The mail is that Billy Stretch was rested as a precaution from last Saturday’s annual SA Under-18 Academy trial match due to a sore groin but is expected to play a major role in his state's defence of the National Championships in May to July.

Doesn't matter anyhow, I spoke to him at the carnival last year and he said to me, if I am good enough to be picked up by the dees, it would take him at least another year together his body right due to his lightweight.Got a body like a jockey.

Most likely under Roos would be a contender in 2017 at the earliest.

Billy Stretch (179cm, 68kg forward - Glenelg)

Yet another F/S pick for Melbourne, right now I would have him going in the second round. And that's a big jump from where I would have rated him this time last year. But he was one of the real surprises for me last season, so if he can continue with that sort of development in 2014 then he could easily keep climbing the draft order. He's similar to Jay Kennedy Harris, although I do slightly prefer Stretch due to his extra height - but having said that, I wasn't as high on JKH as others. Stretch showed this year that his best football is played on a forward flank, pushing up to the wings and through the midfield. He has a very good endurance base, which allows him to play this role well. All he really needs to show this year is that his midfield game is developing, he wont ever be an inside ball winner but he could be dangerous on the outside.

Interesting that so many are making assessment of where he should be selected based on the heresay of experts - with no-one really having seen him play too much - probably the same experts who had Scully and Trengove ahead of Martin, who had Toumpas ahead of Wines and Salem ahead of Dunstan.

We listen to these experts when it suits us - right up until the draft pick goes pear-shaped then "our recruiters are incompetent and should have known better".

Wait how old is he? and we "are" getting him?

Is available for next years draft I believe and he was at preseason - apparently goes ok and there is the romantic notion of him playing for the club ( Billy dreams of it) - apart from that - the rest is guesswork.

Thought I would have heard a bit more about him

So he's available at the end of the season?

And Lovett next season?

Not safe to assume though, as Jake Lever is also named and he is out due to a knee reco in December.

I think they've just listed the entire squad.

Good article on Billy seems like he may play a couple of league games which is good to hear.

Was just about to post this, the journalist here is a family friend and her first piece published in the Adelaide advertiser. I must congratulate her on not asking if he really wants to play for the worst performed team of the past 50 years :)

Who cares just because his old man played for the club doesnt mean he is an automatic selectio.Let the play play for gods sake!

"It's something a bit out of my control. Obviously I'd love to play for Melbourne but there's still so much to go yet and I'm just trying to keep the enjoyment up in my footy," Stretch told AFL.com.au in London on the AIS-AFL Academy's European tour.

"Whether it happens or not, we'll just have to wait and see.

No stretch for billy

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
