  1. I would love to see Grimes and Trengove as co-captains for the year as I said in a previous post, and have them settle and fight for the full captaincy for 2013. Davey, Green and Moloney are not leaders and their time is soon to be up as valuable as they will be for us in the next couple years. They need to play a mentoring role this season. We need to blood youth.
  2. Yeah the injury cloud is a great concern. It's such a shame as I think he's a born leader. Would the club be willing to take a gamble?
  3. I'm a big big big fan of Grimesy. But more so after the events of the past couple weeks. His interview at the Best and Fairest was particularly good. He's well spoken (in my opinion the best media friendly player at the club) and extrudes leadership through his expressions, comments and speech. Winning the leadership award in a year when leaders were extremely scarce and questioned, having only played a handful of games tells me that the respect for him at the club despite his age is greater for those in the twilight of their careers. But to be modest and acknowledge Brad Green took great courage. Finally, and correct me if i'm wrong or if anyone knows any better, but he also seems to be working pretty hard in the off season already with his fitness. Granted he's well behind the the others in terms of fitness, but this guy has dedication to get his body right. Massive man crush. Injuries or not... Jack Grimes/Jack Trengove as our co-captains for 2012 in a trail year, and for one to be promoted as proper captain for 2013 depending on pressure, performance and injury. Discuss.
  4. Hey does anyone know what's happening to CB? He's not listed in the injuries and no articles posted on him from what I can see. He's such an integral part of our backline with his good decision making.
  5. Does anyone know if he made the final sprint for half time? Had $10 on him with a mate.
  6. Not sure if its been mentioned on here, but at one point two of the WC players got stuck into Scully and were pushing him around like a pinball. Junior ran 50mtrs out of his way and smashed into the two of them breaking the scruffle up. Was good leadership I thought. And in the second half Watts was easily able to defend himself I thought. Did quite well standing up to the bigger bodies.
  7. I can't believe some people are voting for Bartram. I don't like him. Not a fan. But he was a champion amongst losers today. Played really well, fought hard and got us out of trouble countless times. Silly, deserves another go.
  8. Any word on Morton? Just heard Aussies name on radio. Good to hear he's not injured.
  9. Did anyone attend Junction Oval today? Any reports? My dad attended and said that he was sure the group that trained in the main session were likely to be the group under consideration for selection tonight. Gysberts and Miller were present as well as PJ however he did not sight Martin and said that Jurrah and Aussie didn't train with the main group however Jetta was. He also took these photos... (bad quality camera phone sorry)
  10. This is the worst thread on here. You're a joke mate.
  11. Couldn't agree more. He's doing more harm than good. Just look to the third quarter for that example. Melbourne were struggling early on, and Bruce came in with useless handballs and kicks which missed the target. Enter Tom Scully, grabs the ball and kicks in 50mtrs to break open the game and result in a goal. Bruce clearly cannot adapt to the gameplan. Even when we were playing well a couple weeks ago he would tend to handpass backwards instead of forwards and put the man recieving in a lot of trouble. He needs a run in the two's. Same with Rivers. It's time to play the younger kids. On average North were younger and less experienced in terms of games. No excuses for the loss on the weekend. Bar the umpiring and the quality of the ground
  12. The reality is, he needs game time and that can only happen with the selection panel choosing him. With Martin playing like shite and Ricky out injured, it's time to take a gamble with Watts and Wona (when fit). Both these two need serious game time if we are to 'win' a flag in 2-3 years time. Theres no point bringing in Miller or PJ or Newton. How many chances do those three need? Our future forward line lies with LiamJ, JWatts, AussieW, RickyP, MBate and CSylvia.
  13. Can he qualify for Rising Star or is he too old?
  14. How good was he on the weekend? Great return and a fantastic forward option for us while we wai on the returns of Aussie, Liam and Morton. One question I have however, is did anyone see Colin Sylvia bump any specific player for a possible reportable offence on Sunday? I've been told by some idots at work that he will be cited for a big bump with his elbow on one of the Richmond players, however I was at the match and then watched the replay when I got home, and did not see anything bar the Moloney bump.
  15. The spelling in this particular post is horrible.
  16. Im even bringing some mates who support other clubs! Now that's dedication.
  17. Did anyone see Colin's (Garland and Sylvia) and also Blease? Did Watts do a full session? I was having lunch on Bay St today and walked right past Colin Sylvia. By the time I realised it was him it was too late, but now regret not asking him how his jaw is going. He looked fit and chirpy which was good. This was at around 1pm so I'm guessing training was in the morning?
  18. Were we at the same game? Bennell gave a lot of speed and off the ball chasing to the forward line. As did Newton who I thought was very serviceable. Both deserve another game. Strauss maybe not, but this kid needs games. Bate and Bruce and Bartram need to be looked at. Sylvia in!
  19. Why didn't Jack Watts play? Please don't tell me he's injured again? Unless he's an emergency for Sats game which I find highly unlikely.
  20. The point is if you have a look at the players that are playing week in week out, you cant really use the inexperience excuse. Moloney, Joel Mac, James Mc, Jamar, Jones, Moloney, Rivers, Davey, Miller, Bate, Petterd, Green, Bruce and Lynden all had the game time and experience and are essentially the core of the team that played on Sat. You cannot use the youth excuse when 14 or more of your starting 22 are as experienced as those. Also add Frawley, Warnock to that mix and you have 16 players that are big bodied and experienced enough to play decent footy. Something is typically wrong if those guys cant hit a target by foot or hand on a consistent basis. Also something is wrong when in the third quarter, you prey Scully gets the ball so that he can dodge traffic and hit a target 50 metres up the field unlike 14 said teamates. Something is also wrong when Grimes, Scully and Trengove have played around 10 games in total between them and they are three of your best players, along with an ageing captain. The club is going backwards. However on a positive note: Jurrah, Wonna, Watts, Garland, Frawley, Grimes, Scully, Morton, Trengove, Bennell, Strauss. That looks nice on paper. And when we finally get our [censored] together, it'd be nice to have those guys making up half our starting team. Add Davey, Sylvia, Green etc to that and on paper, you could wll possibly have a strong team. Chin up folks. Future looks bright.
  21. Finally a decent post. He was amazing considering a first game. I like his attitude. Was a little bit nervous in the first with a few errant handballs, but as the game wore on he became more confident. Really love his direct approach and skill and tank. He, Grimes, Trengove, Jordie and Strauss should be really proud of the effort they put in today. Grimes for mine would have been best on field for Melbourne had he not have turned the ball over at certain crucial times, however his defencive work was outstanding. As much as Id like to see him in the middle, I think he's a better backman.
  22. Were we at the same game? Spencer tried hard all day, and I thought in the second half he really put his body on the line and worked hard off the ball. Deserves another chance. As for our captain, I thought he was fantastic today. Worked hard, led by example. In: Sylvia, Martin Out: Miller, Warnock
  23. Thanks for that. I'm really not sure. While I don't think Carlton or Essendon will make finals, I can't see Fremantle and North Melbourne finishing where he predicted. Very hard to tell just from pre-season results, but I also think he's pretty accurate in his assumptions. Forward line is a serious worry, however I can also see us winning 8 games or so towards the latter half of the year, which should bump us up to 11th or 13th on the ladder. Hmmm I hate admitting Melbourne is that 'average'.
  24. Have a read and tell me your thoughts... Fixed link For one, he has Fremantle pegged in the top 8...
