Strauss now knows what it's like at the next level.

I'm not sure he did much wrong, but I don't think he's quite at the level he needs to be to deserve a game just now.

Let him dominate at VFL level for a while.

Surprised Bartram has kept his spot. He won't for long.

I doubt Garland will play, i think he'll need another week.

Interesting to note the order in which the interchange bench is in: I/C (from): Garland, McKenzie, Nathan Jones, Newton, Bate, Cheney, Spencer.

Surely if there is no preference, it would be done by alphabetical order. Maybe Garland will play this week :)

Why do supporters think young bloke have a mortgages on more game time if they dont deeserve it. If the Footy dept dont rate the performance in those games surely they shouldn't be carried.

That theory would rule out playing Garland early on, Bennell, Jetta.

It does fly in the face of giving young blokes a good 4 or 5 games to show something, hence my point.

With Strauss out we need both an extra defender and preferably a tall defender at that. If he's fit they will have to think long and hard about playing Garland. He's been running for what, over a month now? Played in 2 competitive games. He's ideally suited to Walker and could be an option for Dangerfield or the Porpoise.

From there it has to be Newton (need the ruck and forward back up), Jones, McKenzie. Which is bad news for Bate, but if he does get dropped I'd expect him to bounce back very quickly.

I would like to see both Bate and Jones go to Casey to dominate for a week or two... get some momentum and confidence back up

He's either plying while not 100%, or he's out. Either result is good for us.

I have to say I picked it. IN: Sylvia, OUT: Strauss is a good decision. Strauss wasn't too productive on the week-end. He didn't do anything bad, but he didn't do enough good to warrant selection again. He'll be a good player though.

Completely agree. I called that Strauss would spend some time at Casey, and it seems a few posters didn't feel it was warranted. I think he needs a couple of weeks to get the panic out of his game. As I've said before, just a very short term thing. Strauss will be a very good player for us.

Nobody owes anyone anything, but it's good to be right once in a while.

I wouldn't know!

Haha was just having a laugh mate.

Don't see much wrong with it. I'd have liked the boy to have a bit more game time, but the team should stay as settled as possible and Sylvia was always going to come in. Garland will probably come in next week/the week after for Bartram or Dunn. We'll see.

Using your thought process Bennell can feel very lucky to be in the team considering he panicked far more than Strauss did. Would have liked to see Strauss get another chance and Melbourne make a point by dropping Bennell.

Totally agree - it's time for this list to earn their keep. Last year and 2008 was the year for freebies to see if they can play.

Btw, Bartram vey lucky....

Liking the ins. Bench will be in order named. Colin Garland, Jordie McKenzie, Nathan Jones, Matthew Bate,

Sylvia and Garland in for Strauss and Newton.

Strauss has had his taste and now knows what is required. Anyone that thinks an inexperienced Strauss is better value than a 80% fit Garland has rocks in their head.

Newton was ok last week as filler but Jamar will ruck all day against the Crows.

Sends a message to Jones and Bate that more is required which I like.

No it doesnt.

Why do young blokes need a good 4 to 5 games to show something? Is that for the supporters benefit who only see them once a week?

The coaching staff would be monitoring a player from the day he walks in the door, every training session, every club attendance session, every Casey session and game. Dont you think they develop a deep knoweldge about players that arms length members could only dream about?

Well done. Maybe you should check a recording of last week's game and make sure you haven't got your analysis of Strauss's game wrong. It's not to late to contact the selection committee/

Strauss is stiff to get the axe for sure, but someone has to make way for Sylvia. Batram, well I think this will be the first of my posts that will get a comment or 2. we need to play him again this round to see once and for all if he can handle it at this level. Remember, he had a awesome first year as a player, and copped a terrible injury at the end of that year. Has he ever totally recovered?

Also his dad passing away last year would be really tough on a young guy. I still think he is a good stopper, but yes when he has the ball my heart is well and truly in my mouth. GO DEE'S.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
