Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

I must say that this is a very happy day for this little Black Duck. Hogan joining the club over the next day or two will make it a stupendous draft with more to follow.

Imo Jack Viney will be a better player than Todd, who made the TOC. It's no exaggeration to say that he's harder, quicker, has a better sidestep and evasive abilities - as mentioned by Micky O - and he's a far better kick. I haven't seen a truly gun left foot mid at Melbourne, which dates back to the 70's, but I expect that that's finally going to change. Yze was a good player and Woewodin had a few decent years, but they were a few rungs below genuine star status and neither impacted games like this inside mid will. And it's selling Viney short to say he's just an extractor, or 'first dibs' footballer, as he's also very proficient on the outside.

I've thought about the most likely left footed comparison and the best I can do is Scotty West, who was a terrific player that won 7 B&F's. But even then Viney has some skill sets that should hold him in good stead in that comparison. Btw, I'm not saying he's the messiah, as some will no doubt spout, nor am I putting any pressure on him, as he'll put far more pressure on himself than I ever could, but I reckon he'll become a star midfielder in due course.

Best left foot mids I've seen:

Black

Pendlebury

Cable

West (178cm)

There's also Wayne Johnston and Hodge, but they played more as flankers. I can't really think of any other absolute gun left foot mids, but I'm sure I've missed the odd one. Goodwin comes very close.

We've now got our own Joel Selwood.

Welcome to Jack.

There have been some massive claims made on his behalf already, so I just want to say that all I want from him is this:

1. Work hard on the track

2. Earn your spot in the team

3. Enjoy your footy

If he can do all three, then the rest will look after itself.

One of the big gains from his slipping through to the second round is that we don't have to wring our hands about whether or not he is the right choice. We can just sit back and enjoy watching him play.

I would have thought he'd be closer to a Mitchell :P

Pretty sure one of his teammates said he's a natural lefty but worked really hard to make both sides work the same.

One of my client's has a couple of boys at Carey and they play football with Jack, he was telling me the other day that Jack was so dominant in one competition he played in he was made to kick right foot for the whole of the season. He is a left footer.

Viney says he was worthy of pick No. 3

No shrinking violet this boy.

Hopefully he can instill this mentality into a few others at the club. (No 4 /10 as examples)

One of Jack Watts junior coaches (IIRC Robert Shaw) said that Jack was dominant that he would play him out on the wing so as to give other kids a go at the footy. Now I like Jack and have read and heard lots of good things about JV but this reminds me of the Watts quote

Instead of doing paperwork this morning, I sat glued to my computer waiting for 10am. I was so excited when I read the news - I couldn't be anything but happy all day. Unfortunately I was home alone and didn't have anyone to share the excitement with but I did stop and dream for a few moments about the good times ahead.

I was a huge Todd Viney fan and cannot wait to see Jack play in the red and blue next year.

Has there been a less speculative pick in the draft era? We know exactly what we're getting, he trained with us and played for Casey for a year, we saw him dominate last year's U18 GF - we've seen his leadership and passion for the club.

I feel dirty quoting the Hun, but Jay Clark just tweeted that today looks like a turning point for the Dees. It sure feels like it.

tsk tsk you omit the AFL TOC first rover, HOF Legend and triple brownlow medallist Bobby (Chimp) Skilton. He was actually proficient with both feet (more accurate on left) and a renowned expert of the daisycuttter

Could not be happier! Welcome Jack, I've a feeling we may be a little more attractive now. Very well played MFC, I really didn't know how this would pan out, but, with this they've nailed it.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. The Dees take on the Blues and have the opportunity to win their third game on the trot to solidify a spot in the Top 4 in addition to handing the Blues their third consecutive defeat to bundle them out of the Top 8.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
