I used to really enjoy lurking on these pages but the negativity is a real drag. I know that it's frustrating watching your team lose or not play their best, but being a supporter is also about celebrating wins. There were so many positives to take out of tonight. Yeah, we may not be playing our best footy, but we were so much better than previous week's. We led for the entire game for a start and barely kicked any behinds. The youth at our club stood up tonight. Kolt was amazing. That Kynan Brown tackle 🔥. Trent Rivers. Judd McVee. Jack Viney, Max Gawn and Steven May played really well. Petty had some impact! Our first and third quarters were really good. North Melbourne are not playing like a bottom side - they were really lifted in the last quarter and were hard to stop. We may not win the premiership this year, but there is a lot to hope for in the future. Every top 8 side has had a [censored] time recently - Sydney nearly didn't make the finals last year, Geelong missed them entirely. Collingwood were woeful in 2021. A win is a win, is a win, is a win.21 points

Can I bring some perspective. I was lucky enough to be at the Presidents function and the guest speaker almost brought me to tears. Her name is Toni and Steven May is her favourite and he wore her name on his warm-up vest. Look it up and see Toni's story as she met Maisie at Casey this week and there is an Insta photo of her with him post game. Diagnosed triple-negative breast cancer at the age of 31. Despite becoming infertile a surrogate derived her and hubby a family and then it returns and has metastasised to her brain. Somewhere in all this turmoil she wins the Amazing race and has the courage to state that statistically sometime this year she will become another victim of the cancer. She even stated it could be as early as October. I am not sure I could talk as candidly as she did to an audience. I really didn't mind her saying feck a lot and she was so brave, extroverted and I am glad Maysie played a blinder for her. Somehow the narrow win was nice be she left a legacy with me that goes beyond the game. My only complaint for the night (umpires aside) is the miserable crumb that thought they could pocket my MCC/MFC staff and pink beanie I left under my seat when I moved away briefly at the end of the game. Not our best night but we won. I am so proud of this club for its commitment to Pink Lady and MND. The rest well, it is only a game and the sun came up this morning.20 points

Sorry but this gets fined but the countless of other garbage staging we’ve seen for years doesn’t? There is not a day that goes by where I don’t hate the AFL more I didn’t like it and I’m fine with the punishment. Just be consistent tho for goodness sake. Nick Daicos would NEVER get fined for doing the same and worse.16 points

We have a player who is the best contested ball player I have ever seen and who was instrumental in our 21 flag. He is my favourite player. He is struggling atm. He has had no pre season, injuries, personal issues and plenty of mates in the team also in poor form. Yes his disposal is not great atm and until last night was still at least getting a lot of the ball. He had a hard tag yesterday, where he was constantly infringed and once even thrown to the ground without the ball again without a free and yet is constantly being harshly treated by the umpires. He handballs away in a split second and is then pinged for throwing or htb. The club has not come out and had a go in the media about this to support him, which most other clubs do and would. That could help. It is disappointing. He will come good again, but it might not be his best until next year, when he can have a proper pre season and get over his injuries and other issues. We need to support him and get off his back. He has given us plenty and maybe we should give a bit back. Go Clarry and Go Dees.14 points

She’ll be disappointed like the rest of us. But that’s the life of a sports fan. Disappointment most of the time. All we can demand is effort and commitment from the team. And we got that consistently for the last 3 years. Something has gone awry this year. No idea what but its not a happy camp based on the performances delivered. The rest is the vagaries of sport. Battered and bruised coming into 22 finals. Couldn’t kick straight last year against the pies or Carlton. As a fan you just go with the flow. Constant sh*tting on the team just marks you out as an abusive fan. We’re not winning a flag this year. A spot from 6-8 is what we’re playing for I reckon. Hopefully win a final and at least get that monkey off our backs. Adjust your expectations and you’ll enjoy it more. Focus on the development of the promising youngsters we have. Let the club do their review at the end of the year and change up the coaching team as needed. In the meantime, get along to the games if you can and just support the team.14 points

If Clarry doesn't play then Viney gets the tag and doesn't play well and then we don't win. The tagging player doesn't just disappear because Oliver is the sub. I'm as frustrated as anyone about Olivers form this year, but he is still streets ahead of anyone at Casey. Engage the brain before posting.14 points

Many Demonland posters are too negative and should drink some concrete and harden up.13 points

So you would prefer that our captain, whilst still on the field, criticises his teammate, who we all know is trying hard to clean his life up and come back from a poor pre-season, because he couldn’t shake a tag? Yet every chance you get you complain about our club’s culture being broken? [censored] me.13 points

I met a mate and his young son after the game and walked into town with them. The young fella, decked out in his signed Steve May jumper, was [censored] a hoop. Loving life, kicking his footy, talking about the game and loving his team. Wise beyond his years, he knows you celebrate and enjoy the wins when they come.12 points

The good things. 1. Rivers in the middle playing great. 2. Tholstrup showing he has what it takes. 3. Judd McVee in the last quarter was silky smooth. Fantastic. 4. Young kids getting game time. The bad things. 1. The brain dead supporters in here bagging the [censored] out of the players. Seriously, you guys are [censored] thick. (Not all of you, just the loud dumb ones) Petracca gets injured. Everyone with half a brain knows that Oliver is getting the hard tag for the rest of the year. Drop Clarry? Drop him? Seriously? Who are you bringing in? Laurie? We are already playing just about everyone we drafted last year. Do you even engage your brains before posting? We aren't a premiership team anymore. Adjust your expectations. It's a year of change. The old game plan doesn't stack up.12 points

The AFL appears to have admitted on their site the Windsor 50 was an error and will this week admit this one too. They will not admit the Sheezel htb, the Kozzie put down well after he kicked it, the Petty non mark, the Tom Mac front on spoil, the Clarry drag down and scrags at the stoppages, several other non htb calls to us and several soft ones to them, giving them half their score from frees or 50's. At one stage it was 9-4 frees to them in the last quarter and 3 of our 4 were marks we had already taken and an OOB on the full, essentially 9-1. My barometer for umpiring is Mrs. Redleg, who unlike me hardly even notices them and she was screaming out "they are blatantly cheating and trying to get the Roos a win because of last week." On a positive note, to have won with nothing from Fritta, and Clarry and playing against 4 extra players was good. BTW are our coaching panel watching the game, where was the extra defender in the last few minutes?11 points

Please be honest with me WCW, I can take any criticism. I have said before that I consider myself a bit cynical and negative, and I can be perceived as "bagging" the club. If anything I bag the coach because, in all honesty, I lost any faith in him and I am far from the only one here on DL or in the social media. I applaud your fortitude to maintain a positive spin on things even during the dark days, but I think everyone lives and feels the sport in different ways. I care for this club to maximise what it has in terms of talent and potential, feels very frustrating the way they have performed in the last 5 weeks. I only ask to not be disingenuous as I don't keep talking about the coach every day and in every topic, I only do it when the topic is being discussed. I just spent two weeks overseas and pretty much I did not engage at all in DL. I only try to voice my preference for the club to be brave and make some real changes for next season, I know I am being silly because guarantee you no-one from the club reads DL and if they do, they won't listen to ED14 and his uneducated takes. I will be back to the G next year, despite some people asking me to abandon the club. I believe this club deserves best, as I have come to know the history and the significance for the sport that this ancient club has. The only thing I can do as an individual is to go to the G and pay my membership to provide some economic and passionate support, small as it can be. 🔴🔵 Always, ElDiablo.11 points

I hate gatekeeping supporters. As a remote supporter, nothing annoys me more than supporters who claim superiority because they’re in the privileged position to go games when others can’t. But if the only reason for a supporter’s non-attendance is “to send a message”, that support sucks. A lot.11 points

I find it incredible that legitimate football commentators and media personalities are more upset with Steven May for pretending to be hit in the head than they are at Brayden Maynard for actually hitting a guy in the head resulting in a premature end to his career.10 points

IMO, AMW needed to improve his decision making and skill execution coming out of the back 50 while a VFL report mentioned he's working on the defensive side of his game. I thought he was much improved in all aspects and looked far more calm and measured. Might need to plug away for a few more weeks but if Bowey continues to struggle I wouldn't be upset to see him get a crack at seniors. Jefferson has a lot of tools to work with and will get games next year. His marking is a weapon but he can follow up at ground level which is important for a key tall these days. Was disappointed in all of McAdam, Sestan, Woewodin and Billings though in Woewodins defence he may have spent time off in the second half and I missed parts of the 3rd quarter. Laurie does some excellent things then let's himself down with some dumb footy like free kicks against or poor kicking, he's better than that but he won't crack into the senior team on that form. Particularly with Tholstrup making a good fist of his second game. Kentfield just finding his feet and will reserve judgement for a few more weeks.10 points

Oliver isn’t fit. He doesn’t have the power to break away like he used to. Why do so many people refuse to use context when analysing players and our team. He’s a freak footballer who’s underdone. Next season he will be fine. Leave him be.9 points

After last night game I have decided that we will not make the GF and we may sneak into 7/8th place. Too many injuries and out of form players. So I am just enjoying each win that happens. I am not thinking about next week until at least Wednesday. Enjoying a win end of story. PS my god there are some dreadful doom sayers on here.9 points

positives: youth, particularly McVee and Rivers last night negatives: thought it was poor that we closed up shop so early other things: Viney, Gawn and May....what a joy having these guys in Red and Blue. That tackle by Brown. Watching ANB suck air in the last and realising how hard they're working. Three last things: I think we're in transition and I've finally accepted it. Still rueing last year as the one that got away, I'm not sure you ever lose that feeling. This competition is going to be scary even next year.9 points

We have a real problem with Bowey IMO. Having finally pushed Rivers into the middle, we need Bowey’s foot skills in the backline but he’s just right off at the moment at the contest so he’s struggling to get involved. 13 touches, no tackles. We need a lot more from him in the new, Riv is a mid, world. I’m confident Chandler keeps getting games due to his defensive pressure. 8 tackles last night and I’d guess a decent pressure rating too. Same reason I think Windsor’s safe, he had 6 tackles and just keeps on presenting. Sadly, Fritsch is another out of form player who, unlike these two, doesn’t have work rate or defensive effort to fall back on.9 points

I will pay membership, you can see my posts from previous years. I am not, at least not in my personal opinion, a guy with only negative opinions. You are correct the way things are going this year are not bringing me much joy, that doesn't mean I will just jump ship and abandon the club. I only provide my comments on what I think is wrong with the club and what can be done to fix it, it hurts to see a premiership list being wasted, again that's my opinion many may or may not agree.9 points

I thought Petty showed promise of a return to form tonight. Also,he has a bit of nastiness about him that few of our players have. He gets on the nerves of the opposition, and I like that.9 points

We will end this round just 1 game and 7% outside the top 4, and just percentage behind 3-4 other sides, with 9 games to play. It’s a pretty decent platform to work with if we can find it within us to right the ship.9 points

Deserves its own thread but a massive [censored] you to the disgracefully large contingent of you so-called Melbourne “supporters” who choose not to go to games to “protest” or some other [censored]. Not for a second having a go at those who can’t go for financial or personal reasons. Almost none of us can get to every game. But if you stayed home because you’re fed up with Goodwin or you think our season’s shot or you want to “send a message” to Roffey or Pert, or you think we’re boring or whatever, [censored] you. Don’t sit at home and complain that we can’t attract talent in the trade period - who wants to play in a half empty MCG when North’s 10,000 fans are more vocal than ours? Don’t complain about our players looking devoid of confidence when they don’t get the sort of lift from the crowd that most other clubs get. If you’re able to go, and you don’t, get stuffed.9 points

Highlight for me was seeing Ooze grinning ear to ear in the crowd next to Brown Snr as I knew it would trigger some tiggers and the Richmond BF board didn’t disappoint: ”Poor look our coach publicly supporting his old side. Should concentrate on winning a game first.” “It's not a good look being the face of one footy club and outright barracking for another. Fair enough I know blokes have their allegiances and attend reunions but celebrating a 3 point win for your old side against bottom of the ladder just smacks of not having the right priorities given where he's at and the season Richmond is having.” ”Why was ooze at the G tonight cheering on his old team? ” “He’s no Hardwick yet , should concentrate on being a better coach.” “Sack immediately. Bloody disgrace.” “I've never liked him and wasn't happy with his appointment tbh.”9 points

Agree 100%. He deserved the fine, just as much as at least 6 others this year that were ignored. Another first for the Dees, the first staging fine this year and maybe for a couple of years.. I love the pile on from the media once again, about how disgusting this act was. Really, disgusting? I will tell you what was disgusting, the media defending a thug who ended a player’s career. That was truly disgusting, trying to even blame the victim.8 points

This where the AFL has the umpiring all wrong. The 50 against Windsor (that had changed to not be a 50 over the last off season) was exactly the same as one that wasn’t paid when Tom MacDonald had a mark 40 metres out from Norths goal 3 minutes later. Afterwards the Melbourne defence went ballistic at the umpire about only paying it one way. Umpire 1. was clearly describing that the faked move handball is no longer a 50. WHICH BEGS THE QUESTION WHY DIDN’T HE STEP IN AND OVERRULE A CLEAR MISTAKE BY HIS PEER? He acknowledged to the players minutes later, so he knew it was wrong. This is why fans are so frustrated.8 points

I stayed. I sang. I enjoyed the 3 point win against Norf. It was tremendously relieving. I sang the song loud. I hoisted my scarf above my head when doing so. As loud as I could, I yelled "whadda we sing" and also "woo hoo" with gusto when "The Grand Old Flag" was blasted over the loudspeakers. Norf. A bogey team of ours for so many years. Not any more. But they almost beat us tonight! Didn't they beat us 17 times in a row? Now we've beaten them 6 or 7 times in a row? Come on Dees! Each week is a new opportunity. We're gonna give the Lions Hell! Honestly mate, get a grip. The fact that Oliver is even playing tells you the culture is broken. If you watched him tonight - really watched him, he behaved like a petulant little kid. I don't care that he can't shake a tag. North were a man down simply because Clarry is who he is. But there was a centre bounce in the 3rd where Claz genuinely ignored the entire contest just to beeline someone and take them out. Imagine one of your three centre bounce mids not even watching the game. His head was NOWHERE NEAR the game, his team or his role. Nowhere near it. He shouldn't be playing - it's not serving the team and more importantly, it's not serving him. I don't expect Max to publicly criticise him, and nowhere in my comment did I say that he should have, and you shouldn't put words in my mouth. There were a million different ways he could have responded, and while criticism wasn't the way, neither was needless praise. It doesn't help Clarry and it doesn't help the team. There was nothing selfless about what Clarry did tonight, and Max is blowing smoke up your [censored] and taking everyone for fools in suggesting it was. We all love his humour - but he uses his charm to BS us all too. But go on - laud them all and everything they do while throwing it back on the supporters for apparently being weak as [censored] and not showing up. What's weak as [censored] is continuing to play a guy focused on anything other than football while telling everyone you run a high performance environment with the best culture seen in 30 years. What's weak as [censored] is lying to your supporters and walking past standards you say you don't accept.8 points

There’s no good explanation for it. If our fitness program has us unable to run out a game in Round 15 off the bye against a side on a six day break, then it’s not a good program.8 points

Entire club is scared. The players are scared of contact, scared of going when it's their turn, scared of getting in someone's way and scared of making a mistake. Coaches are scared of making difficult calls, scared of admitting how bad we are, and scared of Goodwin. Pert and Roffey are scared of being wrong. They will go down with the ship. We are barely recognisable. We have no cohesion, no hunger, no intensity and no desire. They are zapped of all confidence, not playing for the coach and definitely not playing for each other. I was embarrassed by Clarry's behaviour all night and more embarrassed that the club keeps rewarding his performances and behaviour. Standards are an absolute mess and you can see and feel it at the ground that the culture, spirit, connection whatever you want to call it is broken.8 points

Did you watch that last quarter? That definitely wasn’t the worst possible result.8 points

We were diabolical but the umpires had them in a multi for sure. That Petty "mark" on the outer wing with a couple of minutes to go, how that wasnt paid is beyond comprehension.7 points

I apologize personally for my non attendance. First and last home game I will miss this year. But I’m not gonna lie, my holiday was way better than that game was #noregrets7 points

I am gobsmacked by that. Scoreless in the last quarter. Holding the ball whenever we had it on the wing and letting them flood. We have zero confidence. Zero synergy. No structure. We are poorly coached and playing like huge plodders. We are bottom 4 the way we are playing.7 points
