I find Patrick to be a top notch journo and usually find him to be thought provoking even when I don't agree with what he is saying but with this column we really need the moron button.

Does he really think the CEO could make a unilateral decision to dump the major sponsor without board approval, it was always going to happen Patrick it's just that due process needed to take place.

I would be more concerned that Victory put out a statement they were looking into the situation before they acted.

That is one of the poorest pieces of journalism I have read.

For example did he consider any of the following points before penning that piece of trash?

1. Establishing that Polis did in fact make the comments and that they were not put there by another.

2. Following the Corporations Act.

3. Applying good governance.

4. Allowing each Director to have their say/vote.

5. Making/announcing the decision in business hours and not while Directors could have been out socialising and drinking and not thinking clearly.

6. Announcing the decision to the media in daylight so that they could all be present.

7. Allowing MFC staff the time to be informed, so signs, logos etc could be removed before the announcement.

etc, etc, etc.

Patrick you should stand ashamed for kicking us while we are down and actually doing the right thing. Shameful piece of trash.

What the hell does that mean?

Am i the only one that wishes people wouldnt do this so often?

As for the story, I cant believe so many people are carrying on like this situation is our doing. The board is there for a reason.

Imagine Schwab making a decision by himself to ditch them, then the press finds out the blokes facebook account had been hacked? (Obviously it wasnt, and I hope people pick up what I am putting down)

Smith is a [censored].

"Just when things couldn't get any worse". ps what does faulty debt mean?

i put it like that because the club is currently being trivialised in the media by the use of headlines which 'say it all' ie yesterday's murdoch-son-sun: Dees self-deestruct. i am hopping mad how the press are trying to kill off our club... smith says we are dysfunctional... have richmond or footscray or essendon tin rattlers knocked off $5m like our club just did?

"Jim Stynes’ death appears to have buried the Melbourne Football Club – at least for season 2012."

Doing Jim Stynes' puns just a couple of weeks after his death.

Maybe you are Polis aren't so far removed Smith you sad excuse for a journalist.

Where is your mention of the rebels and victory who also had board meetings and took longer than we did to terminate. What a horrible article.

If i was Mark Neeld i would remember that Jim Stynes quote. It is very disrespectful to the club & it tells the players to "not bother at all this year"

Prove this Hack wrong Demons otherwise these vultures will continue to attack.

Seems too coincidental that this stuff about our major sponsor comes out the day after the AFL is on the back foot over claims one of its employees is lying about comments he attributes to one of our senior players and the refusal of the AFL to take appropriate action.

Now Demetriou and Mifsud have the spotlight off them and we are once again reliant on the AFL teet in a major way.

Conspiracy theory or conspiracy fact?

Faulty works in mining more precisely explosives hence the faulty det(onator).

But Smith is probably right we just don't seem to get anything right and go from one cricis to another. Not sure why but we seem to stuff up everything we touch and this is just another in the long line.

Does seem a little close doesn't it, considering the facebook comments were apparently dated early 2010.

I think a lot has been shelved until Jimma left & now it is all spewing out.

Stand tall & we will beat this decietful onslaught.

I don't know if that is the correct conspiracy, but the 'coincidence' surely means something was behind old Facebook crud suddenly becoming news.

Correct Robbie.

And when in doubt, we always blame the faulty det.

'THAT the Melbourne Football Club had to meet at all to consider its relationship with major sponsor Energy Watch is just another unfathomable element in the controversy'

I honestly can't believe any sane person would write this. WTF is going on?

You wouldn't be suggesting that the AFL lacks......"integrity"? Surely not! I would never have thought that :-)

Is that true?

Does this fuss relate back to a historic quote ( that some clever person has obviously been sitting on) from 2010?

Say it ain't so

(if it is so I'm going to watch Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory again)

If true...this situation really stinks.

A real investigation would be not why did we check our legal position and exercise governance procedures but who provided the information in the week of the mifsud incident and not earlier?

And why didn't that person go to the club first and say you have a problem here rather than going to the media first. Thats whats someone with the clubs best interests in mind would have done It's not like the board would have ignored that approach if they had that would be a scandal.

What Patrick is always keen to point out is the hubris of the afl and it's lack of governance.

So Patrick isn't the real story here who and why? someone wanted our club to be further tarred by the false suggestions in the misuse story.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
