Dempsey played on

Recommended Posts

I enjoyed watching Hurley demonstrate that although he's a good honest bang-crasher, our Wattsy is in another league skills and talent wise and will totally eclipse him when both of their careers are measured up.

Hurley had 4 tackles tonight, his highest count for the year. Prior to this game he had totalled FOUR TACKLES FOR THE WHOLE SEASON!!

Fascinating stat that huh? He likes body contact, but doesn't tackle enough. Interesting. Very interesting.

I think it's grossly unfair that Watts cops his share of scrutiny yet Hurley seems to escape the magnifying glass.

Is it because he plays for the media darlings' Bombers? Because Brereton and Lloyd and these types of former players love his bang-crash attitude?

But what do the stats actually say? How many very good games has he actually played so far?

Not saying he's not going to turn out be a handy player for them ... but so far I think there's more than a bit of myth about the 'greatness' of Michael Hurley.

Aha!!

Essendon and Carlton have both lost.

That only leaves a Collingwood loss to create the perfect long weekend!

It's up to us!

ps....I don't mind Richmond losing,either!

Cold pies on a monday....interesting, very interesting!

There's no way Dempsey would have made the distance from there. Total non-issue. I turned the game off after half-time cause I thought the Swans would have a Rompingwin. Looks like I missed out on a cracker of a game.

Bombers haven't won a game in June in 2012 (yet), 2011 and 2010. We kick started started their winter of discontent. Think they've got a bye and don't know who after. Thanks to Cats and Swans for a great weekend so far.

Dempsey had to play on from 55m out at the end of a hard game. It was the only way his team could score to win the game. They lost it because they were wasteful for three quarters before they got their radar working. Surely, 78 inside 50s must be a record for a losing team in the modern game?

They were rabbiting on about him all night, both he and the Swans Reid are going to be superstars; at the time they were saying that the pair of them had about 15 possessions and 2 goals (both too Reid) and it was near the end of the third quarter.

I think some get carried away by him crashing in to people and splitting packs; didn't Brad Miller do that early on, he kicks like Miller, come to think of it.

I think you'll find that players that have the crash bang approach don't last too long in football, Brereton was finished at 28.

Ling mentioned on the coverage last night that no team has ever lost with over 70 inside 50's. He said the highest was 67, so a nice record for the Bombers.

Hurley's not the brightest - he can't do more than 2 things at once so once he's crashed or bashed he can't tackle, if he starts tackling he'll lose his crash and bash

Come to think of it, there was similar excitement around Miller early in his career also. The excitement around Hurley, just like Miller, is is around his potential not what he has actually produced. Here's hoping the media will work him out soon enough too.

It is unfair.

Unfortunately, first impressions are hard to shake.

Watts was a young kid way out of his depth. Hurley imposed himself with his bigger body kicked a few timely goals and got a back page article labelled 'NEXT BIG THING'

Once some of the media have labeled you awesome the rest of the sheep will follow and it takes ages to change that constantly reinforced view.

I've said it many times. Hurley is hugely overrated. It's not that he is no good. Far from it. It's simply that his reputation got blown so far out of control from an early stage.

In saying that, he has had niggling injuries over the last few years. He is better than he is currently playing.

I don't know why, but I don't hate the Bombers any more.

I loathed them a decade ago, but now my hatred is directed squarely at Carlton - Mitch Robinson in particular, a lethal combination of ignorance and arrogance rolled into an ugly human phenotype.

I thought the Bombers deserved to win last night. That said, I'm thoroughly ambivalent about the result though.

I also wasn't absolutely convinced that Dempsey shouldn't have been able to have a set shot following the siren.

He clearly played on, it was just horrible timing. Siren sounds a little earlier, he has the set shot. A little later and he gets the kick from his play on.

They were 47 points down at 3 quarter time, they were never going to win it - a great comeback nonetheless.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
