Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How is meeson a development coach when he can't develop himself... mizzare even for silly season

Is meant to be a very astute player regarding coaching.. and off field matters, and i think it isnt exactly his fault how injury prone he is, i think this is a really positive move for him and the club. Apparently did alot of work off field with Casey during his periods being injured

What else was he going to do after being injured for nearly 18 months?

I wonder what your source is on his astuteness re coaching. He showed very little nous as a player. Athletic..maybe when fit. Footy Smarts...Not obvious as a player.

So you think the club went "poor Meesen, we feel sorry for him, let's put him on the payroll for the hell of it".

I'm sure he has shown enough credentials to those that matter in order to score the job, and good on him. Some of the poorest players make the best coaches.

Wow you must be a genius! The Meese played 4 games for the Dees and 2 for Adelaide I think. And he showed little nous???

Glad you aren't recruiting for the club.

6 whole games! Wow, he sure showed us all!

I can't see how Meesen as a player could be assessed as anything other than an abject failure. Injuries notwithstanding he showed next to nothing as a player at either club.

With that said, I don't agree that that has any bearing on his ability to coach though. Being able to critically analyse physical techniques is a completely different skill than applying those techniques yourself. If he really does have an eye for coaching then best of luck to him.

Agreed wholeheartedly.

I don't know how good a player any of the great minds on demonland were, but it matters little when it comes to coaching.

And at school Meesen wasn't your stereotypical big dopey ruckman.

My brother went to school with him and he was pretty switched on.

Perhaps the club feels indebted in some way due to the deal that was done last year to demote him to the rookie list whilst still contracted.

On face value he did an honorable thing and helped the club when he was under no obligation to do so. Same with Newton.

He may be collecting the footies, running errands etc and making a dollar doing it whilst studying. Good on him.

He does have a point though. Injuries aside, Meesen showed very little in his 6 AFL games, and even less for Casey in the VFL in 2008-2009. Let's hope coaching is his calling, because (let's be honest) he wasn't much chop as a player.

All the best, Meese. Hope you turn out to be a ripper coach!

I presume that'd be E26, rather than E24? B)

Have to come in and bat for Meesen here because I actually attended a Casey's home games and was part of the huddles. He has a fantastic understanding of the game, and was a huge reason why so many of the kids developed their game. At quarter time and 3 quarter time he would pull players aside and dissect what what happening, then started formulating strong football tactics to help get the players back on top.

If you want to slam him for his playing then that is fine, but Meesen knows more about football than anyone on this forum so how about stepping off the guys nuts for 5 minutes and give him a chance.

Well said. It's not his fault he's had all these injuries. He wouldn't still be around if he didn't have other exceptional qualities. The couple of games I saw him play, I liked his attitude and saw potential in him if could string together half a season or so.

He played two seasons at Casey and Sandringham. Some of his games in the VFL were so underwhelming that even the sugar and treacle coaches reports on the website could barely talk up Meesen's performances.

Clearly you are a smart one.

Fine. But when the umpire held the ball in the air to start the quarter Meesen just did not have a clue as a player. I hope he turns out to be a better Coach than player. In some respects it would not be hard.

I'd back the clubs opinion, they spend more time with him than the keyboard coaches. They have shown with the delisting of our captain that they don't hang onto players for sentimental reasons, they must think that he will add value in his new role.

Damn straight.

Good luck to Meesen, he was hard done by as a player.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
