Brad's goalkicking has been horrible this year. I'm not as calm anymore when he's kicking for goal.

Could this be due to added pressure of captaincy?

Nah, led to the pocket all day.

Give yourself a chance, Brad.

I've been disappointed with Green as a player and a Captain this year. I am not seeing him assert himself on games, always looking at the umpires for free kicks and just hasn't been hard at it enough.

He obviously has to work hard to be a leader but at the moment it looks as though this is at the expense of his own game.

Agree.

Short answer - no.

Long answer - nope.

Too many shots from the boundary, and usually on the wrong side for a left footer.

He's playing awful footy at the moment.

Got a couple of easy ones today but he really isn't looking dangerous as a forward, exerting minimal forward pressure and probably isn't great as a midfielder any more either. He needs to lift in the next few weeks.

Our leadership group as a whole is struggling. Jones is just battling through games, Moloney is playing well but has had an off field slip, Grimes and Davey aren't near their best. Probably the only one who's going well is Rivers, and he's only a few classic Rivers brain fades away from looking rubbish!

Davey is rubbish at the moment. Needs a spell in the seconds.

Don't know about others but gee whiz that ground looked small on TV. How many times did a player from either side run and carry the footy with a couple of bounces. Can't remember one!

Agree with other posters that Greeny was forced to lead deep to pockets to avoid the congestion. That said, there's something about his kicking technique that strikes me as a bit off. Can't put my finger on it.

Was at the ground today. Definitely smaller than the G but not so much so that it would impact the run and carry. Incidentally, it's a cracking venue to watch the footy.

Green's goalkicking was reasonably rubbish today, even from in front. Definitely seems to have lost his consistency from last year. Has been unreliable all year.

He was definitely better today, but that's a result of playing Gold Coast. He did, though, play deeper which IMO is always best with Green.

Took some great marks but too many of them were on the boundary line. His form this year has been pretty poor but it's not as big of a worry as people are making it out to be.

The dimensions of the playing field are now 170.6 metres (east-west) by 149.9 metres (north-south). The seating capacity of the ground is now 42,000.

Dimensions

The MCG arena now has a total of approximately 20,000 square metres in area and measures 171 x 146 metres in length, from fence to fence. The boundary line measures five metres from the fence.

*There doesn't seem to be much difference according to these anyway.

Agree.

He just hasn't hit his straps yet. Like others whom have got alot of improvement in them. When we do- watch out.

Just struggling for top form. No mysterious "Captains Curse" going on here. Just a case of Brad playing below his best footy. He is a good enough player to build form and in a few weeks we should see some vintage Brad Green.

In an interview on chanel 7 he said that he had been trying too hard because of the added responsiblity and thought he may have been thinking too much instead of using his instincts. Said that is what he is trying to get back too....

If we are talking about his output - as JCB said, he has a lot of improvement in him.

If we are talking about leadership as a captain - we will see whether he has improvement in him...

I don't like to make statements like that but I just don't see him as a captain at this point in time. Maybe the role he plays isn't conducive to being seen in that light but, like the other senior players, he has been disappointing in output, body language, and general on-field leadership.

Posted

I thought his marking today was top-notch. Was murdered a couple of times without getting a free-kick, too. Sure he missed a couple, but two of them were posters, and almost all of his kicks were in about the tenth row. Not in super form, but whatever, he'll come good. Or not. He is the wrong side of thirty - and we all know how quickly things can go downhill at that age.

Agree with all of this. I'll add I would like to see him lead straight a bit more.

Its pretty hard to lead ( that's lead - not lead!) from a forward pocket. It's a role which depends on the work of others further a field.I'd like to see him take his turn up on a wing to get him into the action. He can better impose himself on the game from there. He might still spend 50-60% of the game up forward where his ability to lead ( that's lead - not lead) is important.

I'm sure there's a good captain's game just around the corner

He needs to stop looking for frees - his body language is terrible.

You've got to fake it, until you make it.

Yeah, he was much better today, wasn't he. But IMO he needs to Try to 'come out of himself more',,, to be more verbally assertive to his players.

Posted

wouldnt be too worried about it atr the moment. Hes a class act. Maybe whats not helping him so much is that the other forwards are starting to put out s bit more and they are not so green reliant. Will wait and see

Posted

Those who argue that captaincy couldn't be impacting his game should surely now acknowledge that it may be having an impact, given Green himself has come out and said it's been affecting him.

IMO he needs to Try to 'come out of himself more',,, to be more verbally assertive to his players.

He should just do what's made him a successful AFL player.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
