Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This whole episode i find amusing

TMac's quote in today's Hun

"It's not about kicking goals and getting touches, it's about doing things for the team and he's been really good about taking that on board"

I think getting touches and kicking goals is what footy is all about and thus this entire episode is one of the biggest media beat ups that we have seen in a long time. Proving there are far too many bog ordinary journalists who work with an AFL dog tag around their neck writing headlines like

"Jack's career on the line"

what a useless disgrace...

Vogon, I concede that the 'soft' call was a bit OTT but  I won't shy away from the call that in my opinion, the interviews with the 2 leaders in Gawn and Tmac spoke volumes that Watts has got a lot of making up to do. I base that on the evidence that Gawn mentioned the "2 to 3 weeks" of good training several occasions. Hardly vague if you're able to join the dots together.

Anyway, you're hypothesising just as much as anyone else on here so don't get too well settled on your golden pony.

No problems McQueen, I guess my point is we don't know what's gone on so to make any judgement is impossible.

The "good training" my relate to Watts now doing the team things as T Mc suggested and has nothing to do with effort or attitude. Really, in the end, who cares?  He's done the whole preseason, he's fit and he's best 22.  Some gentle realignment form the FD won't hurt.

Anyway this is my last post, something has gone wrong with the PR and sadly it could so easily have been avoided.

No.  The club should have known that Jack not being selected would raise a question when all other "best 22" players were picked.  "A simple throw away line by Goodwin that Tyson, Hibberd and Watts would all likely be right to go next week (he was asked) would have killed this whole issue.  Whatever Jack has done doesn't deserve the storm that has arisen.  All "in house" would know what's going on.  The message to the player and players is the same.  Watts isn't hung out to dry.

They didn't think it through.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't this all arise from certain "sources" claiming there was more to the Watts omission than just player management. If so, the players would've been questioned on it regardless.

I really think this entire thing is a non-issue from top to bottom.

So why am I discussing it?

Good question.

Good point, and if this is just a reminder and a refocusing attempt on Watts by the coaches, or even if it is about not meeting a KPI it should remain under the category of player management,?
The subsequent noise has almost made it into a player welfare issue!

This is all over a player missing a practice match right? ?

No, it's all over a senior player entering his ninth season not being considered for a best 29 squad due to unsatisfactory training standards.

A player who has had one good year in eight and seemingly gets pretty happy with himself a little too quickly.  A player that needs to be get dropped occasionally, like round 23 2015 so that he doesn't coast.

Goodwin and McCartney are ensuring he gets the message and understands the brand and standards required at the MFC 2017.

But yes, it's not a major issue.

Interested to see if you hold the same argument for why Jetta wasn't included?

If it was supposed to be the best 22 or 24 from our fit players, why was he excluded from both the team and the subsequent scrutiny?

Jetta has only recently returned to training with the main squad due to a quad injury.

Obviously they're careful of his loads following this recent stint in rehab.  The linked article from less than two weeks ago identifies this in the last paragraph.

But you're making it sound like a major issue.

Give the guy a break, if it was anyone else on our list we would be making excuses or saying it's a non issue.

Hopefully he plays the next 2 practice matches and then has another top 5 in the b&f.

Does anyone seriously think Goodwin cares about Jack's performances year 1 to 8?

Rhetorical question of course.

I can see Goodwin now... "oh, how on earth are we going to make Jack pay for his poor 2012 because it will effect how he performs in 2017, despite a breakout year in 2016, so he owes us, even though I wasn't here then!"

FMD.

I've said it's not a major issue (as far as I know).

The rest is stating FACT.

Mark Stevens has tweeted Jack will not be selected this week.

Then he tweeted: Melb going with theory of picking best side possible ... setting tone early. Reckon Watts will play R1 but battl on now

Hmm...Jack not in our best 22... battle on for round 1...

Its one thing for Goodwin to set the tone early and it is another to hang a player out to dry.  Goodwin must know how the media will have a gorge fest over it and hope he has a plan to support Jack in the background and publicly if the media frenzy eventuates.

Jesus.. Jack is a 25 year adult. Hasn't been out to hung dry like you claim. Knowing Goodwin who best renown for his relationship skills i have no doubt Goody has had Watts over for dinner and had a personal chat with him saying  we support and are right behind you. Tha would be enough for Jack.

Lets not forget, Jack brought this upon himself.

I'll be seriously concerned if he also misses the West Coast game.

Surely they'll be doing all they can to have a 38 goal a year forward into the lineup in our crucial round 1 game against St Kilda...surely!

I find it hard to accept that Weideman and VBD are going to get the nod ahead of him because they've trained better in January. One will get about 4 possessions having absolutely no influence and the other will turn the thing over every second time he gets the ball.

Time for the club to be transparent and come clean as to why he's been (effectively) suspended from the first two JLT games.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
