LJ claims he didn't touch him.If so, will not have any issue re jail.Getting back in the team, is his first priority and succeeding. He owes that to himself, family, great friends such as Bruce etc..

JCB, its a pity Carl Williams was not able to succeed in Court with such a claim. Unfortunately its not so clear cut for Liam until all the evidence is put forward and assessed in Court. His claim wont hold any water if its not collaborated by other witnesses or evidence. The presumption of innocence requires his charges to be proven. THere may be insufficient evidence for the charges to stick. Until then its premature to claim he will not have any issue re jail. His first priority is to get off the charges and to be cleared by the Courts. He owes that to his family and friends. From there his life can start moving forward. Everything else is secondary.

Rhino why on earth would you take task over such an innocuous post, and why on earth would you bring Carl Williams into the discussion?

Sometimes you seem to be obstreperous for no good reason.

I hate reading into things too much but.............

does anyone else wonder whether MFC are drawing out Jurrah's return so he can deal with his impending court case before his first game?

He was originally flagged for a return this weekend at Casey, now it's probably next week. Assuming 1 week in the 2s then he's due to play on the 11th against Hawthorn? 6 days before his case?

With an interrupted pre-season, you would assume 2 weeks at Casey might be more fitting. Then with his court visit on May 17th............

I doubt it. From what I've heard, his "impending court case" is simply a video link where he pleads guilty or not guilty. The next time he'll have to appear in court is still months away, I believe.

All I could ask for is for us to give the man a fair go, if he's fit, play him because we desperately need some talent in our team. Is it too much to suggest that he might actually come out a better player from all of this?

I don't think it's relevant.

According to Neeld's presser today Jurrah didn't feel fit enough (Edit: this week) - was buggered after each of his 2 "light" sessions.

Neeld wanted him to play Casey but LJ didn't feel up to it.

As others have said, the up coming court date is simply where he pleads "not guilty" (presumably he's sticking with that) - so things are then deferred.

I can't wait to see him fit and back in the side.

LJ tells Neeld he needs another week?? WHAT???? How can he not be fit enough??????

WTF?? He has had a wrist injury. And been running for months..

This is bizarre in the extreme, Surely he can canter around in the Casey team and he would still beat everyone there?? I don't get it.

Very fishy to me.

I agree, however I think it is rather weak that he is not told to run around in the reserves to see how he goes. Surely he could be managed through the match. Even if he played for half the game it would be better that none. Liam may be down on confidence, so he he needs a firm hand. Which not making him play even worse. After all he is a well paid employee of the club not an amateur.

Lets hope he is not turning into another Austin Wonaeamirri. The only way Liam is going to get into the AFL team is by match fitness with Casey. In effect he will be out for 2 weeks as the Casey Reserves have a bye next weekend. So therefore it is once again showing that Melbournefc cannot manage its players properly. Who is running the Football Department the players or the coaches and support staff. At the moment by the way the players are playing plus this Liam Jurrah no show I would say the players are calling the shots.

I know it is history but would Norm Smith or 'Checker' Hughes put up with this rubbish? Mark Neeld has now shown himself to be of a very weak character. It soulds as though the footy department thought Liam could play this weekend so Neeld should have backed them up.

It looks like if we want to have Liam Jurrah on our list we need to keep him out of the NT. But I have a feeling we may be fighting a battle we can not win.

Yes it is looking like dodgy bros country to me.

When did he injure his wrist? Rd 20 last year?

How can that have hampered his fitness SOOOOO much that he can't run around in the magoos?? He can still run...

Posted

There would have to be some temptation to bring Jurrah back to the senior team and play him as a sub this week, maybe bring something electric late in the game

... although if he needs to get more match-conditioning into him that might be better served with another run at Casey

Casey play this week and have two weeks off after that. So looks likely he'll play at Casey this week and then back into the team the week after.

Neeld said on SEN this morning that Liam Jurrah would not be playing against Hawthorn this weekend, but he would be in the team as soon as possible. The above looks a likely plan, provided nothing goes awry against Box Hill this weekend.

Can't run out a full game yet and only has the tank for a quarter/half? Sounds like a sub for me.

And when someone does a knee in the first minute of the game?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
