Viney Dees Coach in 2012

Recommended Posts

I have heard that MM will do one year as Pies Footy Coaching Director ( will do nothing ) receive $1million and then be free to go where he likes. If we appoint Viney for 1 year I would guess that we have done a deal for MM in 2013. He may have a behind the scenes influence in 2012. Viney can set up the game plan and develop the team and then hand over the reins in 2012. The one fly in the ointment could be the Blues but as I said earlier if Viney gets the nod for next year I think MM will be the Coach the next year. Time will tell. This will have Eddie saving face and then saving $2million for the Pies for years 2013 and 2014.

Surely you are not suggesting we sit on our hands for another year!

Every time I hear Viney he keeps saying he does not want the job.

And how would it look for us to playing a waiting game for MM

He is either available for 2012 or we get someone to do a proper job for the next 3 -5 years.

A year is a massive amount of time in football.

If Malthouse wants to coach us then he I want him to start now or not at all.

All this talk about Eddie suing is [censored]. I dont care if Eddie saves face.

Viney has stated that he doesn't want to be a senior coach a couple of times now.

Lets get the new coach in and give him a shot. A caretaker role for a whole year would do nothing to settle us.

Eddie doesn't want MM going to a club that is 'IN the Window'... He could undo Buckleys Pies if he were @ the Bluebaggers the Sainters or the Hawks.

So E'd would rather he went to a club that has 3 or more years to Mature.

I'd rather we put Choco Williams, Eade or a Scott Burns/Sanderson, in for 2, or maybe 3, to carry on the development of our young Tyro's.

I am not suggesting anything, merely relaying news I heard today. It was as close to from the horse's mouth as it could be. I am talking about the MM not coaching for one year and then being free part. The rest is my speculation.

So our plans are dictated by the Collingwood President???

No wonder our club has no self esteem.

Get the best available and appoint for 5 years if we think he is really any good.

At the races today and spoke to a Melbourne fan. He said that he knew the work of Brendan McCarthy and that he was brilliant. Architect of many of the new tactics at Geelong working with Defence and Mid Field. Only drawback being he is not a former AFL player. Widely acclaimed in AFL circles for his coaching. Would we go left field?

Seems plausible but only if both parties had something in place to ensure the transition IMO. Can't see the MFC/FD sitting on its hands for a whole season in hope that this might take place. Too risky.

In addition Mick made it clear on the Footy Show a while back that he wasn't just going to just sit around and not contribute in some significant way as Footy Director, and that this would need sorting. He wanted it to be a win/win for both him and the club.

This would smack in the face of the bolded point up there.

Bailey was left field.

IMO we where burn't badly by this option.

We simply can't risk Left Field again.

Mathews said on the radio today that his optimism about Melbourne stems from our ability to turn it on and win by a big margin. If he wants to coach us, it would be great. He is only in his 50's. A long way from retired.

59, does he even want to go back to coaching? I didn't think so.

Hasn't he just gone to Essendon with Bomba?

We took applicants for the job. Weeded out the bad one's and made a shortlist.

We then extensively interviewed the people on the short list and got them to give us a presentation.

Bailey was deemed the best available by the selection panel.

Thinking about who was available at the time, how was he a left field option?

I think the idea of extending Todd Viney's caretaker coaching role by another twelve months is fraught with danger. We desperately need someone to come in with a plan, not just for the present but also for the years to come.

We need to have someone in who will bring stability back to the club and not uncertainty and another change in a year's time. A stop gap measure would be a disaster for our young list which needs firm direction and a coach who can bring it into line with the most modern and up to date coaching methods - not another year of wondering what will happen next.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
