Moloney on FC

Watched an interview with Moloney on Footy Classified.

Summary: its only the first game....and ....THE coach will do what he needs to. (He spoke about Neeld in the 3rd person and not by name, with respect to selections.)

Scary. Moloney is not buying into the new regime. Days numbered?

I posted this on the other thread:

Beamer's response gives the perception that he is sooking about the coach. He spoke quietly (unusual for Beamer) and he said that he "hopes" Aaron Davey and Brad Green get a game. The correct response to that question is "They'll get a game if Neeldy and the coaching group thinks they deserve one - and the same goes for every player, including me."

"Hoping" your mates get a game is the wrong approach to take.

Players have no right to dictate terms to a new coach. Perhaps after four or five years of abject failure or the staleing of a message, but not when the new coach has just come into the club.

Beamer doesn't strike me as the brightest light in the harbour, and it seems as though Neeld's game plan and approach is quite complicated. Could it be that he just doesn't understand what the coach is asking of him? Or do you think he's having a whinge about not being in the leadership group? I think it's likely a combination of the two factors.

I think we all know for a fact that he's not very good at public speaking after watching Beamer's Bumps and Bruises. I remember a few years ago Jim Stynes asked him in front of several fans what he dreamed of doing. When the obvious answer was to "win a premiership", Beamer instead said something along the lines of "become a professional NFL-er." He's not good at communicating, and I think this is going to be a problem for him under Neeld. He should not be permitted to discuss the MFC on programs such as FC and the Footy Show.

Beamer is running out of chances. The coach put faith in him last saturday and got nothing back.

"Blind Faith" was the comment. Beamer has obviously ruled the changeroom and that could very quickly be coming to an end.

Given Moloney's game was poor and MFC's performance was abysmal following on from Stynes passing,, its a hard gig to front a TV football show inquisition under those circumstances.

His TV performance was not as poor as the rehash of a baseless rumour regurgitated by apparent supporters that there is a schism between the Coach and some of the senior players. Its only trace of validity is that its being repeated ad nauseam on this site by promoters who have no proof of its actuality. And if self serving media types like Grant Thomas want to fuel such stuff then see it for what it is.

I don't think Beamer is smart enough to consciously refer to the coach in the third-person. If anything he's probably doing it unconsciously because he's so scared of him.

Is the above stated rumor the one Mark Stevens' just tweeted about? I must admit I have no idea what is being spoken about here...

StevoHeraldSun Mark Stevens

Neeld rumour been swirling around for 3-4 weeks. Who started it? Seems impossible task, but Dees have tossed ball into AFL's court.

My apologies I ave just woekn up, caught the news on what this tweet refers to. Sorry.

I knew some of our supporters would fall straight into jungle drum beating of Wilson and Thomas. I, like most others here welcome the attempt by Neeld at changing the culture within the footy club and we outside have to chill out for a bit and see how it unfolds.

I am absolutely NOT backing the players. They have failed me/us repeatedly. They need to tow the line, fall in or get out. So real or imagined discontent, don't even go there!

Absolutely agree.

Regardless of the rumors - the stats from Sat show Beamer with ZERO marks and 2 tackles. Staggering.

That rumor is in regards to Grant Thomas's racial allegation of talking to aboriginal players only in a group. He has asked the AFL to investigate as he said he was quite hurt by it when speaking about it "on the couch".

Could that possibly relate to the Grant Thomas comments? Neeld stated on On The Couch that he had referred the matter of comments relating to his interviewing of the indigenous players as a group rather than individually, to the AFL... he was pretty cut up about that to say the least. Edit: err yes, what Bonkers said :-)

Now, back onto this topic, why is it that people inevitably use this forum as an opportunity to sink the boot into players over their levels of intelligence etc etc... we saw it with Colin Sylvia the other day and here it is, happening again with Moloney. They are footballers, not Rhodes scholars, so how about cutting them a bit of slack. Is it possible that Moloney referred to him as "The Coach" out of respect (or fear) or just simply because it came out that way without any intent behind it... it's not like they are best buddies who hang out together after all.

Let's not pull things out of context because of the noun Brent used to refer to the coach.

If Brent is upset with his performance, the performance of the team, and the future of the senior players...

So am I.

What is the big deal? Soccer players constantly refer to 'The Manager' rather than 'Guus' or 'Holga'. So it shows a bit of distance between Neeldy and the boys. I am sure that is exactly what he is trying to do. He certainly isn't there to make friends and good on him.

How's Grant Thomas on FC last night saying in one breath that dictatorial approach could suit a club like Melbourne and our more recent cultural history and then went on to crap on about player 'empowerment'. Which one is it?

Also, am getting over Malthouse thinking he is holier than thou and putting his bit in at every opportunity (of course I know he is paid to do so now and wants to stay relevant) - for gods sake, what did he want the club to do with the death of Jimmy - pretend it didn't happen to shield the players?

Paying respect to Jimmy and having that as the corner stone of club culture is far more important than 4 points in Rd 1 in my book.

Beamer is rapidly scurrying down a path to become one of our Yesterday Men. I hope this doesnt occur as we need his tenaciousnous and singular view to attack. However the game Neeld want to employ is a bit more than that .. Beamers a bang crask kick style player but thats a very gung ho approach and is not often all that accountable. Accountability is everything Neelds brand of footy is about.

Brent...do you want to still play for Melbourne ?? Adapt........or th door, there is no middle. Understand that and pour your enthusiasm and love for the jumper into that.

Look im not reading to much into this. Moloney was on footy classified on one year and I didnt think he was a great speaker especially when you compare him to Trengove or Grimes and they are younger. I remember that now when he said about becoming a professional nfl player. Brent should focus more about getting the ball and how to overcome getting heavily tagged.

Every part of our club got hammered this week, the players, coach, Garry Lyon came out and had a crack back at Malthouse and Richo about them having a go at presenting jumpers on the ground. I couldnt believe that Malthouse said the players shpuldnt have done the guard of honour and not wore the blazers. Wearing blazers didnt affect the result on the weekend. Sorry are you trying to tell me that when Lou Richards goes or one of there other legends the collingwood players wont do a guard of honour. Sorry Mick Jim actually meant somehting to these players. I htink Mark Neeld will be glad to get out of the state.

BB I have a bad feeling the he only knows one way or can only play one way.

Sad because I geniuely believe his heart is in the right place but we could be seeing the last on him.

I would not be surprised to see him leave at the end of 2012.

It cannot be any fun for Beamer at the MFC at the moment.

He could be a great pickup for another club, still young enough to have an impact for a couple of seasons at the right club.

Sadly I think the future looks poor for him at the MFC.

Amazing how quickly so many of you are writing off Beamer! He finished top ten in the brownlow last year and already his days are numbered? Ease up...

It is not his ability that has changed Stylus

It is the situation he is now in at the MFC.

Dropped as Vc, Dropped from the leadership group ( His peers obviously think there are others better able to lead them ), Tarnished rightly or wrongly by the 186 fiasco.

Poor form in the pre season and first game.

A year can be a long time in football, just ask Brad Green or Davey

I think, with a new coach, who has come in to effect swift and drastic change, forming a relationship will take time.

Considering the circumstances, I think if I were Moloney, I'd feel uncomfortable referring to the coach by a nickname as if there was a level of familiarity there that doesn't actually exist.

The fact Neeld clearly is seen as an authority figure amongst the group, cannot be seen as a bad thing.

Bailey was mates with all the players, and where did that get us?

I've thought his number has been up for years, personally.

One-trick pony that will never be part of a winning team.

Hope I'm wrong, but he's lucky I'm not list manager, cos I'd have traded him last year.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
