were terrible against Port in Darwin and pretty much in all points in between .How can you not point the finger at the coaching staff ?The defence panics ,the forward line is motionless and the midfield has no regard for their opponents .Neeld aside ,how can Rawlings ,The Anvil and Royal say that they have achieved anyting ?.Perhaos rather than talkink in terms of the club reviewing Neelds position ,he should review it himself .

Some serious face palming happening here whilst im reading through this.

Jackie effing lol at some of your post.

To the others who are calling for Neelds head just rancho relaxo, Melbournes list stinks, you can thank Daniher and Bailey for that. Im assuming Neeld wouldnt even look twice at some of our players if he had the chance.

So sit back, try and get some joy out of the rest of the season because in reality we arent going to be winning too many games, maybe 1-2. We will get some draft picks and hopefully use them well. Thats the reality of it all, there are no quick fixes unfortunately, just look at richmond. They stuffed up their recruiting mid 2000s but finally got it right, unfortunately we are the new richmond.

Malthouse took over from a struggling T.Shaw at Collingwood. Within a very short period of time, he took an average playing list to Grand Finalists for 2 consecutive years.

P.Roos took over a poor performing Swans outfit and turned them into Premiers within a short period aswell. Both team lists were average, but these coaches had the ability to turn average teams into champion teams.

And, they didn't need to bottom out, they just starting winning, and developed a winning culture almost immediately.

We want a winning culture. And if that means win win half of our games instead of 10% of our games, surely it is a better outcome.

And to answer your question, I would have selected Sheedy over Bailey, and later Malthouse over Neeld.

I am dissapointed that the club gambled our future on unproven coaches. Nobody in their right mind would second guess Sheedy or Malthouse, they are tried, tested and proven performers, 2 of the best coaches of all time.

This is probably why I am so impatient with Neeld. There are better candiates waiting in the stands that if selected, will allow us to have a better crack at the premiership in a quicker period of time.

So, we remain patient and continue the gamble with Neeld or we move decisively and hire Malthouse or Roos.

NB. I would have picked Mathews over both of them, however he was either unavailable or unmotivated.

SHEEDS IS DOING GREAT STUFF AT THE MOMENT ISN'T HE.

If things were how you thought then surely Jose would be in charge of recruiting, Rhino as CEO, and WYL would be our motivational coach...

Come on mate, don't over rate this place.

Sure. I will fire up these cream puff choir boys....when do we start??

Haha.

I find it somewhat ironic that when Bailey took over, the playing list he inherited was incapable of playing his gameplan. It was a squad trained to play a slow, long kicking, contested style of football who couldn't execute the run and carry style Bailey wanted. But over time the list turned over and those remaining from the old days plus the new guys gradually adopted the Bailey style. Nevertheless, it didn't ultimately succeed and some would say it was destined never to do so because the style had become outdated. (Not sure I agree with that last point - ie, that it was outdated - but it's now academic anyway).

Exit Bailey and enter Neeld who has inherited a playing list incapable of playing his gameplan which appears to be a slow, long kicking, contested style of football.

I don't think the playing list is as bad as it looks - it's just not yet capable of playing the Neeld gameplan. Will it ever? Probably. The squad needs to be fitter and stronger and it needs to be able to play the gameplan intuitively. Some of the current stock can do it now and some over time will be able to do so. And some won't because they are either not skilled enough, not interested or just not suited to the style - and those players will move on.

But to criticise Neeld for the onfield performance going backwards this year is just silly. He has a long term plan. I imagine he expected a better performance than he's got, but it's always been about changing for the future rather than expecting success in the now.

Neeld has up until round 10 next year to improve this side otherwise there is no way his contract will be extended.

What KPI's would you measure improvement at Round 10 ?3 wins ? 4 wins ? 5 wins ? 85+ % ?

It's also a fantastically hilarious deadline to give for Neeld to earn an extension, since he'll still be contracted for the rest of the 2013 season and the 2014 season after that.

A coach on his first contract like Neeld, who is respected by ppl who actually know what they're talking about, will at the very least see out his first 3 year contract.

There is no doubt of that.

Wasn't having a dig at you Jose, just thought it's a bit naive to think contracts are always seen through...

I don't agree with the OP, setting a deadline is really silly, and I hope Neeld sees out at least the 3 years, but there's no doubt there'll be rumblings this time next year if we've only won 2-3 games again, that's how football works.

How many more 10 goals losses will it take before Neeld is held responsible?

He has absolutely no idea how to stop this weekly mauling.

I will reiterate... If we are in the same pathetic situation next year then there no way that Neeld will be allowed to stay on for a third term.

Its unfortunate & unfair for Neeld who has inherited a poor list from the crap draft selections since 07. When you look at other players from same drafts they are far more advanced. We suffer from speed & the ability to cut thru the lines & spread quickly.

The problem the club faces is how long can supporters put up with getting flogged each week? Maybe Neeld is not the right coach for this list & were it needs to get to. Not saying he cant coach but maybe in a more advanced list he would do better? I can see another coach getting the flick if results continue the same way in yr2. Many high end supporters have sunk millions into saving & clearing the debt. Dont agree with it but a reality of life that emotions come into it & the rumbling starts.

15 more games Neeld...

The jungle drums has begun to beat.

This time next year the board will have your cards marked

Do we have to argue this every week? Can we wait until Neeld has the team he wants, the team that he can coach, the team that is capable of playing a elite brand of football?

Seriously do you rate our players that much? How many flags should we have under this list?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
