  3. I can sort of half see why some may have the [censored] with Ed and his comment. Me personally? I [censored] love it. It's pure honesty, and adds more theatre to the game. In this day and age where characters of the game have unfortunately died out and players are now trained up to be more like robots with stock standard cliché's, it's so refreshing to hear a player's perspective on what he genuinely thinks of a teams recent performance. And yes, I'd be saying the exact saying thing if it was a Collingwood player doing the same thing to us. If Collingwood need a few words to spark them up then that says more about them. I can tell you one thing, if we lose tomorrow night, it certainly won't be because of a few words thrown out by Langdon. More of this in our game I say.

  4. Last out on the track, was Tracc, Kossi and Melky, oh, and of course Viney who was playing with his doggy. After the warm up they kicked to the 4 points of the square, where the groups gathered, with run throughs and some handballs. Split into their lines, they then moved a kaos ball from defense to the forwards, and finished with a goal. All at about 3/4 pace and no opposition, apart from a coach getting in the way and bringing the ball to ground. They finished with individual goal kicking. They appeared nervous, though upbeat and focused. They look powerful. I think they are ready for them. Tomlinson trained with the back-line, Harmes with the mids, and Chandler with the forwards. Go Dees.

  6. They haven't introduced tenpo control to their game yet. I say yet, because I'm sure they will at some point. The other big difference to us is they rely on moving the ball quick and aggressively for their scoring. Langers is right - that represents a structural weakness in their method. Take it away and they will struggle to kick a winning score. But they are likely to keep trying to go fast, which means they are likely to turn it over heaps. That might be ok against orher teams, but we will prey on, and punish turnovers. Which is how we generate most of our scoring. The only way to take that away from us is not turn it over. And the only way of avoiding that, if we are on, is play safe don't take risks (eg take on the corridor) and go down the line. Which is what we want. Catch 22. We will smash them.

  18. I like Caro as a journo but I was surprised at this too. I thought the words about to come out of her mouth were going to be about Collingwood and the Do Better report. She believes very strongly in the tanking saga and how much of a blight it was on the game. Shes even said she thought it was worse than the Essendon supplements saga. There's no way in hell I can agree that playing players out of position is worse than pumping kids full of injections and damaging their careers but she's entitled to that view.

  23. Would I have preferred him to say nothing? For sure. However if the filth need motivation by looking into a loose comment that also compliments them then I'd be seriously concerned for their sake. If it's between this and one of their players abusing our skipper as he came off injured the last time we met, I know which one I prefer for fire lighting purposes.

  25. I can live with Caro repeatedly bringing it up, as long as she was doing it honestly. She could say something like, "in a widely practiced tactic in the AFL, known as tanking, which even my TIgers admitted to doing, the MFC was the only club punished by the AFL, for doing it". At least that would be truthful.

  26. Jack Watts was a far better player than Weid is and I think your comparison is pretty unfair to Jack and incorrect. Jack played in a worse team and was used all over the forward line, even playing a bit in defence and ending there with Port where he was going very well until injured. He was actually BOG against us playing off the half back line for Port. If we had Jack at Weid's age now, we would be far better off than we are and he would be absolute best 22. Nice mark and brilliant kick for goal and was mobile for his size. Have a look at the running goal winner against the Pies, could you see Weid doing that? 27. I think it will be pretty much 'steady as she goes' selection wise. BBB in for Weid ... Harmes med sub. ANB is out of form and was terrible v Freo, but he is important to the structure of the side. Same with Sparrow and Spargo. Hunt and Melksham have played their roles well. Rivers has been OK. Go Dees ... if we lose this one my whole weekend will be ruined.

  28. They did a good little analysis of Melksham’s role on 360. He is clearly playing his role of cutting off an interceptor and also providing an option inside F50.

  34. I was at the game. I know we didn’t have the best seats but I seriously didn’t see Weids having a crack. Maybe it was just our viewing. I will say that the one thing I criticised about Goodwin’s coaching last year was giving Weids games at the expense of Brown. Brown was really good when he played and Goody would still put Weid in at his expense. I just couldn’t understand it. Brown hasn’t had the best form lately, but he can still be counted on taking at least one good mark and kick a goal. Weiderman can’t. While Brown is far from his best I’d take Brown over him any day if the week. I just can’t comprehend people saying that Brown’s no better than Weids. Brown is way better and given his recent form that’s saying a hell of a lot

  35. Correct. Everyone did it, but she only goes after us and thereby says by inference, we were the only ones. The compere of the show, Eddie, even admitted his club had tanked and that everyone had done it. I heard him say it some years ago on a show. Libba, a Blues assistant coach at the time, dobbed in the Blues for tanking on TV. It was allegedly investigated by the AFL, then suddenly Libba sheepishly modified his story, obviously after being PERSUADED to. Terry Wallace also admitted that he did it at Caro's club the Tigers, which she will never , ever mention. I think there were a couple of others who admitted it was a practice in the game due, to the Priority Picks being available. I would give Caro more credit if she at least told the truth or was not selective with it and said Melbourne were the only team dealt with by the AFL for Tanking, but that it was in fact widely practiced in the competition. The media at the time would joke that Boards should be sacked if they didn't do it and take advantage of the PP's.

  39. Got to say DD, I have always thought these camps challenging masculinity and targeting physical and mental capacity/resilience, together with the so called team bonding aspect, complete and utter nonsense. I have been on a few and I can’t say that they benefited me in any way, shape or form. For many it’s no big deal and no damage is done but for others it can be very damaging. Part of the problem is that the people running these things are often not qualified or do not have sufficient expertise or experience to be dealing with the so called psychological issues that can come from confronting your fears and weaknesses. For god sake these are professional footballers with the same weaknesses and frailties that we all have. They are paid to play football and not be the subject of these “experiments” run by trainers who are here one day and gone the next.

  47. We’re all looking for the right mix up forward and our woes up there have been much talked about (again) this season. Came across an article today about certain stats. Here’s a bit about us. Pre-bye, the Demons were the hardest team to score against inside 50, but they ranked 13th for scoring from their own entries. Since the bye they rank fourth for scoring from their own forward 50 entries which is a crucial increase given their noticeable forward 50 woes

  48. A top 4, round 21 clash against the hated pies. Next week Carlton with hopefully 3 finals at G soon after. This is what we've been waiting years for. Consecutive big in August/September games to look forward with hopefully a flag to celebrate at the end of it. This is a great time to be alive. No excuses whatsoever for Melbourne based fans not getting along to G over this period
