Tom Scully in September ...

Grandson of a gun

Recommended Posts

I don't want to lose Scully and I take him at his word. However, if he leaves the sky won't fall in and without being disrespectful to his ability I don't think it will have a dramatic impact on the team.

If we aspire to be a great team we have to be greater than the sum of the individual parts. Geelong lost Ablett last year and Mumford the year before that; one is arguably the best player in the game, the other is arguably the best in his position. They still have a real chance of claiming the flag.

Watts, Trengove and Frawley have elite capabilities. Gysberts, Bennell, Morton, Grimes, Jurrah, Tapscott, Gawn, Howe, McDonald, Nicholson, Evans Blease and Strauss are all talented youngsters who could push into the elite bracket. Jones, Bartram, Petterd, Martin Garland and Bail are all strong foot soldiers

Jamar, Moloney, Sylvia, Green and Davey are all better than how they have performed in 2011. Add to this Jack Viney waiting in the wings.

An attitude change in the playing group as well as a good pre-season (or two) will see Melbourne pushing up the ladder with or without Tom Scully.

My money is on October for the decision. Whether actual or fictional, the contract talks wont be concluded promptly.

Wouldn't have the faintest of where he'll be playing next year but I'm happy either way. Scully staying would be great but so would 2 first round draft picks, que sera sera.

i posted a couple of weeks ago that sculls was long gone, my mail was sos +1. The +1 is very tight with sos and a good mate with myself. He also knew about the adelaide bloke about a month before it was a rumour. Thats good enough for me, if its not right, so be it, but like i said last time, the only thing i'm [censored] off about is the compensation. To put two years into a number 1 pick and get @#$%all is a disgrace!!!!!!

if the drug culture at the club is as bad as i've heard it is, frankly I don't blame him for leaving. . everything is starting to make sense now after what i've heard. . Schwab also trying to rid the problem, hence why the players backlashed against him. . we will never go anywhere that way!!

Lol jesus christ.

For ppl who are concerned by this idiot A.Stewart I have seen numerous Melbourne players out on the town, by and large they are a very well behaved bunch of young men and are not under the the influence of any drug.

deleted - I acknowledge it was a silly comment to put up. I apologise to all, please delete any replies to the post deleted. Thankyou

It wasn't just silly you halfwit, it was slanderous and vendictive. Do you realise the parasites of society AKA Craig Hutchinson & Damien Barrett troll through these sites before going to air spruiking of rumours they have heard from various sources.

If your a member tear it up and f#%k off!

Well don't just ask us to delete, you delete your comment first.

And this person is not the only one who blame us having a bad culture. I heard this comment a lot after Dean Bailey got sacked.

Don't speak if you don't have any evidence.

If we have to pay him 600 k a year to stay i hope he goes . Not worth the coin handballs far to much, misses targets by foot and has a problem knee . Blease looks far more impressive . Pay the money to other blokes to stay like col sylvia get some more kids in and move on .

Regarding the drug gossip, last year a bouncer phoned SEN and said he felt he had to comment on the Melbourne boys. He said that with all the negative publicity about Mad Monday and what teams get up to, he felt obliged to say that Melbourne were well behaved and respectful during the end-of-season bash, and when one of our players had too much and they told him to go home, the senior players first asked if they could put him on water until he sobered up, and when told no they put him in a taxi and apologised on his behalf.

Absolutely a substance abuse issue here.

I heard SEN talked with Sam Blease and he said he is best mate with Scully and confident Scully will wear Dees jumper next season.

That's a big confident booster for people that still believe he will stay.

The game of Sam Blease last weekend, just might sway our Tom into staying. Those 2 are Rock Solid from what i have heard....

My issue is that GWS have a 2 year window to sign uncontracted players. If Sculls stays we will be looking at some Salary cap pressure next season. I believe we have a handful of players coming out of contract at the end of next season, making them potential GWS targets.

No doubt in my mid that Scully will be a top tier player, but I have the same belief about Blease and a few other on our list that could become GWS targets.

If you draw a line in the sand as to who are the most important young players in the list, there is going to be some difference of opinion on this forum. Is signing Scully this season worth losing a Blease and a Garland next season?

Just some food for thought. For the record I do hope Scully stays.

Looks like we will know on Monday about Tom Scully's playing career with the mighty Demons: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/dees-chase-lyon-as-viney-eyes-job-20110901-1jo92.html

So can't decide between training sessions hasn't even looked at the contracts but after playing this weekend will decide in a day !! If this reporter is right surely he is gone. If he goes to gws he will go quickly no doubt and avoid mad

Monday and everything else.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
