It will be interesting to compare our performances when we're up to speed in terms of players back from injury to some of our worse performances.

The second half of the season will give a fair indication.

Also I give a public apology to whoever it was said we'd win eleven games and I wrote we'd win twelve.

This estimate reminds me of some of my stock market dealings.

it explains the Mathews sightings

Does explain the Matthews sightings - and a touch of Lethal around the club is a good thing.

Gotta wonder whether it's making Dean more confident in his methods to be honest. Interestingly, they're only meeting outright on a Friday, but I wonder whether they're chatting outside that - stuff like after the Weagles game (although they were back the Friday after that)

Agree with those before me. A good article showing some insights into our coach. Just a few of those 'behind the scenes' aspects that most of us were not aware of.

I liked the way he showed the players his "fangs" after the performance against North.

he is [censored] he didnt put watts on goddard personally i would have liked that matchup good experience 4 watts

All very well in hindsight. I think collectively we would prefer that these type of decisions be made during the game, not at Monday review.

could have just nailed himself a job for the next couple of years. i am very glad he was prepared to open up like this. Takes Guts to do that.

As I said, interesting insight, but a bit of a long bow to suggest it will result in a 2yr contract extension. At least I hope so...

Bailey has done the hard things at this club from the moment he arrived and this at the cost of his own situation. The delisting of Bruce and McDonald last year was nothing short of brave.

That fate has taken two of his best midfielders for most of the first half of the season and now claimed 12 players to serious injury and suspension in three weeks just as those two midfielders look like returning is depressing.

The torch bearers will be up in arms but with Davey, Jamar, Scully, Trengove, Bail, Garland, Grimes, Bartram, Dunn and Tapscott unavailable this week and backup ruckman Spencer (and Fitzpatrick) also unavailable we should get a belting. That we should find ourselves in this position with our three most public performances in front of us is cruel indeed.

IMO it is impossible to judge both Bailey and our club at the moment, we are simply not being correctly represented.

Bailey has my full support and this article helps to show why. He is a man of courage and conviction.

Very good post. I will add that we had apparent issues with both our game plan and intensity prior to the injury disasters. We responded well against Adelaide but things have been difficult to gauge since then due to all the reasons you have stated. Unfortunately Bailey has not had the tools at his disposal to form a consistent response to a lot of the warranted criticism levelled at him early.

Hopefully things improve on the injury front by mid season and judgements can be made on our processes and intensity.

Nice article but has everyone forgot the man's lack of a gameplan.

I have great respect for what he has done for the club but let's get Roos or Malthouse to coach us now.

The essennce of a good coach as opposed to a good analyst! You would think though with three or four assitant coahes on the job as well that the collaborative effort would address these issues during a match?

I'm not at all convinced on Bails unfortunately, as nice a bolke as he is. By now there should be a much greater level of consistency in implemenation of his 'game plan'.

correct, we mus'nt lose sight of this. Its natural to feel sympathy for him now that we have this injury situation but the fact is he is strategically and tactically incapable, regardless of the team we are fielding.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

The Demons head back to Melbourne after an embarrassing loss to the Dockers to take on the Magpies at the MCG on Kings Birthday. With a calf injury to Lachie Hunter and Jacob van Rooyen possibly returning from injury who comes in and who goes out?
