Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If Nathan Jones goes...

Should surprise no-one. We have surplus, quality, young mids and more coming through. There aint room for all.

You can probably add Morton to any speculation.

AND, NO, I am not suggesting Jones (or any other) should be traded. But there will be rationalising of some sort. No doubt. More likely the odd player will be asking to be traded if they think their future at MFC is in the balance, and there are better opportunities elsewhere. (eg McLean)

Interesting times.

I can only assume those of you who would keep Jones at all costs were also very happy with how the Ryan Ferguson / Brad Sewell non-trade played out?

After all, Ferguson was a player who tried very hard and bled for the club, as was evidenced by the fact that he begged the senior coach at the time not to trade him (who subsequently caved - nice one).

I thought is was more that Ferguson didn't agree to the trade. And as both players have to agree (Sewell did :o ), the trade fell over.

If Jones goes, we have Tappy and McKenzie to step up, plus already Moloney is our one paced midfielder

If someone offers u a second, maybe third round pick for him id consider him gone I think

I love the way Jones applies himself but I've never seen a top line player make as many bad/wrong decisions as he does so you have to assume that he's not a top line player. He goes left when he should go right, he goes back when he should go forward, he still thinks he is playing underage football where he can burst through the tackle with his strength, but he isn't and he can't.

Up to last year he was the most tackled player in the competition and the reason for that is he hangs on to the ball too long.

This is just staggering stuff. His disposal, particularly by foot, was second only this year to Aaron Davey. With daylight to the rest. There also seems to be this hangover impression that he gets caught with the ball. This year, almost never. His ability to make the right decision with the ball, was, and I reiterate THIS year, as he has vastly improved, the best of the midfield. The FD realise this, and I'd be stunned if they moved him on.

finally someone on this forum sees the reality. Jones gets the toughest gig week after week tagging the opps' best onballer. He played his best when Baloney was injured and he was able to get the ball and use it. As for his disposal, I saw him do some daisy cutters this season that most of other Dees onballers (Davey excepted) can only dream about. Stop looking at stats. When you get the ball you can either chip it 20 meters sideways or try and hit a more difficult target. That's why Davey and Jones make more mistakes than those who only chip it sideways. (best example, our recently retired (and Danihers love child) Nathan Brown. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but try to base them on what happens on field and not stats or observations of media nuff nuffs eg Walls, Sheahan, Darcy etc.

Seriously. If he was the 2nd best kick in our team then this thread would not exist because we would have renewed his contract a long time ago.

I can only find 4 I'd rate as "good" - DAVEY, GREEN, JURRAH and SYLVIA

Its a major problem if we want to be a contender

Those same people calling for him to be traded are the same people that bleat about our midfield being constantly outmuscled and beaten at the contests and clearances.

Whilst he may not be in the best 22 down the track, until we get 2 or 3 pre-seasons into Scully, Trengove, Gysberts, McKenzie, Blease et al, then we need players with his size and strength still.

could not agree more which is what this thread is all about, we need Jones at least for the short term.

Don't think Nasher is liking the topic though hence the needling!

Nasher, you need to read carefully, no one said at all costs keep Jones, and may I ask, is it on record that Fergie BEGGED to be kept on the list! Don't recall that one.

You must be baffled by his B&F rating.

This may seem an odd question, but what is the basis for this thread? I've been looking at the papers and the AFL site, even Jones' twitter page, and there is no mention of him being traded. Has this all come from one poster's fevered imagination?

It has come from a stupid rumour by Damien Barrett on the footy show Thursday night.

No proof or anything of the like, just a comment because he had no other real news.

During the same segment he said Andrew Walker was out of contract and looking gold coast bound...turns out he isn't out of contract at all. Quality journalist that Barrett.

I'm surprised you're still here.

Aren't we all. Gone, then has come back...now threatening to go again if Jones goes.

This guy has already "quit" Demonland once (had his account removed and everything) - but he seems to be back, so...

and so??

so if you go again...will you be back again after flipping out ? You make Copperfield look like an amateur. ;)

I think that we can't really evaluate whether trading any player (not just Jones) is a good or bad idea until we know what we might be getting in return. The club would be irresponsible not to listen to offers on any player that came up in trade talks. However some of the inconsistencies in opinion on here frustrate me a little. We have two players on our list currently in our best 22 who are one paced, perceived to have average disposal and bleed for the club. Both have a 2nd placing in the B&F on their CV but one is 22 and the other 26. Can you pick which one people are advocating to trade and which one people are advocating for captain? Not saying either is necessarily right or wrong but the double standards surprise.

And people are getting a bit ahead of themselves saying our flag winning midfield contains gysberts, tapscott, blease etc. They've played a collective total of three games.

Great use of your admin powers there HT. Are you by chance profiling members? Is this a particular grudge of yours or do you just check for dirt on all posters?

I better watch my back

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
