Training - Monday 21 November, 2011

Does anyone know what happens with the players drafted on Thursday night.

Are they already expected to turn up to training on Friday?

I'd imagine if they were local they would turn up. If they were from interstate, they would be granted time to arrive, move and relocate before starting.

There is almost no chance of them training on Friday. If they are local they might come down, otherwise they will need to get here. Even some of the local guys might be away on schoolies or so forth.

I'd expect them to be presented to the group on Monday at the earliest but probably not until later in the week.

They will all start with very basic training until the fitness staff get an idea of their level and what they require in order to improve through the preseason without being run into the ground.

But it's all relative. If we draft Couch who is training with us I expect him to be on the track on Friday. If we draft Manson I'd be surprised to see him on the track by the following Friday.

If they live in Victoria they will be there Friday and if you are any chance of getting drafted the last place you would be is at schoolies and the first place you want to be after you are drafted is at training the next day.

Well I know for a fact that a player on our list was at schoolies on draft day. These kids are allowed to have lives, they've had a huge year, I'm sure most clubs wouldn't mind as long as they are keeping fit and being responsible.

Mature age players have been overseas at the time of the draft on many occassions.

I remember skulling beers on schoolies with Farren Ray, a day or so after he was drafted, but thats another story

I love the thought of a closed swimming session. Must be some reallly important structures and strategies in those sessions !!

I guess that means a day off.

So the coaching group and Prenders, Harrington and Co. can sit down and work through the list and strategy for Thursday Night.

Does anyone know who swam well today?

Did anyone train the roof off the swimming pool complex down there are at Casey?

WJ, it was my understanding that it was a closed pool.

Bugger. Neeld & Misson would be spewing it was closed. Should have ventured to MSAC.

:)

SMARTIE PANTS-Closed pool - meaning it was closed to supporters of the club.

A mate of mine knows Cale Mortons new personal fitness coach. Cale got a personal fitness coach late this year in an endevour to bulk up and improve his endurance. He said he is sick of being undersize etc. The coach is really giving it to him apparently to the point where he is collapsing but says hes enjoying the challenge or words to that effect.

I'd expect them to turn up next Monday although this Friday will be a light training session.

He shouldn't have a personal fitness coach. Nothing wrong with getting someone to help you out after the season finishes and before Misson and co sent out programs, but now we are in full swing everything should be organised by Misson.

There is such a thing as over training and doing unauthorized sessions is a risk for this. The interesting thing for Morton is how do you balance bulk against endurance. Personally I don't think he plays like a big man so I'd only want to put maximum 5 or so kg's on to give him protection and some power and keep him as a running player with extra height. He's an interesting player for the fitness guys to deal with.

What if the coach and the program had been vetted by the club? I would assume that he'd run it by our coaches before he did something like that.

I recall Tom MacDonald's marking in an early practice match against the Lions at Carlton. Was really impressed. I haven't seen him much since. Wasn't he picked in the 50's. Just shows you one shouldn't underestimate lower picks.

My neice's boyfriend played with Tom for the Ballarat Rebels u18 side. He reckons he was the best player he's seen at that level and told me not to be surprised if he turned out really well.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
