Nobody's questioning the welfare of the victim or expressing a lack of concern for him or that he wasn't injured in an incident which took place that night but the case is about whether Liam is guilty of assaulting him and others. As I understand it, Liam will be pleading not guilty to all charges.

Yes but is the other bloke ok ? My question was about his medical and psychological condition, not about anybodys guilt. I know Liam's being taken care of by Bruce and a battery of lawyers but what about the other bloke.

If you're asking whether he's being given the same legal support as Jurrah, then I only have this answer: He doesn't play footy for an AFL club, so I doubt he's getting much help from lawyers.

From the persepctive of a Melbourne supporter I hope he gets off but if he bashed someone in the head with a machete (or a nulla nulla) then he deserves whatever anyone else in that situation would get. Those type of assaults in particular can't be condoned no matter who did it.

You are obviously very fortunate that you have not been in a situation where you have to protect your family or live in a community similar to a war zone.

Wish all and sundry the best - in this situation. We hope you get a fair hearing and if so,Liam you will come of fine.

What is known is Jurrah left his home town at 20 years old with no record to speak of, which is rare based on what has been written.

He has been dragged into the dispute subsequently, possibly because he had to take a side and therefore became a target as has been reported. The whole situation is a complicated mess. I wish everyone in the community well, not just Liam.

The sad thing is the footy oval has been abandoned; a proud footy town no longer hosts matches. Just think of all the potential players that will miss their chance to shine, the kids in the town that might not ever get the chance Liam has due to the unrest.

Just wondering, is three days a long time for a committal hearing? I always thought they were relatively short?

Liam has been charged with a criminal offence: as far as I know "the other bloke" hasn't, therefore will not get or require legal representation.

I'm sure he could get some sort of civil suit together for assault and whatnot.

That would surely need to wait until the criminal charges are either pursued or thrown out.

except the alleged victim in this case wants a 'tribal' law outcome not a civil compensation trial

a spear in the leg rather than a bunch of dollars

Please. I appreciate the problems there but can't excuse drunkenly bashing someone in the head with a machete as has been alleged. Culture is no excuse just as it is no excuse for the neanderthals who stone teenage girls to death in the middle east.

There was just a little update on Channel 7 news about the hearing.

Strong police presence to keep things under control, but it's only been Jurrah supporters that have come and all have been calm.

In good news (I'm no legal expert, so I'm guessing it is), they've had to adjourn briefly as the witnesses for the prosecution have not shown up.

I would have thought that this kind of thing goes without saying. Am I also fortunate to have running water and live in democracy? Thanks for the insight.

6 stitches, does that suggest anything at all?

To condemn a person whilst not comprehending the total situation, would be just Ignorance.

I wish Liam all the best of luck in the court case, But also with his families issues.

Anyone else think this thread could/should be locked until after the hearing to avoid any unneccesary speculation?

I wish him well, & Good Luck.

it's a sorry tale for Liam to be in the middle of this mess.

I sincerely hope no more Violence comes from this feud.

Nobody here really knows how remote indigenous communities operate. There laws and beliefs are different to ours, they have even had white law forced on them. White law was in a sense an apartheid, illegal and probably exaserbated the problems indigenous people face.

I think it is good to have somewhere to stay updated on the trial. But couldn't blame moderators if they get sick of trawling through the thread and removing all the shite.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
