No one likes what has gone on and we're going to have to live with it. The thing is these club(s) are regulated by the AFL and are not independant. It's an unhealthy set-up.

Mfc have re-loaded since and nabbed Clark, we still have the two compo's up the sleeve. I'm sure those in charge are even more determined given the saga and they'll attack to fill the holes as necessary to give us the best chance of a flag.

Move on.

I tend to agree with you here, But what was in it for the MFC...How did we benefit from this Farce?

This was a number one Draft pick that we have sadly thrown away. I do not ever want to go through that Tanking Shite again...As a supporter it made me feel sick in the guts...and after all this certainly was not worth it.

Your right about the tanking ultimately being a waste we went through hell for nothing To sing the club song 3 times in a season is just gut wrenching.

MFC got the following

Equalisation Funding - multiple millions of dollars no questions asked

we wouldn't of got the 9 million or whatever it was if we had of kicked up a stink we were pantsed and put over a barrel

2 compo picks

Don't care anymore. But it does show how difficult it has been for GWS to recruit big names, if to get a kid with questions over his knee they had to make him the highest paid player in the league AND offer his father a full time job. All this talk of targetting young stars is spin. They were not able to convince a single established star to play for their club.

thats a good point

How did we benefit? Can't be sure yet but hopefully this sorry tale galvanizes our club (I think you'll agree it has somewhat already) and that we are able to snare a couple of quality young players with those components picks.

I sometimes think the Scully saga/farce was the good kick up the bum Melbourne had to have.

Maybe you are right...and yes we are more Galvanized..But to throw away a number one draft pick, remaining quiet about it for however long, does not give me a good feeling.

Did other clubs have to Bend over this far?? We are talking a number one draft pick here....

As FRank Zappa so correctly said.."There is a big difference between kneeling down & bending over"

People were worried when Trengove and Tapscott both signed for an extra year early on but Scully didn't, their fears came true.

I agree, there was something about him that never made me fell like he played for Melbourne.

I actually always felt comfortable about Trenners, even when he was in the South Australian Colors. I always felt he was the real deal, and loyal and grateful.

Scully, I was concerned about about him. I think it was maybe a selfishness or 'I' attitude or something, but sensed a negative with him. I had to encourage myself to get onboard with him & his football.

I also liked Martin & Cunnington at the time, as tough inside players.

Now, we have to future picks to help spread our Age bracket of talent, a good thing IMO.

This entire saga, plus the sacking of Bailey, has changed the mindset of our our great club I reckon, "BRING IT ONTO THE ARENA BOYS"

I felt the same way. I remember seeing him interviewed on the Footy Show a few months before we drafted him, and even then I was concerned about how unenthused he sounded about the prospect of joining Melbourne.

I thought after few years at the club he might feel differently, but as someone posted earlier, it never really felt like he played for Melbourne.

Yeah, IMO he never put his heart into it, as if he resented having to pull on the Red 'n' Blue.

In the end i think we had to play the season knowing that we had to hold his value up by playing him when we didn't like it. Senior games equates to his value in picks compensated to us.

Hands tied comes to mind.

Glad he's gone to a losing club.

A bad day for the AFL, GWS, Dale Holmes and the Scully clan -

Greater Western Sydney Giants lose CEO Dale Holmes

Not to mention a shocker for the media. I can't believe the standard of journalism we're getting these days ranging from Bartlett and Denham on SEN this morning to the author of the above article.

Not quite clear whether they're claiming a connection between the sacking and the Scullys but it would appear that they're now disrupting a second club in the space of a calendar year. They deserve GWS and GWS deserves them.

Personally, I'll be happy to move on but this $cully imbroglio is too much fun.

On a serious note however, I think it's time for an independent investigation into what's happening over at the GWS and an audit into what a large dose of football money is being spent on and whether it's likely to achieve anything.

Plenty of soccer and basketball teams have failed in Sydney, even a few rugby league clubs.

It's only a matter of time for the GWS Bears to cause the AFL its ultimate embarrassment . Are they really forking out $200k for this man to spot talent? They'd get more value for a lot less money by referencing bigfooty!

I keep reading how well we have done with two 1st round picks for our GWS recruit, but like WYL I don't buy it. We wouldn't swap our pick 2 JT to Port for 8&9 and here we are getting about 13 & 16 for number 1 pick in the country. Would Tigers swap Martin for picks 13 & 16, would Hawks swap Hodge for 13 & 16. The compensation is nothing like what was lost. The only thing I hope is that we have dodged a bullet if the injuries are as bad as I have heard. I wish people would stop saying we were fairly compensated because we weren't. We were just compensated according to AFL guidelines not fairly or adequately.

We weren't fairly compensated but we may well be better off.

But we won't know that for a while.

We are certainly better off for 2012, although that is like boasting about taking the 12th prettiest girl to the high school formal...

Looking in hindsight we tried to negotiate with the wrong $cully, to keep Tom we just had to give dad a job... beyond a joke but who cares, I think the CEO getting the boot is related.

Getting the boot or disgusted with GWS sham and walked.

I was deleted some months ago when I said that the look on "Mums" face when he was drafted said it all. Comments were made then by supporters who noted how unhappy she looked. He was never going to stay. We never had a chance. Obviously the Manager works for all the family. Will he get his percentage from Dads pay packet.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
