Should we start a 'nearest the pin'? 1. John Longmire 'sick of this ---' and leaving Sydney to become a senior assistant at West Coast. 2. Essendon arrested. Just, the whole club. Gotta be sure. I the US they called it a RICO case, I believe. 3. ATO to investigate Geelong after discovering 2/3rds of the Bellarine Peninsula is 'mysteriously' negatively geared.9 points

I can see how people could interpret the content of his speech in a few different ways, and tbh, the content was the least of my concerns. If ever there was a time to not have a number of crownies before making the most important speech in his time at the Club, it was then. Might seem old fashioned, but I also believe it was the time to shave, to not go with the trendy 3 day growth. I’d be rather confident that Sam Mitchell, McRae & Fagan won’t be slurring their words during their speeches. Was the absolute occasion where he had to take the totally conservative & professional leader type approach, and unfortunately he didn’t.9 points

Clazz to request trade due to concerns about Dees culture I'm hearing Clarry reckons a strong club would have traded him 12 months ago8 points

Have there been many circumstances where a fringe/depth player nominates for another club for more opportunity or more importantly for better family support with his young children and the club simply says no? I think what we're seeing is GWS promoting publicly that he's an important player to them they would like to keep, simply to raise the asking price. Its all posturing I reckon.7 points

Maybe they should give the bloke a game if he has so much going for him From what Ive seen of GWS he is a long way back in the pecking order - he will likely spend another year languishing in the 2s Not sure he’s in our best 22 but closer than GWS imo - not great player management from them tbh5 points

I can’t differentiate sarcasm & seriousness anymore on this site. This a good enough reason for Green to be ridiculed already? Please tell me you’re kidding5 points

Should have stay tuned. Looks like we're keeping our best two midfielders of the last 50 years and still have plenty of room in our salary cap to make a play for somebody else. Could be the biggest [censored] you to the media of all time if we snag someone unexpected.5 points

ANB for 28 is an absolute steal if Battle if worth pick 8. Both finished 3rd in their respective BnF’s. The only difference is one of them has a contract - and somehow he’s the one less valuable. Something wrong with the system if that’s the case.5 points

I don’t see the irony. The man is trying to change the culture of a fanbase. That’s admirable. Don’t think he’ll be successful though, that fan base has been full of bad eggs forever.5 points

The last two pages of this thread have [censored] me off for a number of reasons. I agree that it's pathetic to hang [censored] on the club at every opportunity but it's also pathetic to get on your high horse and tell someone that they're not a supporter when they critique the club's performances. We've seen the worst of these two extremes in this thread alone. Fwiw, the vast majority of my posts are positive but this is a football forum ffs.5 points

Fullarton isn’t good enough to play ruck. We know that from this year. Verrall’s too young/thin/inexperienced/incapable to play first ruck in 2025. There’s nothing strange or questionable about us taking an experienced ruckman to play in Gawn’s spot if required. The only question is whether Campbell is the best option for us.5 points

Given our track record of draft picks at the time, i don't imagine anyone could have predicted the fat red head kid that nobody else rated would become a legend of the mfc and have the members screaming to burn the house down if he was let go4 points

Yep they had periods of the season where Taylor Buckley and Aliir were out and ended up playing Keefe in a final can see why Dersken would feel hard done by Coach and list manager should have a chat4 points

Jesu Christe! This thread is full of Graduates [censored] [censored] Laude of the Zelensky Academy for Farcical Comedy. Sack the coach, sack the coach, sack the coach He a cockroach, knows SFA about the game will be replaced by Roffey the sooner the better that she came. So here's a coach who won a flag three years ago, got hammered by injuries towards the end of 2022, even more so late '23, was always two players down in '24, because of Angus and Smith, got hammered by injuries even more this season, and many armchair critics on this site are so in the know about what it takes to coach an AFL side that I'm stunned none of you are getting a gig. Then there are the 'gossip mongers', the clowns who believe every bit of Fantasyland blurted out by a very mediocre and biased media.4 points

Silly comparison. Campbell’s been playing one position - ruck - for 12 years. Tomlinson came to us as a jack of all trades and if he had form on a wing it was fleeting. Grundy we all know wasn’t a forward. Once again, the question on Campbell isn’t whether he’s the right type of player to add to our list. He’s precisely what we’re after, a ruckman who can be the number one ruck if required. The only question is whether he’s the best option for that role. His VFL form this year suggests he’s at least in the conversation.4 points

Very glad our stars are not looking like they'll be traded for now...I think after another full pre season and full season with them mentoring and playing with our young guns we might all feel differently come end of next year. The star players may have a better year with more success and will be happy sticking around if the club turns a corner, or if it's another poxy year but we get a year of experience into the youth and the older star players aren't pulling their weight as much and causing problems then perhaps we'd be more comfortable letting them get traded. Glad to have another year, I think it will be quite telling, lots to be excited about with the youth though getting another pre season and another year of AFL under their belts that's for sure. Glad Oliver and Trac and Kozzie will be there to play alongside them for 2025 and hopefully beyond!!4 points

I know of a premiership coach (within the last decade) who shared privately (not to me, admittedly) that he was astonished Goody had kept his job, something along the lines of ‘he’s just too close to his players’… whilst he didn’t elaborate, the feeling was he was saying ‘fun guy’ who doesn’t know the line between coach/boss and friend. Separately, I have heard from a player (directly) that goody is only the ‘much-loved coach’ to select players. If you’re a fringe player, you’re probably not one of goody’s ‘favs’ and you also then end up on the outer socially with him.4 points

Succinctly, I got bored s******s with the constant negativity and the same bullying minority who demanded everybody agree with them Unfortunately they still rule the forum to an extent, but I was asked by a few supporters and posters in person, as I don't feel the need to hide, to post again. I started on this topic as I knew the bullies would be out in force sniping at anything they could about the B&F. The disgusting comments about Goody supposedly slurring words, didn't seem that way live or the good conversation I had with him. I think a lot of the negativity these days comes from the team on match days spoiling a 'supporter's multi.4 points

I can tell you, that very question of, “why do the players love Goody so much” is definitely included in the review.4 points

The FA compensation picks have pushed it back but it doesn't really matter how much further back the Academy and F/S selections push it because those plyers aren't really available anyway. It will still be 28th pick in the available draft.4 points

McCartney once in a while likes to play this tough guy act after letting plenty leave and then randomly tell someone they have no interest in they can’t go to send a message would be awful to do that considering their situation. I remember they did it to Bobby Hill ill try find out more4 points

I didn’t say no one in our club is talking to Morris, I said no one from the board or Administration side of the club is talking to Morris, and I say it as our clubs board and administrators actions have repeatedly directly contradicted Morris’s reporting. There has been a concerted 3 year + campaign run through the courts and media with the intention of discrediting and removing Kate Roffey, Gary Pert and Simon Goodwin from our football club. In an interview earlier this year a certain doctor walking back his comments on the AFL illicit drugs policy said “I am only doing this to highlight Melbourne’s negative culture” and “there are only three or four people at the MFC that are the problem”. With Kate Roffey going this has only escalated. The MFC would’ve hoped Roffey leaving and the review would get us some clean air but within twelve hours of that announcement Micheal Warner was laying the faults of our club at Pert’s feet and stating he shouldn’t be involved in the review. Then multiple media outlets published statements from ex players and presidents that Goodwin should be sacked. The campaign continues. The fact media outlets are posting random open letters from supporters purely because they support this campaign adds more credence to this. In this context the idea that the board, Pert or Goodwin and the members of our administration are leaking to Morris is laughable. There might be leaks to other more trusted media sources, that as you say, are clunky attempts to reset the narrative. But Morris isn’t getting them firsthand. And because of the context of this campaign any information that could only truly be known by Gary Pert and officials from other clubs with their own motives (like say, getting a 4x B&F, Coaches award winner, premiership player who at their best is in the best 5 or so mids in the comp for a relatively low draft pick) is fraught. I don’t know whether Pert is a problem, or if he should be removed from the review, or if he did do something stupid with this Oliver situation and should be removed as a result. But given the context of the overt ongoing campaign against him and others at our club run through the media for over three years now I think we should all take any reporting with a large grain of salt.4 points

Agree wholeheartedly and made the exact same comment last night when I was tuning in live. His was slurring his speech. Some said it was nerves but it wasn't. I've seen him nervous at a press conference and it was nothing like last night. His introduction of Max Gawn as runner up was just plain weird and bizarre. Some odd pauses and not even a mention of a well deserved recognition for a 7th All Australian jumper.3 points

Ok... got back home at 2am. Found it slightly weird the Bluey Truscott himself, just got awarded his life membership in 2024. Overall, it was an interesting night. Although Goodwin (whom I rate) spoke a lot about 'process' I felt (projecting) that there were some very pointed comments re: selflessness or at least, not making it about your self, and that won't be 'tolerated' going forward. Whom that was to, you can have your guess. The overall messaging was about unity and fraternity, both in professional speak, and 'mateship' speak ie: 'Perty, Greeny' etc. Glad Roffey got to speak and her endeavors acknowledged. This was my first Bluey, and I have been to a range of other BnF's in a professional capacity over the last decade. Themes spoken about felt fairly generic, and for me the highlights were Ben Brown, Alex Neal-Bullen and Ed Langdon AND Angus Brayshaw, all guys who speak with emotional gravitas, and go beyond cliched sound bites. Richness and depth, about the existentialness of their careers. Effectively, your legacy, is the people you help support along the way, not just those that support you in your own journey.* Everyone at the club (organisation) from FD, to board to bootstuder and physio and high performance team are people with their own careers trying to do their best on any given day at any given moment. *Spoke to a former coach today over coffee this morning, who was quite clear that the general public/punters will never understand or accept, the realities of the scrutiny that the position holds and in effect, when you take the job, there are very few people on the outside who appreciate the isolation and loneliness that the job has with it, as everyone has an opinion on things that you can control, and things that they think you can control. You're on a hiding to nothing...but people would give their left nut... etc etc3 points
