  2. So I’m watching this with my husband who is a recent arrival to the Melbourne supporting club thanks largely to me refusing to marry him if he didn’t get serious about AFL and Melbourne… when that Geelong loss was shown and then that stat was mentioned, he turns to me and goes “how is it possible to be this bad?” He has no idea. Bloody bandwagoner!

  3. Fantastic docco! Hate him or love him that was a great performance by Garry Lyon. Well done to Mike Sheehan also who conducted the interviews. My spine tingled the whole way through to the end from the moment they started discussing the Grand Final onwards. I'm seriously so greedy and hungry for more finals success!

  4. How bloody awesome was that. As a 46 y.o rusted on Demon... the show was a recounting of my life. Was at western oval as a 12 y.o. in 87' and then at all the finals, there for 88, there through the yoyo 90s. The merger game. The 2000 run. The [censored] years and the guys who died way way too young. Was at Optus oval - took the 8 year old son - so glad he doesn't understand the [censored] we've had on our plate for so long. Enjoy the success now and fingers crossed for the year ahead

  5. I never like to see anyone else win the flag. I just have sides who I would prefer not to win.

  6. The images of the players coming off after the “merger game” against the Hawks, the jacket Balme had on…. Makes me miss me Dad, he had the full length jacket the same as Balme and a Dees tracksuit he would wear to games. We’d walk from Fitzroy to the G and stop off at pubs on the way, I was an embarrassed 18yr old and he couldn’t give two fks.

  7. Very kind of Clarry but, I think after last year he is the best player in the comp. Trac has the looks and media personality for the AFL to try and create a poster boy out of him which is fair enough. In saying that Trac does have amazing explosion, strength, goal kicking ability and he's unreal at evading traffic. I just think Clarry has something truly special about him. He has an ability to win the ball like I've never seen before, it's almost as if he's possessed. I think his awareness of what is around him and ability to not only win the ball but, distribute it to others is remarkable. Max also stated in an interview that Clarry's will to win was like nothing he's ever seen and it's intangibles like these which make it very hard to truly value Clarry's impact. Both greats of the game and aren't we lucky to have them both who I think could become the all time best midfield duo the game has ever seen (huge call I know). Hopefully a couple more flags/brownlows to be put in that conversation.

  8. Anyone laugh when Ben Brown said he wanted to stay at North but then they were happy to trade him. LOL Norf 🤪

  9. The confirmation of the Viney story from his first season, when he was 18, where he let some players know they were not giving it a real effort after being pumped in our first couple of games was amazing to hear. Jonesy and Jetts… sad face.

  10. What a doco and what crap times this club has been through. All that pain to finally get there. I only got to sit through it for 28 years, I couldn’t imagine 57 years of it. Dees fans are one of a kind. see you all round one!! lets goooooo!!!!

  11. Two of my mates are Dees members, a Liverpool lad and a Kiwi… they just can’t believe the shot we fans went through in those dark years. Seeing the family name let alone there names on the flag is so amazing.

  12. A bit harsh no defenders got an interview, especially as our defence won us the flag really. One of May, Lever, Sales should have been included

  13. If we never win another flag in my lifetime, my biggest regret on my deathbed will be that I couldn’t be there to experience that joy in person. I hope like hell we get to see it again live.

  16. I was hoping they’ll have more inside footage of like the addresses at half time or Gawn out on the field in the huddle at 3/4 time. It was a bit same same. Lucky I love watching us win flags. An easy watch. Would watch us win again. 10/10.

  19. I luv Trac, who gets comparisons with great players like Dusty and Danger. But I really luv Oli, who is so unique, I cannot think of one player he can be compared to, past or present. He is that “special”.

  21. That was great, I do wish Garry Lyon could stop worrying about being so biased at times and just came out and said that grand final was the most dominant quarter and half ever played in the history of the sport.

  22. That was awesome. Didn’t think I’d still feel emotional 6 months later but there you go. Flag unfurling will be a must see!

  23. *I’ve got something in my eye Great doco, it’s important to tell the history so it’s clear how much this means. Gawn’s legend is growing. He is the modern day charismatic selfless leader we needed. the talk of preseason feeling different and the players finally buying in has me so pumped for round 1

  32. I'm not sure I get the fascination of comparing Oliver and Petracca. They are trained for and play different roles so they display different attributes and excel in different abilities. They both have faults but they play roles that make the most of their respective strengths. If their roles were reversed how would they fare? Could Petracca excel at 'getting his own ball' and have an elite level of possessions etc. Could Oliver have the goal kicking record of Petracca. Is Oliver's field kicking better than Petracca's. etc We will never know so comparisons don't mean much and choosing one as better than the other seems to reinforce people's pre-conceptions rather than based on something tangible. And as for saying Petracca gets the PR gigs because of his looks and the way he speaks, well how superficial is that!! Oliver has his own qualities that are publicly endearing: an impish grin, is a bit of a larrikin, humble and a champion in his own right. So very easily lovable by not just Dees fans. And there is no reason why he couldn't work on his public speaking. I recall he was very articulate in his early BnF speeches so not sure what has happened to that talent. And tbh imv we have better looking and more articulate and coherent speakers than either of them. Maybe, just maybe Oliver doesn't want the limelight. Or maybe it is a contractual thing. Who knows. But assuming PR gigs are based on looks and speaking ability. WOW! As others have said it is a joy to have them both and I love them both for who they are and what they bring to our club.

  33. Nah Preliminary Final was much better than Round 23 Jeelong were never in it. Their GF Dream was obliterated Round 23 was fantastic but it was an empty Stadium…

  34. I get this but nah [censored] it - I want plenty more, not just one. I'm hungry and greedy for success, I want us to win so often and for so long that other clubs despise us out of envy and jealousy. I've been wanting that my whole life and now it's so close I can taste it. Keep 'em coming Demons until we take our rightful place at the top of the pile.

  35. Can't believe no mention whatsoever of Burgess or Taylor or Mahoney. And a one second reference of Peter Jackson. Those guys were pivotal in our rebuild and getting us to where we are today, in my opinion

  45. Unquestionably all teams in AFLW rely very heavily on their best 5 - 6 players, so Fremantle being without Bowers and Antonio x 2 had a massive impact on the competitiveness of their group. They are a much better team than that, and will be a very dangerous opponent with a bunch of players back in time for the finals. That said, this was clearly the best we have moved the football in the history of the competition and it was a joy to watch. The ability of smart players like Hanks to handpass to the advantage of a teammate running into space is incredible. The size and width of Optus Stadium suited us, and the lack of wind helped us immensely. Our skills look a million times better playing in good conditions and, as good as our record at Casey Fields is, you wonder whether it is holding us back overall. It has taken nine weeks but we finally have the right forward structure in place. We need to give Harris as much space as possible and try to prevent opposition teams from double and triple teaming her. If they are determined to push numbers back, we need to ensure that the likes of Pearce, Hore and Bannan are in dangerous positions and that we use them where possible. I also like Fitzsimon providing pressure at ground level, even if she doesn't get a lot of touches. Far better than Scott or Parry clogging up the forward 50 and not offering much of anything. If we can avoid injury and illness, the only possible change in coming weeks would be another tall defender to come in against certain teams. Otherwise I think we have our best team settled. One more quality performance against Carlton and we have a genuine chance of finishing on top and reaping the benefits that come from this.
