  1. Possibly. Either way i think we’re keen to move up further and we’d still do that to get pick 3. Drive a harder bargain and get one before pick 18 if its going to get north pick 1 and 6. Mckercher, duursma or watson gets shaken out that way and a chance for sanders for north at 6.
  2. Definitely gives some room for a big fish. Who are the free agents of 2024? Im thinking we are every chance not to have a first round pick after this trade period so free agency could be good for us. HP might mean we get one from adelaide if he requests and we relent next year.
  3. something that’s been bugging me as I'm not 100% across the list rules and ability for teams to stockpile picks for players that are bid on. I note gc and dogs have 10 picks each to match academy and father son. I was of the impression you could only have as many picks as you have list spots available. Does this mean that after delistings, retirements and trades that both those teams have a few players that remain unsigned to fulfil this requirement and following the the draft they are then re signed? Does the gold coast still have the concession of a larger possible list size they were granted as part of the list concessions a few years ago? is there an opportunity to scour these lists and pry one out as a delisted free agent as if you are uncontracted after the draft you can delist yourself and sign where you like before list lodgements? I’m not sure who’d be available but if the list rules are as i think they are, it’d be worth investigating.
  4. Dogs have traded future 1st to get pick 4. hawks/north wont trade future first as it could be top 5 pick again. we have no qualms trading a future first. Will prob want something back though.
  5. Yeah think we need to snag a lycett or hayes as a delisted free agent. Surely ine of them is about to be cut with port picki g up 2 rucks in the trade period
  6. 6 and 11 for 3 and 18 3 and future 1st for 1 and future second
  7. I think its a good sensible move. Need some depth and experience to replace what we have lost in jordan and harmes. Haven't really addressed our obvious key fwrd needs but im sure they tried. I think the grundy experiement really has cost us a year in terms of geting in the ears of a key fwrd, either last trade period or this one. Dont think we wont still try and move up the draft board
  8. To me this has a last minute ‘oh yeah we’ll take him feel’ like lachie hunter last year
  9. I think riv and mcvee are signifficantly positionally different from billings and so can still have both. Brayshaw jordan laurie and harmes minutes he would take if in the seniors. Not riv or mcvee. i am looking forward to seeing mcvee after another pre season. Work on one on one strength and get him chasing kozzie all pre season.
  10. I’d be interested in picking up Jack Billings. Saints are pushing him out so hardly going to cost much in draft capital. I think if we spread his 2 year contract over 3 years he’s a good james jordan replacement. Think we would like him to push into the midfield and he has ability. We need some depth in the mid with dunstan and jordan and likely harmes off our list.
  11. Im thinking outside the box here. Say we dont have a big fish on the hook and we suddenly have a fair bit of salary cap space - jordan, hibberd, harmes, grundy. Thats well over $1 mil spare could to benefit us, we trade grundy to swans and say we pay sydney his 600k salary for a year. And even 400k the year after but bringbit forward to next near they give us pick 11 sydney pays some of that money to jordan and it inflates his value per the comenatory pick we get. So it ends up being a first or end of first round? jordan wins the most out of this but also sydney get grundy and and extra mil in the cap for a year. Melb get a decent trade value and conpenstation pick for grundy and jordan.
  12. I for one am stoked we no longer have an O’Brien on our list
  13. it's the opportunity cost I am talking about. we don't use pick 47 as there is no spot on the list for that pick if we take a Delisted free agent
  14. with crameri and hartung and any other delisted player for that matter, it is pick 47 that we would be giving up for them. Pick 47 would have landed any delisted player that's been mentioned and we have already thought better of it. Before you say we're sitting back to make a decision at a later date to consider the options, well this draft period if anything we went and got things done that the club wanted. all these fringe players coming up as delisted options, we have already said not to in effect giving up pick 47 for them. Pick 47 will be coming with us on draft night.
  15. boyd deal only helps one manager. the total salary cap stays the same so logic said says the slice of the pie for managers stays the same. players coming out of contract are still contracted through the trade period until the end of October. hence the need for the club to trade. once the free agency years kick in, the control is removed from the club in the case of unrestricted free agents at this time.
  16. free agent Gaff would be nice to add to that list next year
  17. Mate, This time of year and from about june onwards, the draft is all we have had to look forward to the past 10 years. a good trade/draft period helps with that outcome. i barrack for the MFC in everything. and i am sick of losing and the club being a laughing stock. i'll support a red and blue painted fly climbing up a wall if i thought it'd help us achieve a flag.
  18. Lever was not any kind of free agent. just out of contract. and yes if i were the dogs or pies i would take him in the draft if it got that far. but Melbourne stated offer of a first and second was about right. Even if it cost a bit more but avoiding the loss of next years first rounder i could understand. However, using the arbitrary points associated with the pick to equate it to pick 5 i don't really agree with. As i said before, that only comes into things when father sons or academy players are up for grabs. Anyway. it's done now and there was and is nothing i can do about it. Go Dees.
  19. we have no picks in the rookie draft
  20. at no time have I said Adelaide didn't pay overs for gibbs. of course you'd rather lever than gibbs. I don't think it is a choice between 2 first rounders or lever or gibbs either. I have argued that trading next years first rounder so as to give Adelaide exactly what they wanted was not great negotiating. Carlton's definitely benefitted from our negotiating that is for sure. I heard on the radio peter Jackson talking about the points value of picks. The points value of picks only really matters when your are trying to claim a father son or academy player. The odds of a first round pick are much better than the odds of a second round pick in turning out to be a 200 gamer. And in the context of what many in the industry judge to be a strong draft next year, i believe we should have stood firmer than we did. I do hope with our 2, 3rd rounders next year that we may be able to benefit as we have in the past from the points and bidding system in jumping up the draft. There are a lot more father sons and academy players on offer next year for us to take advantage of this. A few years down the track as always we will be able to judge the lever and watts deals with greater knowledge. I look forward and really hope that picks 31 and 36 are wisely selected and so that these deals can be judged a success for us. I also hope that Adelaide's selection from us is pick 18 next year, in which case these deals will be long forgotten or considered a masterstroke.
  21. it's this performance that I hope burns in his gut and drives him beyond the preseason standards he set before his AA year. An AA ruckman in 2018 will go a long way to us doing alright in September.
  22. I wouldn't pick anyone this year to play ruck in any of our 4 picks left to fill our list. Pederson/TMac provide enough backup for gawn. maybe next year. Pederson only has one year contract and tmac is a free agent. may be looking for a whole new back up department. Yes I know gawn is also a free agent but he ain't leaving.
  23. But on the balic deal. I think pick 66 was fair for a talented kid but with some question marks on whether he is suited to the afl lifestyle. 1 year contract is also a good thing from the clubs perspective
