Dunn again? Bate was sub for both games, I hope he gets a full game this week.

We need to be realistic - Ricky Pettard has been a massive disappointment for the past two years.

He has to prove himself or The Suns beckon.

Can't tell if serious...

Hope to see him play forward. This whole Bate in the midfield experiment has run its course.

Dead serious - Ricky's good games are few and far between.

There's a lot of others that should be in the gun well before Petterd.

He also is one that has shown a bit of mongrel and aggression, which we need more of.

Dunn will completely blanket Deledio as he did 2 yrs ago - and he kicked 5 goals as well.

Agree 100% JM - but aggression and mongrel without getting the footy doesn't work.

Look, I feel that I'm shooting Bambi, but honestly, Ricky has been very disappointing the last couple of seasons.....

He wasn't great last week, but I put that down to being rusty.

I don't agree in regards to the last couple of seasons.

I think Dunn got the nod over Ricky because he has the string in his bow to play a defensive forward role against Deledio, Barty to Cotchin, put someone on Dustin Martin who will make him accountable he is a gun around the middle going forward but on the rebound he doesn't work to hard heading back as he doesn't have the tank yet, who do we have to play that role Jones maybe?

I'd love to think that Green, Petterd, Bennell and Macdonald just had to make way for 4 gun in-form players, but that's not what's happening here.

Davey and Martin struggled against Brisbane; Morton has battled injury and loss of confidence for the past 2 years, and Tapscott has had a very restricted pre-season.

Good luck to them, but there has to be a dramatic improvement from the remaining 18 first teamers if we are to beat Richmond this Saturday.

Sadly I have to agree with this.

I would be absolutely fascinated to know the truth as to whether Brad Green is actually truly out of form or whether he has a bad case of the sulks as regards the tough new coaching standards.

It's not enough that the guy is closing in on his career due to age and poor form, but you have to question his motives ? Even when he's led this club onto the field of battle ?

Don't judge people by your own traits.

I'm not hugely happy with the backline as named. We seem to be horribly top-heavy. In fact we seem top-heavy all over the park. With their midfield they look like running all over us much like Brisbane did.

Also, I'd be much happier with Couch in the side. I know he and Magner fill more or less the same niche, but we need quality Mids and I can see him doing a very solid job for us.

Green gone.

I like these changes.

Let Trengove go head to head with Dusty. Jack is a very proud man and wants to be the best player from his class. What better way to show that than chop out the media darling Saturday afternoon.

It means nothing to the game or players but as a supporter I wouldn't mind if a few melee fines dished out to our players next monday. Show some fight in all aspects.....

What...he has played 2 quarters of footy on the ball so far, and has managed to rack up the touches in that time. And not to mention both times he has come on he has been thrust into a midfield which is being destroyed and more than held his own. I am not saying he is going to become Chris Judd but I wouldn't be abandoning it already after investing a whole pre-season and turning down a trade for it.

Richmond are rightly favourites and will probably win, but jeez their team looks ordinary on paper.

Wow, considering you see the game differently to the rest of us, I might have to snap up some of that $4 being offered for a Melbourne win. Will "probably" win wouldn't fill me with confidence if I were a Toiges supporter, especially coming from your keyboard BH!

I think we're too tall.

I think that either Sellar or Rivers has to come out,,, Unless the Tigers bring in a tall off they're emergencies.

Sellars MUST play on Vickery when he goes forward. I'm one of very few that actually sees a lot of potential in Vickery, and from memory, both games last year against us he was their main forward (due to the standard Frawley job on Reiwoldt). Jury's out for me with Sellar, but they've come back after brief deliberation regarding Rivers and it aint flash.

I have to say that Petterd is very stiff not to be given more game time.

I have to say that Petterd needs to lift his intensity and actually go and get the ball. While it is hard to criticse our forwards at the moment, due to the standard of our midfield, when you play on the half forward flank like Petterd does (and is best suited), you need to be just as effective in the midfield, and be able to generate your own possession. He and Howe are, in my view, fighting for the same spot, especially when Sylvia comes back, and I honestly believe Howe does more than Ricky Bobby.

I reckon you'd be hard pressed to name his last really good game.

Didn't Ricky have a game last year where he had something ridiculous like 13 tackles in the forward 50 ?

If so, that was his last good game.

I agree with you, Ricky is over-rated around here. Certainly doesn't run hard enough.

His best is good but we very rarely see it

I'd still prefer him instead of Dunn though

This is his problem - 13 x I50 tackles one week, how many the next 5 weeks?

He's not on his own, but the type of role he plays is an area that we have 3 or 4 players that can play it.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
