Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

OK I'll bite

what does KOTD mean?

google didn't really help ("Kiss of the Dragon"!)

Smooched on the penis.

Chook is right. Hannabal coined it I believe in anticipation of the draft where we got Trengove, Gysberts, and Tapscott.

I like the dragon though!

If there was a league that encompassed the best players of the past twenty years not quite good enough for AFL footy, yet too good for the VFL ... Brad Miller would be the Wayne Carey of it.

That's a whole new topic.

Valenti, Bate, Dunn, Johnson (P and C)...we've had our share

Reason for edit: doubled the number of Johnsons

KOTD. It normally rears its ugly head (no pun intended) around this time of year, when was the last time the MFC were KOTD? I think it's a stupid saying, and surely we can use better words to describe a similar situation.

I'd say the last time we were KOTD, the umpires kept us out of the game against Port in the final round, seeing us finish a few spots lower than we would have with a win, and also getting a draft pick some 4 or so spots earlier.

A draft pick we used to trade for Mitch Clark.

Sorry if this has been posted already but couldn't be bothered reading the whole 6 pages.

I hate it when people say they gave or will give more than 100%.

YES.

It's the most stupid inane meaningless cliche.

Then when people think 110% is cliched so they push it up to 115% or 120%!!

The stupidity of it all!

And the current pathetic contributions to the game:

selling candy

fat side of the ground

shot on goal

quarterback

stoppage

ban them

I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with the "fat side" or "stoppage".

It's like having an issue with a player being described as a "tagger" - they describe particular aspects of the game.

If you like, we could go more american and use the term "weak side" instead?

What would you prefer? Since these things don't have other terms to use as an alternative.

Yes, a particular dislike of mine is the use of "Z" in place of the softer "S". :-)

I too prefer the soft 's' where appropriate (not anything soft on the Footy field though) but I guess that i may be just a bit lazy and accept the auto spell check on the iPad and iPhone.

Can anyone please explain, in plain English, what is 'the fat side' -- Phil $cully references excluded.

Usually it means the area in the forward 50 with the greater space (and generally less congestion) for the forward to lead into.

It means the other side of the ground.

Usually 'fat side' is preceded with 'switch to the.'

Yes, the opposite side of the ground to the one the ball is on.

Often referred to as the "weak side" in basketball.

As opposed to the "strong side" that the ball is on (we don't have an AFL equivalent term. Yet.)

Don't get me wrong Lutz, I'm excited about getting Clark, and I'm as passionate about the Club as the next person, but the only time it will feel like I have been KOTD in terms of the MFC is when we win a flag. In the mean time, I'll just give myself a pat on the head if something good happens to the Club!

The reason people have a problem with terms like "fat side" is because they are over used. These terms are in vogue, and IMO commentators seem to sweat on being able to slip them into their call. You never hear them say “there’s plenty of room on the members wing” these days. Its “the fat side is on” – give me a break!

Same goes for Elite & insipid. There are so many words which could be used to describe these players, teams or instances, but the footy media will use Elite & insipid whenever they get a chance.

Just because we have lots of excitement over our new draft picks doesn't mean the grammar critics can take a break.....

"Body of Work"

this one I first heard mentioned a couple of times by Garry03 but now Jason Taylor has pulled it out of his hat to describe Petracca

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-27/dees-new-dynamic-duo

I know Petracca is well rated as a junior but "body of work" to describe 2 years of a developing under age footballer stretches the meaning of the phrase just a tad

The crawling of "body of work" into footy lexicon is a curious one but follows the industry's need to overstate and hype to new levels.and borrow artists or academia's phraseology to justify itself.

Did Petracca get a honorary PhD for these 2 years also?

"will be a (an absolute) gun" has been for many years a condemnation to disaster at MFC - how many times did I read this of Morton, Maric, Gysberts, $cully, even Cook, 426 etc etc.

Hold your tongue until one can truly say "x is a gun"

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
