Salopek Wants Out

Recommended Posts

There are many players who have been recycled to another club because they haven't been able to perform at their first club, and once recycled they have become a major part in their new team so why can't he do the same?

He obviously has good talent as he was a top draft pick, the only worry is if he has the desire and considering he has played in the SANFL reserves is not a good sign, but as said above putting him on the permission to train list would be a good choice. if it turns out he really wants it then we should take him, if not then i don't know what's next for him.

id be curious. .. At least a permissionto train as suggested..for a good look see and medical.

He however might think hes worth more already...who knows

The guy has all the attributes but was just out of favour. Hard, tough, couragous, good kick. Not overly quick but a quality footballer. Primus stuffed him around and he deserves a go. I hope we get him

He might just fit the moneyball idea. Not a world shattering player but a good one indeed very good one if fit etc and might come at a good value type price.

I have no doubt Neeld knows the ideal is to grown your own and seed youth into a good culture and faiclities and let them develop. He also knows he needs some success on the board in the near future. It'll be a balancing act between the two goals.

Lets get him.

Would be a good pickup.

Would be our second best midfielder behind Jones.

Can we stop with this sort of crap please?

I am undecided on Salopek, mostly because all we know at the moment is that he has left Port and wants another chance .... not much to go on is it?

But when I see such assertions as you have made above, I'm sorry but you look foolish ...

At the very least will strengthen the seconds, if cheap why not?

i have no problem having a look at him. I'd assume he'd be an upgrade from Couch etc

Grossly mismanaged by Port Adelaide, get him back down to his proper playing weight and he can make it, he'd also come very cheaply. Worth a punt imho

rookie is about all.

i wouldnt mind putting him on the permission to train list. see how badly he wants it.

The Unrestricted Free Agency trade period finishes Oct 19. If he is to go to another club by this method, it must be by then. (Not sure if training has even started by then.)

Permission to train would only apply if he is to go into the draft (and rookie draft is only way he can be rookied).

The main problem with him is his disposal. He used to turn the ball over regularly and 36% of his turnovers resulted in opposition scores. He has always been basically an outside player, and his highest b&f finish was 6th in his 2nd year. He just got progressively worse.

I don't think we need another one paced outside mid with very ordinary disposal.

Interesting that in September 2010 Salopek signed a three year deal with Port Adelaide for $1m:-

"PORT Adelaide midfielder Steven Salopek has committed to the club for a further three years under a deal worth almost $1 million."

Means that unless that deal's cancelled, he owes Port another year and they owe him $333,333.33.

Interesting.

I'm sure we have had a thread about this bloke before. B) If we get him this time around you would have to laugh.

Maybe E25 got it wrong - or the newspaper got it wrong. Maybe both parties are happy to walk away this time.

Or the AAP got the numbers wrong...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
