  1. I don't normally pay attention to player interviews as they are ridden with boring cliches and straight bats. But Steven May has long been an exception to the rule and I'll always make sure to tune in when he's on. This is his best one yet IMO. https://player.whooshkaa.com/player/playlist/show/1919?visual=true&sharing=true&episode=889928 What a fantastic acquisition this guy has been, and arguably the most important piece of our premiership tilt.

  4. To be honest i hadn’t seen a hell of a lot of him at the Suns and wasn’t really keen on letting Jesse go. Around the time we traded for him a few posters stated getting May would be huge for us and I was hoping they were spot on with their comments since they’d seen a lot more of him. They were more than spot on, May has simply been brilliant the last two seasons.

  5. He must have a Jims mowing business and take care of the list managers yard for free. Has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he will be even a regular fill-in for us. Very surprising decision.

  8. I have to say I'm surprised. We know we want to play TMac, Brown and Jackson in the finals, but despite TMac being unavailable we're preparing for finals with a different looking forward line. I accept Weideman may not be in form, but structurally I would have thought we want to keep rolling with the two key forwards (without wet weather anyway) for as much of the season as possible. Of course, rewarding the players who went over to Perth and got the W last week isn't a bad outcome.

  9. Perspective is important. We've been relatively injury free this year, Thomo being the biggest loss. This hasn't always been the case in recent seasons. If we lost a few players before finals, Smith would certainly get a game or 2 He's not a world beater, but he offers excellent depth in a variety of positions. The Club has generally been good at drafting, recruiting and development since Goodwin took over. I trust their judgement.

  12. And isn’t the growth of them working brilliantly…. Wow. Which is subject to a thing we call evolution. Oddly enough, change happens, and human nature along with it. Any ideas that behaviour is fixed and uninfluencable (particularly for a species that has conscious self-awareness) serves the status quo perfectly of course, but it’s delusional.

  14. That they haven’t been ‘given’ a team already is kind of shameful. They are an Australian Football heartland whose grass roots have been allowed to whither. That commercial motivations have been put ahead of the game’s legacy is, for mine, unacceptable, and the AFL as an organisation is responsible. If the state itself can’t bankroll a team, then this multi-billion dollar behemoth should, simply out of a duty to the game’s future down there. That they’ve done so with GWS and GCS sets the all too obvious precedent, as do financial splashes like the multi millions spent on upgrading GMHBA. We have no game without we protect its roots, and Tassie footy is currently dying, year by year. I couldn’t care less whether it’s a relocation, or about spurious Hobart-Launceston divisions. The whole state would go nutty for their own team, and of course games would be shared between Launceston and Hobart. The AFL needs to be the game’s true benefactor that we want it to be, and get it done.

  15. The best thing is none of our good players are being linked to other clubs. What a change from 8 years ago when most free agents would leave Love to Roosy and PJ

  17. Everytime I watch a Richmond game I see a dirty Cotchin act, this one was an elbow in the back of a GWS players head after a tackle. Amazing that players like him and Selwood seem to escape criticism for their consistent dirty acts.

  18. Oh well, they've enjoyed a run that history will view very strongly. A team that won 3 flags and turned the league on its head in terms of re-defining defensive pressure. Well done to them. Now, if only West Coast could do us a favor and implode in a similar manner.

  21. The fact is that Tuck Frump acquiesced to the white supremacists, when asked to condemn them. Rather he chose to deflect to the perceived left wing movement known as Antifa. His reticence resulted in a female law enforcement officer being fatally wounded. The man is anathema to anything that approaches reasonableness. He became a parody of himself. His words and inaction caused this. Never forget, Black Lives Matter.

  23. I can't remember a time when this guy was able to get a real go injury free run. He is a bloke that can play mid size or tall forward or back. Just hope he can get 18months injury free to show us if he can play.

  26. I've been trying to avoid any more commenting on this thread, but Jesus H Christ(!!!), that comment takes the [censored] cake!! This whole discussion, at least up until your comment, has had absolutey nothing, zilch, nada, to do with "reprogramming"... it is about educating people. Do you seriously believe that educating racists that their behaviour is unacceptable, is more inhumane than the pain that they are inflicting directly upon their victims and as a result indirectly upon an entire race of people who have been struggling with this kind of treatment, for decade upon decade upon decade??? Either stop being an apologist for racist behaviour, or take a long walk off a short pier... please!

  31. I'd be all over GWS' Tom Green. He will explode soon and his inclusion would enable us to be less reliant on Clarry and give us more midfield depth.

  34. It's clearly just going to be 'whataboutism'. Don't engage. 'Macca' is just the next in line poster in this thread trying to deflect and minimize the experience of Indigenous people in this country because they either can't or won't comprehend how racism is about power and that's why it's not the same experience for everyone.

  37. IMO of the interchange bench, the final four would be Jackson, Hibbo, Jordon, Weiderman. Sparrow sub. I can picture a scenario where Weid doesn't come in, we could play a variation of Gawn/Jacko in the forward line more and make Melksham a link man. It could be a way to experiment should an in game situation arise where we lose Tommy to injury. But personally I feel like we are a structure team, and playing Weid gives us the chance to keep that structure. Interestingly Brown's mobility (while not fast) has actually been quite good, he's been getting up the ground quite well and even taking some very valuable marks on the wing. The option could be for him to play a bit more of the TMac role and Weid be the one pushing harder towards goal.

  39. Something has to fall out of the GWS tree this year. Signing Kelly to multi year $M contract along with Greene, Coniglio and Whitfield, means there is not much left on the table other than scraps.....something has to give.

  40. I look at my grandchildren with their little mates. Their smiles, as they embrace their friends of various races, creeds and colours, fills my heart with joy. Children's hearts - as has always been the case - are pure and unadulterated, until, as they grow, elders seek to poison their minds with things such as racism. We are not born racist, rather it becomes a manifest of perverted and misguided views, based on innate prejudice and bigotry.

  44. Quality journalism and commentary in footy has been sidelined, MR. The days of Greg Baum, Martin Flanagan, Rohan Connolly et al have been surpassed by clickbait AFL-sanctioned twaddle, which is precisely what feeds the MRO populist-driven inconsistency, not to mention a lack of scrutiny on the game’s even bigger failing - umpiring standards.

  45. Meanwhile Greene getting a week just tops off the shambles that is the MRO/Tribunal system. Dangerfield in the 2020 GF - not suspended Astbury in Round 1 - not suspended Daniher in Round 1 - not suspended Hawkins on May - not suspended Fritsch vs North - not suspended Shuey on Mills - not suspended Buddy Franklin - not suspended Greene - suspended for a week If your argument against Greene is "if you're going to raise your arm/elbow you suffer the consequences if you hit someone in the head", all of the above players should have received a week. Don't tell me "oh but some of those guys were fined". If you want evidence that fines don't operate as deterrent, look no further than Selwood, who has been fined three times already this year.

  46. True. Debuting early but not thrown to the wolves like draftees a decade ago; earning their spot rather than having it thrust upon them as the saviour. We’re now where we needed to be.

  47. We were right into him in 2019. Probably would have bid for him if Jackson wasn't there. JT was seeing them like beach balls that year, given the three we ended up picking and the interest in Georgiadis/Green. They are 5 of the very best players from the whole draft. I think one of the reasons we were so big on Green though was his tremendous character, and those sorts generally don't go chasing coin after two seasons. So I'd give us little chance of landing him. Would cost a decent draft pick that we don't have in stock too. One player I'd love to see us go after is Mitch Wallis. This guy is out of favour but tore us a new one at Metricon only 12 months ago, and was doing it to teams regularly up until this year. Would give us more firepower and a point of difference to BBB, TMac and Fritsch. Approaching 30 but this age demographic fits in with a sustained flag push and he wouldn't cost much.

  49. The thing that I hear a lot from people that (wilfully or not) don’t understand the impact racism can have on people, is things like ‘it’s just words’ or ‘their overreacting’ or ‘it’s just a joke’. I still see comments on social media or hear people that I work with that say these excuses. At times I’ve been called a ‘white maggot’ by indigenous people. This has absolutely no effect on me as it is just a name and just words. There’s no history of my whiteness being genocided because of being white, no history of my parents/grandparents being taken away from their families because they were white, refused jobs because of being white, being viewed suspiciously, enslaved because of being white, my culture and language being purposefully erased by the state because for being white etc. etc. etc. There is no inter-generational trauma I face because of my skin colour. The same is very different for indigenous people. For indigenous people, being called a racial slur is hundreds of years of trauma, vilification, genocide and being assumed to be ‘sub human’ which is solely based on skin colour/culture. It’s not a joke, it’s not just words, indigenous people aren’t being too ‘sensitive’, these slurs are bringing up all of that history of being thought of as sub-human which is massively alienating and hurtful. It is something white guys like me will, never, ever understand or actually be made to feel like this. It’s alien to us as in racial terms, we have always been ‘normal’ (I.e. white) Australians. Once you realise the weight of this, there is no possible way you could dismiss this as being anything other than an incredibly hurtful, cruel and hateful thing to do. In my younger days I was too scared to speak up about casual racist remarks. But now I think it’s the very least that I can do to not accept racism in any form. It’s not funny, they aren’t jokes and they aren’t ‘just words’.
