  1. Great watch! Forward craft, contested marking and a lethal finisher. Not a lot of goals coming from free kicks either. He works hard for his opportunities.

  2. I want to see Kozzie hang onto a hanger. He’s been up plenty of times, but never dragged one down.

  3. Fwiw Byron Pickett's son Bryon Pickett jnr (Kozzie's cousin) has just moved down to Melbourne this week and I believe will be living with Kozzie and Trent Burgoyne.

  4. Look I tend to disagree that Goody "writes players off". We have to remember that we have over 40 players eligible to play senior footy and a good balanced group of players vie for a position in the best 22. That is the way a great Team wins through competitive spots. Thommo by all accounts is a great Club man and gets involved in the Club culture. Teams do not do well culturally from within if players and Coaches clash on a "write players off " mentality. The Team is bigger than the individual.

  5. Not a bad suggestion Dazzle at all. Now something else of interest. Spoke to a bloke ( Outside the Fence at Casey last training session) and he was checking out this venue and he said his son is playing at Casey this year, but didn't provide his name. He is ( was) a Bulldogs supporter and has been to training this year and he stated very emphatically that DEES TRAINING INTENSITY AND FITNESS WAS THAT FAR AHEAD OF DISHLICKERS IT WASN'T FUNNY!. Interesting !!!!🤩

  6. Worth a listen. (63min. Jan 26). Perfect off season fare for the tragics. ie us. Some fluff with footy. LMAO with Tommy's Brayshaw brothers Christmas training observation. https://share.podcastguru.io/ZX7fsEbVrDdYb2mJ8 May have to enter "Tossers" in search bar in the link. It's S2 Ep 3.

  7. Melbourne has expressed interest in building its new training base at Caulfield Racecourse as part of its long-held plan to bring the club under one roof. News Corp can reveal the Demons have held talks about shifting their headquarters — including a training oval and gym facilities — to the racecourse as part of plans to redevelop the site. But the move remains a longshot as it would require significant state government funding to create a community and elite sporting hub tipped to cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Discussions have centred on training ovals being constructed in the middle of the racecourse and linked by an underground tunnel to buildings outside the track. The site would be an ideal solution for the Demons as Caulfield Racecourse is only 12km and roughly a 20-minute drive from the MCG. Importantly there is a significant amount of public land available to develop in conjunction with the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Trust in the heart of the eastern suburbs. But the Demons also remain engaged in talks with the AFL and the Melbourne Olympic Parks Trust about redeveloping the area adjoining AAMI Park. Car Parks E and F could be used to build a multi-story complex which would give the Demons more room for their own facilities which they currently share with Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Victory. The Demons have labelled their training facilities the worst in the AFL amid a string of setbacks surrounding plans to build a new inner-city home. It has been a frustration for the club which is currently split between the MCG (administration), AAMI Park (football department), Gosch’s Paddock and Casey Fields. The training base headache will be one of the top items on the agenda at the club’s annual general meeting on Monday, February 20 when president Kate Roffey and chief executive Gary Pert update members.

  10. Yes, I recall seeing Chris Scott interviewed prior to finals where he said - everything had been planned to the minute so the players were fresh for the finals. I think we could have planned a lot better for finals rather than limping to the line.
    4 points
  11. To avoid the pitfalls of limping into the finals, with this list, surely the club will be rotating tired players out of the team in the second half of the season. Cherry Ripe we must be in September.

  12. Thanks @Deemist, that's a cracker of an interview/podcast. Probably the best one I've listened to in a while. Maxy take the [censored] out of T Mac at times and has a tongue in cheek go that he's a [censored] bloke, but I think the opposite is actually true and that Max actually really rates T Mac. He's just such a down to earth country bloke at heart. Loved the numerous intelegent insights into life as a AFL footballer, the days after the 2021 GF etc. Particularly thought his take on the stand the mark, the 666 rule changes and ANB / Spargo roles and running were great. Stuff about Mark Neeld was also pretty interesting. All of this has probably been said/rumoured before, but if you want all this crammed into one 60min interview by someone who can accurately and articulatly explain it all, then this podcast is well worth the listen.

  15. Flag, obviously, but the thing that I want to see because I believe it's the best predictor ... I want us to be number 1 in the comp for forward 50 tackles again. We dominated that stat in 2021 (from memory, ANB and Kozzie were #1 and #2 in the league) and completely dropped away in 2022. Bring that pressure again, turn the ball over higher up, force oppo quick kicks to Lever/Gawn/etc., and we're well on the way to Cup #14.

  16. Yes, the titles have changed a lot over the years. When I was a kid growing up in the 60s, these were the positions on the field: B: Former rover who has lost a yard Loneliest man in the world Rock of Gibraltar H/B: Enforcer Key Defender Jack-of-all-trades C: Real goer Pivot Racehorse H/F: Avenue to goal The hardest position Will-o'-the-wisp F: Resting ruckman Spearhead Goalsneak R: One kick behind the play Prime mover Borer into the bottom of packs. 19th: Utility 20th: Big-hearted trier. A host of exciting young prospects, natural left-footers, honest battlers, bean-poles, big occasion players, nippy small men and club stalwarts who have all been knocking on the door have just missed selection and will be running around in the early game. ============================================================================ Things started to change back in the 1980s and a new terminology came into being. Teams now looked like this: B: Tagger Stopper Sweeper H/B: Rebounder Negator Springboard C: Breakaway Instigator Linkman H/F: Runner Tall option Receiver F: Crumber Converter Finisher R: Tall On-baller Small I/C: Overlapper Tag breaker =========================================================================== As of 2023, we now have three backs, three forwards, twelve rotating mids and five on the bench.

  17. I like it A lot. Was there today for the first day of the new monthly craft markets in be middle of the track (wife has an earring business side hustle and goes to various markets). It's a cracker venue. Easy to access. Heaps of room. Heaps of current facilities for social functions - that are really underutilised. Not in the MCG precinct but close enough to it for the average SE suburb Demon supporter

  18. You can’t have a high grandstand, if it’s in the way of seeing the back of the track. Caulfield racecourse has massive amounts of area inside the track and outside the track in the old stabling areas. You could have a low rise grandstand that goes around one side of an oval, with facilities underneath for example, that would not hinder viewing of the track from the racecourse grandstands and/or plenty of room to build in the outside of the track, in the old stables areas. Get it done Dees.

  19. In my mind the optimal centre bounce mix looks something around the lines of this, in order of midfield minutes: 1. Oliver - The best mid (player) in the comp, should be in the middle every second he's on the field. 2. Viney - Will continue to be a midfield mainstay but would give him a slight haircut in his midfield minutes to allow someone like Pickett with a touch more speed to be thrown into the mix. Viney is capable as a pressure forward in short stints. 3. Petracca - The third horseman of the apocalypse, again will have stints up forward to allow for the guys below to run through. 4. Brayshaw - Would rotate him between half back & midfield, not sure about the % split but the Oliver, Trac, Viney combination do too much of the heavy lifting and we need someone like Brayshaw who is a strong accumulator to take the load off. Would utilise him similarly to how the Pies use Crisp. 5. Pickett - Want/expect to see him utilised more, but don't expect him to be getting large midfield minutes or we'd be taking one of our best forwards away from goal too much. 6. Harmes - The forgotten man. Would have him play his natural tagging game every once in a while against sides who have a clear best midfielder who does the bulk of the heavy lifting (think pre Dunkley Brisbane Lions). Otherwise he's a capable backup for when one of the big dogs is on the bench. I don't see room for Jordon or Sparrow in the inside midfield mix barring injuries - should they be serious about giving Pickett more midfield time that is. Expecting Jordon to be a utility sort who pinch hits everywhere, with Sparrow predominantly playing up forward as usual....assuming they both play. Wings are easy as Langdon & Hunter will be the first choice options. Would love to see Howes at some stage too given he looks like he has a fair bit of X-Factor. Contrary to popular opinion I'd have Jordon over Gus on a wing should injury strike. Would love to see Bowey on a wing too to add a bit more class but a touch too leftfield for Simon I'd suggest.

  20. I had heard rumours of this. The big question is whether it would be large enough to host AFLW games. Probably on non race days (or nights). That would be a game changer if it did. You could have the bare minimum in terms of fan facilities around the oval supplemented by the grandstand infrastructure. Otherwise if it's purely a training facility it still ticks the boxes as it's in the heartland and is a blank canvas for an oval or two and club facilities. That said, pretty sure the Swans tried to line up Randwick before getting their new facilities next to the SCG. So we could just be working on the same game plan.

  22. I commenced the Brayshaw Bros Xmas day 100x100 Classic at brother in law’s getaway farm Christmas last. Slight uphill (4%), gravel, HOT. About 30 in wifey (Collingwood , be kind), came up for a status check and to convey some feelings which indicated a less than celebratory disposition toward my newfound Christmas Day tradition. I had to agree and confirmed I would shift it to Xmas eve or Boxing Day given it would consume nearly 2 hours with a 100m return walk shuttle . YMMV with back to back flat country sprints

  24. 7 players over 200cm, 5 over 195 and 6 over 190 (incudes Kye Turner). Nearly half the list. Is it the tallest team we've had? Includes 6 of the 8 we drafted.

  25. Fritta is all class and poise!! Just had a look his goal assists stats in 2022 and he is up there with the league bests. Does not get the recognition he deserves. I know we all love him on here, but is he underrated within the old faithful too?? All this talk of forward line woes yet we have two of the best in Kosi and Fritta.

  26. I actually think the evidence is there to see. His refusal to give some players a go last year was so disappointing especially as we had some players injured and others tired and past best. Must not happen again this year we must use our full list and keep players on edge fighting for positions.

  33. Really don’t see Tomlinson (and probably Turner) as anything other than excellent depth for the backline if we lose Petty or May or Lever. I am not as sold on TMac as some others seem to be (hope I’m wrong and yes I know “structure, covers territory, etc”) Doesn’t seem that long ago he was the subject of regular derision. Would really like to see Schache (no. 2 pick and over 200cm) and of course JVR given opportunities, they are more where our future forward talls lie. BBB is a great forward but realistically, like TMac coming to the end of his career. One things for sure…Casey’s in for another top year.

  45. The whirlwind that was 2021 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️ meant that we finished the season as late as possible and in order to ‘catch up’ on pre-season fitness for 2022, most of the players kept up their training over the off-season. Throw in the premiership celebrations going well into December, there was very little down time for the group mentally. Then to show the comp respect as reigning premier, we started 10-0. This is the first genuine time that the boys have given themselves the necessary mental refresh that they need before another serious shot at a flag. It’s the mental exhaustion that trips up most teams gunning for a flag, as the long season allows fears and doubts to creep in. 2021 we were just so maniacally determined to break through, it’s like we had tunnel vision. varying factors of course will come in to play, but I give us a better chance this year mentally compared to last.
