  1. I was born in the Chinese Year of The Rooster and my astrological sign is Taurus. You might think this is a c ock and bull story, but it's true.

  3. Gosch’s Paddock update. I guess the drainage & irrigation piping has been laid since my last inspection, now they have laid down a heap of sand and the surveyors were out this morning checking the levels. Seems like a heap of sand, so what’s next, a layer of soil or do we go straight to laying instant turf? Anyway things are certainly moving toward the May completion target date. Hanging out for training to return home. Casey is too far away for me and with the ground gates closed why would you bother to make the pilgrimage?

  4. Honestly, I thought we were done with all this tripe. It feels like before the gf, half the posts on this forum were complaining about or having a whack at Goody. Probably one coach in ten or one in twenty coaches a team to a grand final victory. Simon Goodwin is the one. Fifty seven years we waited for this, whatever contract terms he wants, if they don’t cripple the club, he should get. We just built an outstanding premiership team, they absolutely demolished everyone they faced in the finals and we could well be looking at a dynasty 🤞. You can’t build that over night or by snapping your fingers. You have to put it together piece by piece and develop those kids. You are going to lose games, your are going to backslide sometimes and have to relearn what you should have already learned. You have to build relationships and trust and a coaching panel that covers all the right areas. On top of that we were coming from an incredibly low base. To nitpick and complain about those development years, seeing what they built for us, is just the absolute height of ingaratitude. You could just delete this whole post and replace it with 2 words… thank you

  5. My calendar tells me it is the start of the Chinese New Year and is the year of the Tiger. Somebody please tell them it is the Year of the DEMON. Tiger has had his time.

  6. As far as I know, there's no link to Melbourne, but anyone brought up on the old VFA during the 70s would remember the flamboyant Fred Cook, Port Melbourne's full forward. Apparently passed away today aged 74. A great entertainer (in the days when there wasn't much entertainment in being a Melbourne supporter).

  7. I read Fred's book a couple of years ago and he pulls no punches about his amphetamine addiction nor the many other troubles and strife that dogged him after his footy career ended. He actually played for three seasons at Footscray (Bulldogs for the younger reader) mainly as a ruckman and defender before making his name as a goal-kicking sensation for Port Melbourne in the VFA. Rest in peace, Freddy.

  8. I played with Fred in the red'n'blue briefly, certainly a larger than life character, despite his later troubles was a great bloke to be around, certainly cared for all Borough people, supporters and players alike . Vale Fred

  10. Sorry mate, but this stance is heavily compromised. The problem is that the people crediting the assistants as the (somehow) only reason we won the flag are the same dropkicks who continuously potted the coach when we weren’t performing well in ‘19 and ‘20, saying that he was the only reason for the poor performances. This shows a clear confirmation bias, meaning that no what information is put in front of you, you will still find a way to hold the same opinion about Goodwin even if it is blatantly incorrect. So please, if you’re gonna criticise the coach when the team performs poorly, then at least show the decency to give credit to him when we’re performing well. Otherwise people just look so stupid.

  13. The footy cap does make it tricky. I’d imagine for that reason they’ll go a long deal rather than more money over less years. We’ve done that with all our senior players. But then it’s the pay out number that really matters. Clubs without good financial positions can only guarantee 6 month deals payouts at any time I believe. Goodwin’s manager probably wants it all guaranteed, I sure would! Not sure we can rely on the afl stepping in to employ him like they have with Clarkson and possibly Brad Scott too. Anyway, Goody should get a long term deal which really sets him up financially (if he isn’t already) and hopefully that means he can continue to be at his best. It’s one less thing to stress about in an unhealthily stressful job.

  14. So what you're saying is his 57th win was our first premiership in 57 years? Sign him up for life, anyone that can win a flag for the Dees, deserves to leave when he wants to.

  20. And Trac's increased acceleration off the mark. Seems to have added more speed to his legs.....possibly training with a fridge tied to his waist. From a standing start in the centre, he was explosive. May get caught in the long run but in that first 10 meters no chance.

  22. We all need the virus to keep evolving as other viruses do. Easier to catch but less deadly with each new variant. At some stage, it wont matter if any vaccines or previous exposure gives you any extra protection, as the virus that you catch wont be a big threat to anyone. If it doesn't happen that way, I do NOT want to catch this bicth again. It was horrible.

  23. Under Goody ( and remember he inherited a team on the rise since Roosy took over in 2017) other than 2019 with the injury, surgeries and the associated pre season fitness debacle we have not finished lower than 9th. our WINS 57 LOSSES 31 DRAWS 1 from 89 MATCHES which is approx 64% a very good ratio in anyone's language. ONE FLAG also one Prelim Final. His real record is MATCHES 111 WINS 62 LOSSES 48 DRAWS 1 ONE FLAG and ONE PRELIM FINAL. Approx 56% Which is still acceptable. Depending upon your own expectations with our list it shows that you need about 5/8 years to develop a proper sustainable successful list if you are coming from the Rock Bottom that was 2007/2013 at our Club. Yes Jason Taylor you have your footprint hand and mind all over our list since about 2014/5. Thank you to all the Coaches snd FD people over the period from 2014!!

  25. Cold hard logic based on post 2018 performances no doubt justifies the pessimism about Weid's prospects. I remain a bit more optimistic based on the fact he has already shown in games he has all the skill, physique and footy smarts to compete with the best. I maintain the hope that his problem remains above the shoulders. Most of his preseasons have been cruelled by injuries and it seems to be extremely hard to build a tank and therefore be competitive and confident if you've missed big chunks and are starting with a low base of confidence. I'm hoping with a full pre season we will see the best competitive beast version knocking down the door for best 22.

  26. I followed the Boroughs in the VFA as a kid and thought Fred Cook was a legend. Went to games just to see him play. Always expected something interesting to happen: a fight, a crowd interaction, a bag of goals or a bag of d**gs! Certainly lived life to the full, whatever you thought of him. Vale Fred Cook.

  27. Agree totally about his bloody awesome talent, but in the end, comparisons are not simple matters. Barassi was tough, relentless, without any supernatural skills, but always gave his heart and soul and was inspirational. Flower was all silky skill and courage and simple footy purity. Clarrie is mercurial, capable of any trick in the book. And, he's still perfecting his skills.

  29. Freddy Cook was a real old style Full Forward, my only query is was he only 74. He always seemed far older than myself when I was with Glen Huntly reserves. we would watch the VFA and the bears or sandy on a Sunday. so long ago, s hit I wasted a lot of time drinking myself sober. Different times back then.

Yep Fitzroy Bulldogs playing out of Western Oval was all done and dusted until the Doggies fans rallied and secured $1.1m via tin rattling and door knocking as well as a 3 year sponsorship from ICI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitzroy_Bulldogs A great podcast series on this by the guys who did The Greatest Season That Was 1993

  32. My only query on Goodwin is ' Is he the coach who can help us regain the mantle of the team which guards space the best in the league? In the horror years, that was the only thing us supporters could cling onto.

  39. For what it is worth. After 2018 we had an outrageous run of injuries and subsequent operations to many players that severely affected their pre seasons. After 2021 we now understand the value of a proper, full, injury free pre season so I am prepared to overlook 2019. In 2020 we had a great pre season but all that work was undone by the covid induced delays to the season so that our advantage was lost. Two games in Cairns with 5 days between hurt us but we finished the year in good style and were perhaps undone by the truncated season. Given our form at the end of the year, playing another 5 games might have got us into the finals and then who knows? This year 2022 is then the first real test for Goody. Sign him up (a premiership cup is worth it) but let us hold our fire until the end of the year.

  41. Brian Taylor isn't a clown, he's just someone who hasn't kept up with modern football. He played it long ago. The idea that Angus Brayshaw was going to miss a goal because he turned his back on the goalposts as he walked back is just pop psychology. And the game was not about to be over even if the Bulldogs had gone 25 points up. BT can't even read a TV screen in front of himself. When he said that Fritsch is the only player to kick 5 goals in a grand final in the 2000s, despite there being a list of five previous players staring him in the face, he is just embarrassing.
