Melbourne Captain Announcement [Merged]

Check out the video on the melbournefc site

It would be great to see this video - but as usual Bog Pond have put a territory block on viewing it outside their pond (Oz).

I had hoped this season, somehow, they would see the error of their ways ...seems they are still bogged down in a poor mindset!

Please MFC, don't penalize those of us, who don't live in Australia.

We might be a long way away, but we are still paid up members.

More, you would think the AFL would not like this situation. It hardly helps the game develop internationally - does it ???

Having got that off my chest - congratulations to Greenie, Davey, Moloney and Rivers.

You all deserve to be leaders of our club as we rise to the top !!

Congratulations to Brad Green, he is the right choice! He's the hamburger with the lot.

Thought it was a pretty good speech by brad.

Shows how proud he is of this great club.

I love our club. All the years of pain and hurt we've been through, it'll all be so worth it when we are standing there on the last day of the season with our arms in the air celebrating victory. That day will come, and it will be amazing.

Congrats to Brad Green. I have a feeling that the way he wears the captaincy over the next two, maybe three, years will cement him as a rue great of the footy club.

A bit surprised at the Rivers decision though. Wasn't really aware he was held in that high regard at the club. It's a pleasant surprise though. He's obviously matured greatly from the young tool beating up Swedes in Bali (or wherever that was). Perhaps that was all Brock's bad influence.

Anyway, good on you Greeny. Carn the Dees!

As has been noted several times it is very difficult to judge leadership unless you are part of the group, but this all feels right to me. I like Green as captain, he has been around a long time as a loyal demon and has developed into a consistent and courageous player. Davey, Moloney and Rivers each bring something different. I love the two youngsters Grimes and Jones being in the leadership group.

Agreed. He had his chance to walk during the dark years but stuck it out with us.

Good going Brad, well done.

I think its a great choice. a few years ago Brad was dropped from the leadership group and he worked on how to become a leader. He didnt sook or crack it he just worked though on how to get back.

I loved the passion he showed today when speaking baout how proud he is to be captain of the oldest club.

But the thing I loved was when he said its great to announce it at the MCG. Our home ground where teams come to play us. Loved that bit.

I like the look of the leadership group. Come on dees!

A well deserved reward for Brad. Good to see Jarred there too. These two guys last season demonstrated they were not going to be part of the passing parade of Daniher era players. They are up for the future challenges. And well deserved accolades for Davey and Moloney too.

What I like best is that in his early years it was plainly evident how much skill he had but that he was quite rightly perceived as soft at the contest. Green recognized this and developed his game and mental strength to the point where I now consider him the most courageous in the team. A fantastic lesson to our young blokes not only about making the most of your god given talents, but to identify your weaknesses and turn them into your strengths. Good on ya Greeny!

Congrats to Riv, Beamer & Flash also....

Been a bit emotional today getting the sniffles listening to Brad's speech to the players and being enraged by the smarmy, sarcastic comments on AW by Dwayne Russell who suggested he used to be a bit soft . I'll never forgive Essendon for their deliberate monstering of the teenage Green in the 2000 G.F. culminating in a potentially fatal injury. As long as he has played, bravely backing into packs to mark has been a trade mark . It seems that good looking players are often automatically deemed to be "soft " without a shred of evidence.

Contests brad...

Now let's review the trolls from five years ago where people said he was soft... Pretty funny how wrong our resident keyboard heroes can be...

This was the right choice... But at the same time you feel for Beamer and Aaron...

This decision sits very comfortably with me. I've been really pleased with the way he's played such consistent footy over the last couple of years, with 2010 obviously being an outstanding year. Over the years I've changed my mind a number of times over who the next captain should be, but by the time the 2010 season had started, there was nobody but Green for me.

Congratulations and good luck Brad.

Persons who thinks Brad Green is soft are obviously confusing him with someone else.

Seriously?

Who has said that? Many here have (rightfuly) stated that Brad used to be that way incined, but a lot of credit to him he has managed to change his game and is now one of the bravest players going around - no mean feat.

And Dappa, not sure why you're going on about "keyboard heroes," IMO many at the club (including possibly Brad himself) would feel he used to be a little "soft."

Agreed, it was the Soccer player in him early on.

Correct choice to lead the club, will no doubt kick a few "Captain's goals" this year.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
